First and foremost, it is so important for me to get to know you and your musical interests (favorite songs, artists or bands). Once I know a little bit more about you and where your musical interests are, I help you build goals based on what you’d like to accomplish...that could be anything from “just wanting to learn something new and to have fun” to “playing my sister’s favorite song at her wedding in 3 months” or “to join an orchestra and make it my professional goal”. My style of teaching over the last 25 years incorporates technique, reading music, ear training, and improvisation. In addition to the violin, I teach viola, cello and piano/keyboard. The genres I love to teach are classical, rock, pop, jazz, film/tv music, and fiddle!

Cello has brought me all over the world! I've play in pit orchestras for musical theater and in classical chamber orchestras, recorded on folk records and electronic albums, performed in Indian music festivals and the Montreux Jazz festival! Lessons with me will be rooted in an understanding of the instrument that can be applied to any genre.

While I certainly place emphasis on technical work and mastery, I also want all students to feel comfortable in expressing their individual voice and interests. I believe that it is incredibly important to encourage students to explore a number of creative avenues within music. Therefore, I am very open to having students explore music outside the classical canon in addition to experimenting with improvisation and composition. An additional component of my teaching style is finding unique and interesting ways to keep students motivated and teaching them how to effectively practice and learn on their own.

Hello, my name is Bailey and I love teaching cello! I am a professional pianist and public school orchestra teacher. I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Fredonia School of Music. I am a certified K-12 music teacher in New York State. I have been giving private lessons for 10 years to a variety of learners ranging in age and skill level.
My students walk away each week feeling empowered and confident in their abilities. I am able to push you while making you feel excited about new challenges. I am able to assess what you need, and offer you meaningful feedback in small, digestible chunks. Along with all of this, I make lessons fun! I teach fourth and fifth graders at school, so I know how to have a good time while helping students make great strides. I make it a point to ensure that you enjoy playing your instrument.

My approach to teaching the cello incorporates mindfulness, body awareness, and deliberate practice, and I strongly believe in simplifying technique and practice methods, and leading you to your own discoveries rather than just telling you what to do. In order to reach your potential as a cellist, you need to train both the body and the mind. I am a strong believer in mental practice and being able to hear the sound you want before you play - however, this is only half the battle; you also want to set yourself up for success by training your body to feel comfortable and relaxed while still maintaining structure. I have studied with the top cello pedagogues in the world, including Hans Jensen, Richard Aaron, Ralph Kirshbaum, Desmond Hoebig, and Frans Helmerson to name a few. The methods I’ve learned and developed on my own can be taught from the very beginning of a cellist’s journey, and I can’t wait to share them with you!
