My name is Jennifer. I got my degree in vocal performance and minored in Jazz. I began voice lessons myself when I was eight. I am a mezzo soprano, and can teach both female and male voices. I have performed in several opera productions including but not limited to The Marriage of Figaro, Dido and Aeneus, Tenderland, and Hand of Bridge. I have worked and performed in masterworks by Brahms, Chopin, Mozart to name a few. I studied in French, English, Spanish, Italian, and German. I studied diction, ear training, piano, music history, pedagogy, and music theory. I have also performed with artists such as New York Voices, Bobby Mcferrin and Kurt Elling. I was blessed with many learning opportunities to grow in my passion and I would love to pass that knowledge and passion to anyone who wants to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are de
signed around the needs of each student. The first lessons is always spent testing range, knowledge and abilities already known by the student. Then the student weighs in on what kind of music they would like to learn and what they hope to gain from the lessons. Theory and ear training are incorporated into the lessons. We work on breathing, technique and style. Generally we start with English or Italian. We work on vocal performance from a classical standpoint but Jazz and Broadway can also be taught if desired by the student. Scales and exercises are given each week to be worked on until the next lesson. A recording device is encouraged if the student cannot play the piano. Also, a voice note book to take notes during the lesson to be used during practice during the week.

About Nicole
As a voice teacher and voice coach I strive to help the student get to where they want to be vocally. For me singing is something that brings me joy and I hope to be able to share that with you.

It took me a while to realize how much music and singing means to me. While studying something entirely different at the University of Maryland, I began studying voice and realized that it was something that I had a gift for. I fell in love with singing art songs, jazz and opera arias. And while studying at the University of Maryland, I had the opportunity to work as a voice teacher/ section leader with the women's section of a choir, numerous opportunities to work as a soloist and in a few jazz clubs. I was also involved in dance performances and acted as a dance tutor.

Later, when I was invited to sing in Denver I had the opportunity
to sing in Little Shop of Horrors and to sing with a women's choir. While studying at the University of Colorado Boulder I began to come into my own and started to let my large sound free. (Which for me was a process. Getting your voice where you want it and to where it is capable is work. But, it is fun work and you're always happy when you have these great moments where you get to where you were hoping you could and that your teacher said you would go at some point.) It was there, at CU Boulder that I got the opportunity to start singing in operas. While in Boulder I sang in The Magic Flute, Sarah McKinnon and as a soloist or recitalist.

Also, while there I worked as an actress in a theater company called the Interactive Theater Project for three years. I thought that by getting involved in that that I would be able to act more effectively while singing. It was fun just doing something where you're just working with the spoken word. I had a wonderful time with them and learned a lot about character work and what it takes to connect to the words in an effective way.

In the past few years, I have been a soloist and recitalist in the Washington,DC area and has sang opera in Pennsylvania with Center Stage Opera. Last year, I sang with Center Stage Opera in the role of Bertha. I had the opportunity to sing and to act at the Kennedy Center a few years ago. Also during that time, I
sang in Aleko, the Die Zauberflöte as the Queen of the Night, Serena in Porgy and Bess, and
sang in Ragtime and sang the role of the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast.

I am currently working as a soloist, a children's choir director, a chorus member and preparing for a recital and auditions in October. I look forward to what the rest of the year will bring.

*** Lesson Details ***
If you're a beginner, I will help you to understand what you need to get through the vocal line with breath and intonation. We will begin by doing vocal exercises and learn a lot about breathing for singing. I want to help you to make more beautiful tones. I will also slowly begin teaching you how to read sheet music and to help you be a more effective listener when it comes to music. I can also help you to become a better communicator as a singer.

For acting, I will help you to learn how to develop characters and bring the writer's words to life. We will begin by seeing what sort of subjects or genres interest you and what you are doing with those words now, and how you can delve deeper into making the world of the characters something more flushed out.

Inside my home studio I have: music, a music stand, chairs, WiFi, a computer, a laptop, a keyboard, a microphone, a metronome, a microphone, an amp/large speaker, and a sofa.

For voice I would say that my focus is on classical voice. I also sing jazz, gospel and musical theater. For acting I have done both improvisational and regular scripted plays.

