My teaching technique is learner-centered. I work with students to help them build a strong vocabulary of drum rudiments and have them apply their newly acquired drumming knowledge to the songs and genres that interest them most. I have found this to be ideal for those at the beginning and intermediate levels. For the advanced drummers out there, I may be able to assist with some minor application of technique or perhaps deviate from standard drumming practices to acquire a fuller awareness of the body's interaction with not only the drumsticks and drum set, but how to maintain total postural awareness.
For those interested in flamenco, I have a lifetime of experience with the rhythms of flamenco, am a professional cajón player, and study/perform flamenco guitar.

I have a background in fundamental rhythm, rather than teaching the student to simply play, I teach them to read and write their own rhythms and drum beats in a fun and hands-on manner using methods that music teachers around the country use in their classrooms. Furthermore, I have years of experience teaching children as young as 4 years old from their very first lesson. I’ve developed my own method for children to read drum music using simple and an easy to understand rhythmic language.

I’m a bilingual professional drummer/musician with a Masters degree in music. I have also been teaching drums for more than 18 years with students of all ages, from beginners to advanced drummers. I have also toured worldwide with many top artists like Becky G., Thalia, Oscar Hernandez, Lauren Jauregui, etc. Part of the things I think are important to learn as a drummer are: How to develop independence, hand/foot technique and speed, rudiments, theory, how to play different genres among other things.
About Fernanda

My music lessons are fun and educational. Students are busy and dealing with life. Music should not be another thing you "get through". Whether you're young and dealing with multiple subjects in school or you're an adult with a job and responsibilities, music should be the place to escape all of that. I want to teach you whatever you would like to learn and develop a curriculum based on your own wants.
Want to learn songs from your favorite bands? Great! Let's do that!
Want to prepare for college auditions to become a music major? I can help you with that!
Want to play music with your friends and be a part of a cool band? I've been there and done that, and can help you with that too.
Whatever your reason for playing music, whether its for fun or scholarships or auditions or whatever, music should be FUN! I want to help you with that.
There are materials like "Stick Control" and "Survival Guide for the Modern Drummer" but at the end of the day, I want to help you play music, ...

Michael has been a great teacher to my 5-year old. My son and I both came to him with no experience with drums/music education and Michael was able to teach my son in a way that was fun and kept the attention of a 5 year old, while still being able to grasp the concepts and foundations of music. As a parent, I admired his enthusiasm and excitement of my sonâs progression. He is very passionate about what he does and it is exemplified through his lessons. My son truly enjoys the lessons and even practices on his own throughout the week and this is definitely attributable to Michaelâs instruction style and passion for his craft. I would absolutely recommend Michael as a teacher."

My 9 year old Grandson has been taking lessons with Matthew for over a year. This is his very first experience with any drum lessons and because of Matthew's excellent teaching style, he has come so far!
I might add that my Grandson has Down Syndrome but that never stopped Matthew from being the Great Drum Instructor that he is complete with a rather relaxed, easy going but very professional teaching skill.
When my Grandson was at a MLB Game when presented with the spur-of-the-moment opportunity to play drums with some professionals, he had the confidence to just jump right in because of his experience with Matthew's drum lessons.
Thank you Matthew, we appreciate all you have done!"

tom is as good as a drummer as he is a teacher. i have only had a few lessons with tom and can now play to songs that i thought i would never be able to play to. Tom has both inspired me, and put in the right direction, for this i recommend tom to any body."
