I teach beginner oboe. I can help students learn to read music, play with good tone and technique, learn fingerings, and play from a book or school band music.
I've been teaching private lessons for over 15 years. I was a high school music teacher & band director in the Philadelphia area for 7 years, and I now live in Miami, FL where I am working on a doctoral degree in conducting. I also work as a freelance musician. I'm looking forward to making music with you!
Your lesson specifics are up to you! If you know what you want to learn, I'll help get you there. If you don't know where to start, I can lead you through the fundamentals and help you set goals.
I like to keep things positive in music lessons. Music is, after all, for fun and enjoyment! I like to blend teaching technique and musicianship, while keeping things fun.
If you're a beginner, we'll get started with all the fundamentals you need to begin making music. If you've been playing for a while, I'll help you perfect
things you've been working on, expand your musical experience, and help you reach your fullest potential as a musician.
Online lessons are a wonderful option! I am flexible with scheduling and allow changes up to 24-hours before a scheduled lesson. My home studio has chairs, music stand, and areas for parents to sit in on lessons. Garage band is available for recording. Students need an instrument and books.
Tina has provided our daughter 11 year old daughter with outstanding lessons as a beginning trumpet player this past summer! Not only was our daughter able to skip beginning band and be placed into the more advance concert band with the 1st trumpets, she received an invite from her well known director of bands to participate in the school’s Big Band. Our daughter is quickly improving on her playing skills.
Tina will always be remembered as the primary influence behind her aspirations to play the trumpet the right way!

Rina transformed a septuagenarn with very little vocal experience into a much more confident and capable vocalist...in only five 1hr lessons. I plan to continue with Rina because learning with her is fun and although I have learned a lot I want to absorb more of what she is capable of teaching me.

We feel so lucky to find Ms. Rina to be my son’s Oboe teacher. She is so patient with my son to go through every basic skill. Every class went smoothly and efficiently. This is definitely a very good online instructor experience.

I am a hardworking and passionate individual who loves music and loves teaching. I want to share my passion and interest for music with as many students as I can so that they can find new and different ways to express themselves. I love seeing students accomplish more than they thought they were capable of ever doing, and it is what keeps me passionate about teaching.
Chloe.. was excellent! My daughter learned a lot in just 30 minutes. She’s excited about her next lesson.
August 7, 2018
My daughters anxiety was high the first day of highschool for band. The students were seasoned and Lauryn had not practiced in months. Chloe eased Lauryn’s nerves and gave her the confidence she needed in just the 1st lesson! She’s awesome!
I generally start a beginner student on the Rubank method. Once through the first book, I encourage the student to start learning how to make reeds. Once the student has developed a good embouchure, I like to provide the student reeds that I make so that we can work on breathe control, dynamics and articulation. Once through the second Rubank book, I then move the student into Barret.
I have been a private music instructor for over 20 years. I earned a B.A. in music (oboe performance) from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, and a M.A. and PhD in musicology from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
I enjoy working with children and teenagers. While my approach to teaching piano and oboe is classically based and my approach to violin instruction is Suzuki based, I adapt my method depending on the learning style of the student. My primary goals in teaching is to inspire the student and instill a love and passion for music.

Finally reading and basic music theory is the essential skill that separates men from minnows in the sense of making music consistent. The discipline necessary to do this is minimal but important. I trust that you will excel in my class because my methods are tried and true. If at the end of the first lesson you feel you will not progress on your mission with me I completely understand but do think that will be unlikely as I want to share with you my deepest thoughts on how this can be done and in return you will receive the best education possible.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to providing you with some great lessons!
I have been teaching oboe for 20 years and have had students of many nationalities. The lessons will have a variety of materials and can be custom-made to meet the student’s needs and goals. We would study scales, etudes, solos, chamber music and composition. Oboe techniques such as vibrato, special fingering, tonguing, musicality, and suggestions for reeds would also be a part of the lesson. If possible, I love to play duets or at least demonstrate concepts and ideas. If the students would like to play a particular style or music, they just need to let me know.
I have both a bachelor and masters in music. I have been very fortunate to have amazing teachers: John Mack (Cleveland Orchestra), Pam Pecha (Cleveland Orchestra), Louis Rosenblatt (Philadelphia Orchestra) and Adrian Gnam (Mercer University). Playing oboe has allowed me to play in many orchestras throughout the world and make friends with many different nationalities. Music is really the universal language. I have performed with the Guangzhou Baroque Orchestra, National Symphony of Abu Dhabi, Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Bruxelles Orchestra, Canton Symphony (USA) and played in quintets and trios in the US, China, Taiwan and Abu Dhabi. While most of my playing has been classical, I also play jazz whenever I could and one of friends nicknamed my playing, “J-Oboe.” While most of my students did not pursue music degrees, one of students was a

Mrs. Salminen is, without a doubt, the best oboe teacher my child has ever had. Her outstanding professionalism, in-depth knowledge, contagious passion, resourcefulness, immense dedication, and extraordinary ability to build caring relationships make her the perfect music instructor. Mrs. Salminen has helped my daughter improve her dexterity with the instrument immensely by always inspiring her with kind words of encouragement and by setting an excellent example. She has gone the extra mile in finding engaging pieces to keep Natalia motivated, aiding us in purchasing the finest oboe possible within our budget, and making great recommendations about reeds.
Mrs. Salminen is not only an excellent teacher but an extraordinary human being.

My name is Carlin, concertmaster of the Guangzhou Baroque Orchestra. I had the privilege to collaborate with Dianne, both in the orchestra and as soloists. Her beautiful tone, impeccable intonation, combined with warm and easy going personality, made her a very popular person in the orchestra.