I have not taught students with special needs, but as someone with a twin sister with special needs, I am open to teaching students with special needs.

I began to pursue a career as a vocalist at the age of 12. I studied for 6 years under a professional opera singer and landed a role in the chorus of 'Annie Get Your Gun' on Broadway starring Burnadette Peters and Tom Wopat.

I continued my studies at Wheaton College, MA, and graduated with a B.A. in Music. Throughout college, I directed and conducted vocal and instrumental groups of various genres, and also began teaching.

Since graduating in 2008, I've taught hundreds of students voice, guitar, piano, music theory, and audio engineering.

During the day, I am a Network Engineer and enjoy playing ice hockey!

*** Lesson Details ***
I first ask the student, as well as the parents, to agree on a set goal. Then, I develop a 'mini-curriculum' tailored to the student's strengths and weaknesses. I structure each lesson the same way
: theory fundamentals, exercises, and performance practice. Within each lesson, I incorporate visuals, games, and other media. Live performances are also highly encouraged.

My student's would say that my lessons are motivational and packed with energy. I always follow up with parents to discuss progress, and the student's mandatory log book helps to keep everyone informed of what is expected each week.

I loved Jackson so much. He helped me understand completely new concepts and helped me learn things that will help me in my singing career. He takes a completely original approach to teaching and singing theory, and it really improves how you perform. I would definitely recommend him to someone who is comfortable with their singing voice, but wants to take it to the next level. But I'm sure he is great with everyone!

My method is a fun, energy-packed and safe environment where kids are encouraged to love God, music, their band members, and their electric guitar or bass.

My desire is to partner with parents to teach kids (6 and up) basic music skills using technology, rock, blues and worship, and this to serve as foundation for their musical growth and performances in their lives. Music as a language is our priority.

The Method

1) Music is a language...... By: Victor Wooten.

Both music and verbal languages serve the same purpose. They are both forms of expression.
They can be used as a way to communicate with others, they can be read and written, then can make you laugh or cry, think or question and can speak to one or many and both can definitely make you move.

"Music wor
ks better than the spoken word because it doesn't have to be understood to be effective."

In some instances, music works better than the spoken word because it doesn't have to be understood to be effective. Although many musicians agree that music is a "language" it is rarely treated as such.

Many of us treat it as something that can only be learned by following a strict regiment under the tutelage of a skilled teacher. This approach has been followed for hundreds of years with proven success... But it takes a long time. Too long.

Think about the first language you learned as a child. More importantly, think about how you learned it.

"You were allowed to make mistakes."

You were a baby when you first started speaking and even though you spoke the language incorrectly you were allowed to make mistakes - and the more mistakes you made, the more your parents smiled!

Learning to speak was not something you were sent somewhere to do only a few times a week. The majority of people you spoke to were not beginners, they were already proficient speakers. Imagine your parents forcing to only speak to other babies until you were good enough to speak to them! You'd probably be an adult before you could carry on a proper conversation.

To use a musical term, as a baby you were allowed to "jam" with professionals.

If we approach music in the same natural way we approached our first language, we would learn to speak it in the same short time it took to speak our first language.
Proof of this can be seen in almost any family where a child grows up with other musicians in the family.

Here are a few keys to follow in learning guitar or bass:

In the beginning we embrace mistakes instead of correcting them. Like a child playing air guitar there are no wrong notes.

Allow young musicians to play and perform with accomplished musicians on a daily basis.

Encourage young musicians to play more than they practice. The more they play, the more they will practice on their own.

Music comes from the musician, not the instrument.

You'll need a game console, a screen and a electric guitar or bass. It's non negotiable.

If you don't have it. I will provide you with a loaner system until you catch up.

3) A dedicated and passionate Teacher to tie everything together and keep you on track.

The early you start, the better. Kids age 6 or up are my best customers. They don't have adjust to anything other than to get their little fingers around a guitar appropriate to their size.
For young adults and people that tried play the guitar the old fashion way, here's my advise:

You will need to take a step back... or maybe two steps. Let me show you a better way.

These 3 things changes everything in how to learn or teach guitar. This is just to start the journey. I won't even mention custom songs or our musician club for you to perform your songs.

