These are areas of language training in which I excel:

Clayton T.

Annandale, VA 22003

About Clayton

I grew up in the Northern Virginia area and have spent the last 15 years participating in some form of public speaking, whether through acting, directing, or delivering speeches. I have a B.S. in Theatre and Acting. I have delivered numerous speeches in front of crowds as small as one and as large as a few hundred. Currently I work in a position that requires public speaking to a crowd of at least 200 each week.

***Lesson Details*** I am fun and laid back in my style of teaching. I expect that the student will have pieces prepared or in mind for us to work on. Because public speaking can be troubling on its own, I try my best to provide an atmosphere where the student can feel comfortable.

I often will use very short clips of other speakers to provide ideas on both vocal and physical delivery. I do encourage the student to

practice what we cover on their own, and to come prepared each session.

I do not teach "mechanical" speaking. Some of the points we will work through will be annunciation, pausing, facial expression, volume, awkwardness, delivery, what to do with your hands, and most important, being comfortable. I have a good ear for fine tuning a vocal performance, and a few solutions to help out with difficult moments. My goal is to help you deliver unique, confident, even enjoyable speeches for any occasion: sermons, monologues, board room presentations, opening/closing statements, interviews, etc.

***Studio Equipment***
Computer, speakers for MP3 player, space to move (if needed).

***Specialties***
I specialize in speeches of short to moderate length (1-30 minutes). Monologues from plays/musicals will be approached differently. We will work on the vocal and physical element of your presentation, but I am happy to also assist in helping you develop your character within the monologue.

I am truly enjoying learning how to sew with Rosemary as my teacher. So far, I have seen a blouse and a skirt that I need to add finishing touches on. I am going to sign up for more lessons. I want to perfect the art of sewing.

It was a real pleasure to do a Month long bachata classes with Kimmy. It was a worthwhile time investment. Kimmy is very passionate about dancing and teaching. I am grateful for the new dance skills and confidence she helped me gain!

I'm not naturally coordinated in dancing much less for paired dancing, for that reason I was apprehensive and anxious about bachata dance lessons with kimmy. At the end of the first lesson I left feeling having learnt new moves and confident about using them. Kimmy is skilled and knowledgeable about teaching dance because the pace is not rushed, she provides appropriate cues and thoughtful commendations!

I highly recommend Kimmy! She is a great teacher; she was patient, understanding, and comes prepared. I completed my first dance sessions with Kimmy and came out with a better understanding of how to dance. She instills confidence with her teaching and cares that her student gets the most out of every class.

Bgcheck Background Checked

About Alexander

Hey there!

I moved to America from Russia over six years ago. I have lived in quite a few places and have seen quite a few things for my young age! Back in high school, I always loved the "nerdy" subjects and anything that was related to them. I even was a member of the high school robotics team where my friends and I have competed in the First Tech Challenge several years in a row and even won a couple of medals.

But I also was on my high school swim and water polo teams. In 2015 I participated in the Junior Olympics representing Rose Bowl Aquatic Center Water Polo Club located in Pasadena, CA. For those of you who don't know, water polo is a lot like a mix of soccer and drowning - always fun but can get intense very fast!

When I moved to Maryland with my family, I had to stop playing water polo because it was not so common he

re to have a high school team. I kept swimming and playing volleyball instead which really made my days more enjoyable and helped me find new friends in a new place.

I went to Montgomery College upon graduating from Walter Johnson High School and dedicated my first two years toward studying Psychology and Brain Sciences and later was accepted to UC Berkeley. I was so ready to go back to California but changed my mind last minute and transferred to the University of Maryland College Park instead where my interest in Psychology magically turned into a Mechanical Engineering major.

There were always a lot of things that interested me in life and this is not even a third of them - that is why there was so much fluctuation in my commitments. But whenever I cared about something, I gave it my 100% and I hope that I can inspire you to do the same!

My oldest son Leo who wants to study Aerospace Engineering when he goes to college will be a senior this year. Last year he took AP Physics 1 and struggled quite a lot in the first couple of months. Alex started coming to us over winter and by the end of the school year Leo could solve problems harder than the ones given on the practice AP test. This year he will be taking AP Physics C and I do not even think we need tutors anymore. Leo says Alex was much more patient than his school teacher and listened carefully to what Leo was confused about every time it happened.

Alex is super good at explaining why and how things worked using real world examples in a very engaging way. He's an instructor for whom tutoring is a genuine passion for the education of others. He patiently ensures that I thoroughly understand the subject matter and that I do not just memorize the content of the lesson for testing-related purposes (as I have in the past). His style of teaching assures that I meaningfully retain the information to ensure that it is applicable to my immediate education as well as real-world future endeavors. Going into my test tomorrow with confidence that I will get a 100%.

Mike K.

Washington, DC 20016

About Mike

I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Maryland, College Park. I received my Ph.D. in literature from the University of Arizona, my M.A. from George Mason University and my B.A. from James Madison University.

My students can expect to improve week to week in their writing, reading and critical thinking skills. Every student has a unique learning style; I teach students to discover their own best processes and apply fundamental techniques in order to produce their best work.

While I teach full time at the college level, I tutor students of all ages and experience levels. I have taught composition, literature, film and professional writing at the University of Arizona, James Madison University, Mary Washington University, Marymount University and now at the University of Maryland, College Park.

I am a passionate teacher and care dee

ply about writing, reading and critical thinking. I am pursuing private tutoring opportunities selflessly in order to improve the writing, reading and critical thinking skills of others, and selfishly in order to earn some supplemental income now that my wife and I have had our first child (Higher Ed institutions pay teachers less than you might think). So, I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better writer, reader and critical thinker.

"Mr. Colin is an excellent tutor! He is the first tutor of many from whose teaching my AP Chemistry grades improved drastically. He is very easy going and
also easy to talk to. If you don't understand something, he will try to explain it in as many ways possible; just make sure to stop and let him know that you didn't understand the concept. I am very satisfied with his teaching style and therefore plan to have more lessons with Mr. Colin in college chemistry classes. I would 100% recommend him to anyone!"

er his first few sessions with Colin his quiz and test scores in algebra came up. Not only that, but he even teaches his classmates the techniques he has learned with Colin. Very impressed with our son’s progress. Thank you Colin!"
