With or without a bow, upright bass students that study with me can learn a variety of styles (classical, jazz, bluegrass, etc.). Lessons include focus on intonation, dexterity, and rhythmic independence with special attention to having a comfortable approach to the instrument. Students will always have tangible representations of their work through recordings and personalized musical guides.

I'm in my third year with Mike. I can't rave enough about him and his patient, excellent teaching style. This instrument is the first I've ever tried to learn, and at a late point in life. Mike has helped me make great progress. I enjoy every minute.

Mike was awesome. He really worked on my banjo to get it into tip top shape. Lots of adjustments were made. He really knows his stuff, even builds instruments. He explained what we would be working toward and gave me a little exercise to start on. I enjoyed my lesson with Mike. I liked Barney the Bulldog too!

Mike is a super musician himself, but he has met me at my true-beginning level. Mike has a way of making you feel very comfortable while imparting proper techniques and advice. He is very patient with my beginning fumbles, while challenging me to make some progress each week. I really recommend him as a teacher. In three weeks, I have three songs I am working on and four finger rolls, with advice on how to learn to be more smooth when chording. This pace was adjusted for myself, as he will adjust to your own current level. You get some funny stories too (always helps).

I have been playing Viola for 14 years at the age of only 23. My lessons include the fundamentals of the instrument as well as fun songs and activities to keep the lesson interesting. I have played in my high school top tiered select orchestra as well as our traveling school orchestra which gave me the opportunity to play in places such as Disney World, Boston, MA, and Baltimore, MD. I was also a member of the West Islip Symphony Orchestra in New York as their youngest musician ever and the Pima Community College Orchestra. My knowledge extends further than viola as a concert master in pit orchestra productions and student helper in the two additional orchestras my school offered as a violinist. I have a bachelor's in Law as well as a bachelor's in Italian from the University of Arizona.

About Amanda

Hi all! My name is Amanda. I am a recent University of Arizona graduate with a variety of experience as a musician. I have been in many orchestras including the Sachem High School East Symphony Orchestra (violist and student violinist teacher) (2010 - 2014), Sachem High School East select Chamber O

What's up! So bass lessons. What a concept. I know, it's not the most glamorous instrument but hear me out. Solid bass players are actually in pretty good demand these days. Even in Nashville of all places! Within the first month of moving to Nashville I was already working as a contract musician both playing shows and in the studio.
Why take lessons from me? Well, I have 13+ years of experience in live performance and have about 3+ years of experience not only teaching bass but leading and directing bands.
How do I teach? Instead of just throwing scales and theory at you, I'll teach songs you actually like and explain the theory behind them. That way you get to jam with your friends or play along with your Spotify playlist, but also apply what you know to actual live performance environments.
If that seems like a good fit for you, shoot me a message!

"Mikaela helped ramp my daughter from having no clarinet experience to being a fairly proficient player ready for the school band, in less than a school year. Mikaela is friendly, points out little things that help make big improvements in my daughter's playing, and keeps checking on the basics as well (embouchure, finger positioning, etc). Mikaela has been very flexible and has a good teaching manner and attitude which has made my daughter's clarinet learning experience a very positive one. We look forward to continuing to work with Mikaela!"

"Christina rocks!!!! She helped me find my voice. I'm an older (some could say senior 😀) student. I never had any formal training. In one lesson she had me singing 100 times better. Surprisingly, I'm getting even better as the lessons progress. I started out watching Videos online which helped me, but at some point you need a professional to hear your voice.
I am the cantor at church, so I am so thankful for Christina and her focused direction. I think the congregation is thankful for her as well 😀. Love you Christina and thanks for helping me find my voice."