"If music is a language. You should never stop talking."

Remember that a language works the best when we have something interesting to say.
Many music teachers never find out what their students have to say. We only tell them what they are supposed to say.
A child speaks a language for years before they even learn the alphabet.
Too many rules at the onset will actually slow them down.
In my eyes the approach to music should be the same.

After all, music is a language too.

I began my formal study of piano at the age of five. I also studied violin, viola and tap dance during my youth. A very close friend and I founded the Young Senators, a R&B dance band which played throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan are. The group eventually became the “back up” group for Motown’s Eddie Kendricks, of Temptations fame. Throughout my career, I've performed with some celebrated music and movie stars; Cab Calloway, Esther Rolle, Brock Peters and Cecily Tyson, to name a few.

In the late 90s, worked for Jordan Kitts Music, providing (group and private) piano instruction for 3 year old up to adult seniors. My lessons were designed to build cumulative sequences of musical experiences that fostered continuous growth in musical understanding, skills, and knowledge with a focus towards contemporary and traditional ke
yboard harmonies.
In 2000, I worked for the Jewish Primary Day School (Grades K – 6), where I introduced the conceptual structure of music, focusing on melody, rhythm, and harmony and their expressive and stylistic organization. Program objectives included: 1) ability to listen with discrimination, 2) ability to sing on pitch within a limited range, 3) ability to play simple rhythm and melodic instruments, 4) ability to interpret music through body movements, impersonations, and dramatizations, and 5) ability to associate symbols of musical notation with musical concepts.

Today, I perform professionally and provide private online and offline piano instruction for children and adults.

Welcome! My name is Rob M. and I am professional cellist, string music educator and conductor who recently moved from the Philadelphia area returning to the DC Area. I hold a Bachelor of Music Education from DePauw University (2010). I am a certified K-12 instrumental/general music teacher in the state of Virginia and Washington D.C. In 2016, I completed my Masters of Music in String Pedagogy at Temple University. I've been playing cello for over 20 years and I have taught various age groups in public school and private studio settings for the last six years. Robert is great. Professional, knowledgeable, and puts the student at ease. Tailors the lesson to the student's individual needs. Robert is flexible as well when life happens and you need to reschedule.

Rob is very knowledgable with regard to the cello--he and my 16 year old son hit it off immediately! He asked my son what he wanted to work on and then they spent the next 45 minutes working on those things. After the lesson, we worked out a continuing schedule of classes for the next few months. We are very happy with Rob as a tutor for my son and equally happy with TakeLessons!

My students have achieved admission into Berklee College of Music in Boston, lead roles in their school plays such as Peter Pan and Into the Woods, and new levels of confidence and vocal technique that have made them the stars of their local talent shows and concerts!
I am a vocal coach with over 10 years of experience singing on stage in bands, in professional musical theater, and in voice competitions. I've been trained in Jazz, Classical, Musical Theater (legit and contemporary styles), Rock, Pop, and Folk Music (Americana and Celtic).
I am absolutely sure that any singer of any age or ability can come to me with their audition, performance, and vocal technique goals, and together we will achieve those goals and more!

Hi there!

My name is Orla and I love singing and teaching others to sing! I began my vocal training at the age of 12 learning how to sing classical and musical theater music. I eventually went on to learn jazz and rock vocal techniques before going to Berklee College of Music in Boston where I learned how to sing celtic music and alternative contemporary styles.

The most important thing to me when working with singers of any age or ability is helping them learn the correct techniques to keep their voices safe and healthy while singing. With this strong foundation, my students will be able to achieve almost any style or level of singing they desire. It is totally possible to stretch your vocal range, learn a new style, or incorporate movement into your songs if you simply use the correct and healthy vocal techniques!
I also make s
ure to focus a lot on confidence and stage presence to help students prepare for upcoming auditions, showcases, concerts, and talent shows. With my voice lessons it is absolutely possible to transition out of your stage fright and own that stage like you were born to be there, because you were!! These are not only vocal coaching sessions, but complete performance-ready-workshops.

Orla did a great job with my 11 year old daughter. She explained how as a young student, vocal chords are still developing and how to care for them during singing. My daughter really connected with her and enjoyed her first lesson.
