About Farobag
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

I've been playing a few instruments for 23 years, and finally decided to get into violin. Farobag made me realize that I know next to nothing about the violin, and there is so much to learn. I played only a few notes in my first lesson, but his instruction was worth every penny. I am very excited for the next lesson and look forward to learning everything I can from Farobag. Highly recommended.

Mr. Cooper is an experienced teacher. He teaches piano, violin & vocal from basic to advance level. My son has been taking piano classes from him for the past 3+ years. He loves to go to Mr. Cooper's classes. The foremost quality in Mr. Cooper is that he seeks perfection and tries to imbibe the same in his students. He encourages all his students to perform their best and is extremely patient in dealing with his students. Mr. Cooper lets me sit in my son's lessons and I got my 101 on classical music with these sessons. I can appreciate what my son plays and also now able to appreciate classical music in general.
Mr. Cooper encourages all his students to participate in IMA annual contests and puts a lot of effort in preparing his students for the same.

I am a pianist and singer who started learning to play the piano at age 6, and I love teaching all students of all experience levels. Growing up I competed and placed highly in many competitions including playing with the Symphony Orchestra in my home town of Spartanburg, SC after winning it's concerto competition at the age of 17. In college I took piano from Dr. Charles Fugo at the University of South Carolina and also started taking voice lessons from Tonya Currier and Walter Cuttino. While still in college I worked with The South Carolina Opera company for a season as a member of the ensemble and as Chorus Master.
Professionally, I have worked with different theater and opera companies as a lead actor and as a musician. I have also worked in many different church positions as a musician and singer.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have experience teaching since 1995 while I was still in college. I primarily use Alfred and "Faber & Faber" piano methods for beginners. I teach how to read music, understand the theory behind the music, and the technique needed in a patient atmosphere at the pace of the student. I also teach you how the piano works and the different types of pianos as well as the history of keyboards used for different classical music. The lessons are geared toward the goals of the student no matter what level is desired.
In teaching singing, I will teach you the basics necessary to create a healthy and relaxed sound through technique. With experience singing music ranging from classical to contemporary church music to musical theater, I can teach you how to use the voice in a way that will promote a long time of singing without adding stress to the voice. I will work with any style of music and will give you the technique and confidence needed to become a better singer.

In my home studio is a piano and books with big windows to look out. Pianos are an upright piano and an Alesis Synthesiser. Seating is available for parents as well.

I expect the student to have a piano or an electric keyboard at home for piano lessons. For voice lessons a keyboard is not required but is helpful.

Our first piano lesson with Tamara was really pleasant. She was very welcoming and attentive the whole time. I can tell my son was really enjoying the lesson. The details with the progress sheet and flash cards she provided was a plus for me. Her studio space also made the experience really great!

Since my birth, my life was influenced by music and my father's passion to sing. My sense of music started not with understanding of lyrics, but of melodies and rhythms. As matter of fact, the first language I learned was music!! How is this possible?! Well, because of my hearing disability, I did not speak fluently and very well until I was in 9th Grade!! But with God's grace, I understood the language of music first!!

At the age of 10 months, I was hit with a deadly disease: Spinal Meningitis. But thank God, I survived. Because of the disease, I became legally deaf (profound-severed) in my left ear and hard-of-hearing (severed) in my right ear. I currently use a hearing-aide device on my right ear. Regardless of my hearing disability, I ha
ve the gift of playing music, understanding music, and living musically. I have learned and played music since I was 8 years old.

Piano was not the first instrument I learned. I started off with playing drums which is my secondary. I decided to make piano as my primary instrument and loved playing the piano ever since. My parents noticed my gift of music and agreed to take me to private piano lessons weekly.

After multiple years of private piano lessons from age of 8 to 14 and taking music classes in High School, at the age of 16, I joined the full band in a local church as the lead keyboardist. Of 19 years - and counting - with experience of performing and playing piano with a band locally and out of towns, I've had the privilege for 2 years as the Director of Worship & Music Ministry at Victory Outreach Sacramento (Spanish). Victory Outreach International granted me an opportunity to perform the instrumental piano background at the 2011 Victory Outreach International/World Conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center, California.

In that same year, I enrolled into the full 2 1/2 year program at Life Music Institute (Instituto Vida Musik). The Director of Life Music Institute noticed my passion for music and the desire to create a Deaf Music some day; we became very close friends. He invited me to participate with 70 member choir at a local Sacramento Festival 2012. Saving the best for last, I was honored to lead in front of 3,800 people of the final special song "En Una Sola Voz" (In One Voice) in American Sign Language.

Currently, I am excited and honored to be the Worship Leader & Music Director at Elevate Life Church in Sacramento, CA.

Not only I play piano and drums, I play guitar as well! I loved acoustic guitar and decided to pick up a guitar and starting learning. Now, the guitar is my third instrument.

Besides living and playing music, I teach also! By numerous peers, families, and friends, I've been told that I have the gift of teaching. I love teaching!!

I felt compelled to start teaching piano in 2010 at home. Loud n Clear Musik was founded. I've been hired by Southgate Recreation & Park District in Sacramento, CA as a Special Interest Instructor and taught there too.

