I enjoy keeping lessons fun and engaging, and putting a creative spin on each of the lessons I teach--anything that can encourage my students to put their own personality into our lessons as much as they express it on their instrument. I often incorporate games into lessons, and I tailor my approach according to how I get to know each student. I have over three years experience with teaching privately. I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds; this includes children ages 7 and up, adults, senior citizens, and children with special needs. I am originally from Skokie, IL, I received my bachelor's degree in trombone performance from Indiana University-Bloomington, and will begin my master's degree in trombone performance at Boston University. Outside of playing music I enjoy reading Cormac McCarthy novels, running, and watching "Stranger Things".

My daughter has expressed a love for music and singing from a very early age. As a parent, I thought she had a beautiful voice and that was confirmed by a good friend of mine who recommended me to Steven. I started Olivia with Steven when she was 9 years old. Through his instruction and guidance her voice has grown tremendously. She was awarded a major role as a 5th grader in her school play and then went on to be the lead as a 6th and 7th grader. She was the youngest student in the history of the school to earn a lead role.

Olivia also auditioned for the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Conservatory and was accepted for their August Intensive program. I have no doubt that it was Steven's teaching that helped her with her audition that gained her acceptance.

Olivia is now 12 and as a young person, needs to learn how to interpret a song so that she can perform it well. Steven takes the time to teach the MEANING of the words and explains the story that is trying to be told. This was very important for Olivia to learn.

I highly recommend working with Steven. He is a fabulous teacher with a lot of knowledge and insight.

Steve is a great teacher. Encouraging, enthusiastic and pushes you to your limits. I worked with him for several years. Have no hesitation recommending him for voice training and speech training.

Working with Steve has helped improve almost everything about my voice and performance. He challenges me in every way, including physical and emotional range, technique, language, health, etc. Steve is truly interested in encouraging students to be all-around excellent vocal musicians.

I teach Voice from the perspective of a modern musician and songwriter. I want to make sure you are relaxed and having fun in our lessons and pursuing the style of music that resonates with you. In voice lessons with me, I will help to coach you through techniques to improve your vocal tone, range and agility. We will learn about proper breath control, healthy vocal technique, and how to correct various vocal pitfalls that might be holding you back. We will do this through the application of vocal exercises and by working our way through the individual needs of our chosen songs. My lessons are driven by my students taste in music rather than my own, so we will always be singing the songs that you love!

About Loralee

Loralee began exploring music at a very young age, as part of a musical household. She enrolled in flute lessons at the age of 4, giving her solid roots in music theory and an appreciation for classical music. Her flute lessons later led her to take part in marching band and numerous musical ensemb

My son absolutely loved Loralee! He couldn’t stop telling us how kind and sweet (and beautiful ;-)) she is. She made him feel encouraged and smart. He couldn’t wait to get home and practice what he had learned. He is excited to go back.

It was only our first lesson together but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loralee made the experience relaxing and fun. More than just learning the notes, Loralee teaches you to express the emotion and passion in a song that comes out so beautifully in a guitar. Wonderful guitar teacher. 5 stars

"As a professional musician who plays gigs with Mike often .... he is a great, well-rounded percussionist/drummer .... let alone a well respected person to deal with, and will always do the job at hand right. Very personable .... easy to work with. Very knowledgeable on his instruments and music. Would highly recommend him as a teacher."

"My lessons with Ryan have been fantastic. I have been playing the keyboard for a few years casually, and we have been studying both music theory and piano in parallel, which I would recommend for anyone looking to learn theory or piano. On the keyboard, Ryan's expertise shines through in his approach to technique and awareness of the mechanical skills necessary to play musically. Most importantly, he always places emphasis on leading me where I want to go. When I've had an insane week at work and can't put the pressure of practice on myself, he has always been willing to help me relax through jamming while still teaching me important theory and application lessons. I also want to mention how friendly and approachable Ryan is. If, like me, you want an understanding instructor who knows his craft (we're working up to the nuances of jazz) inside and out, I couldn't recommend Ryan more."
