Senobia was knowledgeable and I appreciated her patience with my daughter as this was her first EVER vocal lesson. While my daughter was nervous, Senobia’s professional demeanor allowed my daughter to feel confident. She can’t wait for lesson 2.

I am classically trained as well as trained in Jazz and comp style by reading chord charts and popular song chord progressions. I particularly enjoy classical music, and have numerous awards through the Certificate of Merit Music Teachers Association (MTA) Program of Southern California. I have completed the entirety of the MTA program through their advanced level and have been invited to play at numerous honors recitals. I understand musical theory, chord progressions, the fundamentals of music history, solfege (singing while playing to train the ear to musical notes), and the various aspects of reading and playing music on the piano. I also enjoy playing other instruments such as the alto saxophone, flute, ukulele, and guitar.

My lessons will offer beginner and intermediate progression through music theory, classical piano playing, solfege, music history, duets, and extra musical content such as jazz and popular songs if the student is interested.

As a composer and performer, I always encourage players to understand the fundamentals of music…music theory. There are many misconceptions about music theory: it’s too hard, it’s no fun, no one needs it - all wrong! The principals of music are simple, fascinating, and incredibly useful. Whether you took music classes in college or are just getting started with your first instrument, I can help you change the way you look at music. At first, the language of music seems strange and unfamiliar. That’s because it is! But when you take it one step at a time – one foot in front of the other – the meaning behind all the chords and scales becomes clear.

The first thing to learn about music theory is that your ear already knows it. Theory simply describes and gives definition to what your ear already hears. It’s like studying a language. By studying how nouns and verbs work we have a more powerful command of our language. The same is true for music.

Online Music Theory Teacher

Music Theory is the study of the systems in music, typically examining the structure and patterns underneath all music, regardless of genre. These lessons include an assessment of the student's musical theory knowledge, including writing scales/chords/intervals, rhythmic study, writing figured bass, various music terminology, etc. These lessons are most valuable for the seasoned musicians (especially those that perform regularly), and those who are looking to go to the next level in their musicianship (i.e. starting university studies, wanting to explore a new musical genre, wanting to compose music, etc.), however a basic understanding of music theory is a necessity even from the very beginning of one's studies in any musical instrument. Music theory is such valuable knowledge to have and can greatly expand a musician’s horizons and confidence. I enjoy helping my students connect the dots and understand the system that governs music! I incorporate a variety of books and other ...

I've been teaching Music Theory for over three years. I treat these lessons much like a classroom setting in which I instruct the basic tenants of music theory in order to help students understand it in accordance with their instrument of choice (including voice). An introduction to orchestration and how their instrument functions within the orchestra will also be instructed. We will use classwork and homework to detail what is instructed as well as multimedia to aid in our learning!

If you're looking for your child to improve their music aptitude, you've come to the right place! Let's get started!

We got SUPER fortunate to come across Milton as a piano teacher for our son who is diagnosed with Moderate/Severe Autism. If you are considering a special needs piano teacher, you too, lucked out finding Mr. Milton.
He is incredibly patient and calm, but firm. He has a cool vibe about him that creates a “jam session” atmosphere instead of the traditional stiff ol’ lady kind of approach. He has been great with incorporating our home and school behavior program to ensure our son is successful. He is also adaptable in how he teaches to ensure he is reaching our son that is most effective to his learning style. But most importantly he was honest with us as we began this road into special needs piano lessons. We were not sure if our son was even teachable. He was open to trying a few lessons to see if there were some foundational strengths he could work with . Mr. Milton was very articulate about what strengths he saw in our son despite his impairments that allowed us to decide to continue with investing in lessons. He wasn’t just trying get another client and take our money. We love Mr. Milton, and even on our son’s worst days , he always love to see him too.

Understanding Music Theory Through Colors

Struggling to understand a music theory concept? Sometimes, all it takes is a tweak to the way material is taught for a student to really grasp it. Here, Pittsburgh voice teacher Jennifer V. reveals her unique ROYGBIV method...   Has your child ever come home in tears because they just couldn’t master a skill they learned in school? You listen, wipe their tears and tell them “Tomorrow is a new day,” and “I know you can do it!” But the next day he or she comes home upset about th …