My teaching experience did not start there however. I first started teaching at the Sacramento City Unified School District as the Teacher Assistant from 2001 to 2004 at Sacramento High School and J F Kennedy High School. It was an unforgettable experience teaching the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Hearing, and disabled students. I returned to the Sacramento City Unified School District as an Instructional Assistant I & II in the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Special Education Program and worked there making a difference from 2012 to 2016.

While seeking a way to further serve the Deaf Community at a greater scale, I received a surprise message from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from a high reputation non-profit organization called Norcal Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She has heard about me and watched me volunteered and witnessed my ASL poetries in different events. In within 20 hours, I got hired on the interview. I am now serving the greater Northern California as a Deaf, Hard of Hearing & Deaf-Blind Client Advocate. In Fall 2016, I helped launch ASL Community Classes for the community with NorCal.

NorCal has me lead the ASL Community Classes for over a year now and I’ve taught over 100 students. It is still counting!! I've taught and teach students who are therapists, audiologists, government officials, teachers, educators, college and university alumni, families and members, elders, late deafened, dancers and performers, and fellow neighbors to help them better communicate, understand, and connect with the deaf community, Deaf culture, and their peers. I communicate in ASL non-stop with all Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind. I can teach ASL effectively, fitting the students and class level with ease, and with lots of fun!! I also communicate (and speak) very well in two other languages: English and Spanish.

From time to time, I participate, volunteer, or get invited to share my unique gift of performing poetry in ASL and dance. I also volunteer to interpret for any service as needed. I have performed the National Anthem at the Sacrament Kings game and at the Democrat vs Republican in Sacramento Rivercats stadium.

I've taught, communicated, and worked with infants, children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. I have even taught and worked with special needs students, co-workers, and clients who has cerebral palsy.

I volunteer my time and used my gifts in special and social events to share and inspire students, friends, families, and peers. Many times, I always encourage others to witness, support, and participate as well, especially at Deaf Camp Grizzly. I'm often asked to perform in different events.

I believe that music is not our life. Our life is music. You ARE a music. I'm looking forward to help you have a musical life!!

During the first lesson, I care about my students and their parents first; I want to be a friend to both of them. At the same time, they'll have a strategical, knowledgeable, and wise teacher. I start off with lots of comfortable questions about my new students, parents, and their interest. I even encourage my students to ask me questions too!! I move on in empowering my students to feel more at ease, confident, and fearless - and to enjoy!! Can a student learn without believing in themselves? Can a student have interest and passion without having fun or with a smile on their face? I encourage those important factors.

After noting down key strengths and weakness, their culture and daily environments, goals, examples of lessons, their preference of topics, needs, styles and songs, and creating a song list together, through excellence rapport and communication, I'll get the feeling of the students’ expectations, needs, and what they enjoy.

My style of teaching is very interactive and for anyone to learn. I had a 6 year old student who learn her first song, "London Bridge" on her first day. One adult student, who supposedly could never be on tempo, finally achieved this from tempo #50 to tempo #150 in 3 lessons. Other students who can play 'well' now improve their flexibility playing Major Scales with two hands with up-beat rhythms. Others can now fully understand the theory and rules of Major Scales, Minor Scales, Major and Minor Chords, Diminished and Augmented Chords, and fill out the exercise charts without hesitation. Surprisingly, another student now performs comfortably in front of their friends and family just for fun!! For sign language, students are always enjoying in learning to sign and my humors. Plenty of ASL students would be so encouraged and wants to pursue in becoming a professional interpreter or get a degree in Deaf Studies. These are just few examples of techniques, lessons, skills, theories, success, and new endeavors that students experience through my passionate teaching. I love what I'm doing!!

Each student learns in different ways. I am flexible and have access to many outside resources to ensure that my students' lessons are effective. My personality is lovely, fun, patience, peaceful, funny, kind, and friendly. From time to time, shy and timid private and group students are now confident and courageous. One very young student came up to me on his second lesson and said, "I really like you, Mr. Eddie!! I always enjoy seeing my student smile and laughing learning how to play music or learning sign language.

A quiet area is required for effective teaching and learning.

But more importantly, I study students' preference of genres to teach them basic fundamentals and go from there to more complicated fundamentals and techniques. I focus on teaching the students thoroughly of 3 elements of music: Melody, Harmony, and Rhythms - whichever is easier and more enjoyable for students to start with. Dynamics also are taught as well to add another important dimension to the music. Students do not have to sign songs if they just want to focus on communicating in sign language. Not a problem.

To achieve in understanding and performing or signing with all these elements, I highly implement them through visual, reading, writing, listening, and playing or signing. Lessons are hands on, active, thorough, and with common-sense examples and clarifications. Also, I enjoy teaching through many life examples to 'open their eyes' to the music language. I make sure that all their 'whys' are answered in a timely manner.

Isaac Levien is a multifaceted musician and educator from Lexington, MA. Isaac studied jazz bass at New England Conservatory of Music where he received a Bachelor in Music and contemporary performance at Berklee College of Music’s Global Jazz Institute, where he received his Master’s degree. Throughout his time in Boston Isaac performed regularly around the city with groups ranging from jazz to avant-garde to hip-hop to singer-songwriter projects at Boston’s top venues such as Wally’s, the Lilypad, Club Passim, The Middle East, and other performances at houses and colleges. Isaac has had multiple opportunities to perform and teach around the world including a week at the Conservatory von Amsterdam for their Keep an Eye Jazz Trip and two consecutive trips to the annual Panama Jazz Festival. Isaac is an excellent teacher and is highly recommended. His method is not centered on drills, music reading or repetition, but rather on getting an understanding of how the notes, chords work together. In so doing, the student gets a great understanding of theory and it opens the door to improvisation. In addition he's very patient with folks such as myself who don't come to class with a deep understanding of music theory.

I've taught hundreds of students over almost 20 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I began my violin studies at age 9, with my humble public school string program. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.

In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.

In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.

From 2015-2018, I had the joy of fiddling and singing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Blue Plate Special and Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.

Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, Zoom, and Take Lessons Classroom, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

My son took lessons with Rachel mostly online and sometimes in person. She was excellent at challenging him and letting him persue his interest in music, not just a book of lessons that sound "babyish". He learned some music theory, proper technique, form, and the fundamentals for lifelong playing. Few instructors can inspire a kid to want to sit in front of a webcam but Rachel can. She is an excellent instructor for all age levels.

I am totally into integrating songs and styles of music that you enjoy listening to and would like to learn how to play. I'm well versed in classical piano, jazz, pop, rock and blues. About Lynn
I have been studying voice and piano and performing on stage in various capacities since I was a small child, acting professionally on stage, in films and TV for most of my adult life. I've been blessed to study with countless music luminaries in varying genres, from jazz and classical to rock n' roll and blues.

I studied music at the university level both at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC. I received my BFA in Jazz Vocal Performance from The New School in 2008. I was given an incredible foundation in ear-training, music theory, composition, arranging and song-writing through these institutions.

My diverse music education and experience means I am able to teach music in many different styles and music of many different genres. I can accompany my students on piano a
nd help them to prepare for auditions. I can teach how to read music, to play classically on the piano, to read jazz charts, or help you figure out parts for a chord progression for a pop or rock song.

My acting training is equally many-faceted and I have an incredibly strong foundation based in the teachings of Sanford Meisner, Stanislavsky, Lee Strasberg and Larry Moss. I use the knowledge of these great teachers along with the wisdom I've accumulated from MY mentors over the years in my teaching and coaching.

Lynn is stellar. Her background and training are substantial and impressive. She is prompt, courteous, calm and absolutely wonderful with our daughter (Age 9) who has challenges focusing and staying on task. Lynn is kind, but navigates the lessons confidently, fluidly and with a focused energy. She works with our daughter's playfulness, incorporates humor and positive, encouraging energy into every lesson. Our daughter has shown signs of great improvement with Lynn. Lynn assigns tasks and practicing points each week for our daughter to work on which are balanced and also bring in a component of improvisation, which is SO helpful for kids who have challenges with focusing. Lynn is awesome, highly recommend!

One of the most important things for me will be garnering the students interest in Piano. I will not make a student play step by step, level by level piano books with cheesy melodies. This is the reason I lost interest in the piano and quit in 7th grade and didn't pick it up again till I was 18. The most important thing when teaching a student is fostering their interest. If the student is completely disinterested he will not pay attention and will not practice. And if the student does not pay attention and practice, he/she will not learn much. Figuring out what type of music my student likes to play and listen to will be my first task. After that it is simply a matter of teaching student pieces of increasing difficulty level. I have a thorough understanding of music theory and composition and if the student is interested I will teach that as well.

Hello my name is Richard Schroff and I am new to teaching piano (at least officially, for money). With me the emphasis will be on making things fun and enjoyable. Doing what you want to do, playing what you want to play and not forcing anything on you that you really don't like. A lot of teachers don't seem to realize that the most important thing you can to do to teach your student is to make things interesting. If the interest isn't there then the student won't pay attention, won't want to practice and won't learn much. My first task will be identifying what types of music you like to listen to and play. Once we identify this you can start learning the piano by focusing on the types of music you enjoy playing. I will also teach you music theory and composition if you are interested, as I have a thorough understanding of both. As for my
piano/music background I started playing piano when I was very young, about 8 or so and continued playing until 7th grade when I quit for a while. I quit playing because of the way I was taught by using level by level books with cheesy melodies that I was uninterested in. I started playing the piano again when I was 18 and was inspired by a Beethoven song. I quickly became obsessed with the piano finding out that I clearly have a natural talent for the piano that I never knew I had before. I soon became very skilled and a rather advanced pianist and would play composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff. At the level of skill I am at now I can easily play any Mozart or Beethoven sonata right away and can play virtually any piece at least at a reasonable speed. I have taken several Music Theory classes in college but have studied it more completely on my own and have composed a small amount of piano pieces. I feel I am good enough to teach some fairly advanced students, but because I am new to teaching the piano I would prefer you to be a beginner or intermediate level student. Thank You.
