About Lynn
Whether  you are 5, 25, or  perhaps 75 years old when you make the decision to enter the world of music, you will be changing your life for the positive.

Your relationship with music & your chosen instrument is unique &
will  be life long.  I look forward to sharing  your
excitement as we pursue the path to comfort, confidence & the
eventual, inevitable joy you will achieve with your new friend.

*** Lesson Details ***
In a calm, easy going atmosphere you can expect to laugh a bit, as it is called 'playing music', as well as become focused & disciplined to succeed.

You will learn to have an understanding of how to read & play a minimum of 3 songs each month, & will be picking up enough music theory as it applies to your instrument each week to feel confident & inspired to continue on as far as you desire.

We will learn h
ow to 'play well with others' in informal as well as more structured gatherings every few months, with no pressure, only compassion & encouragement.

For those wishing to join in the fun of playing bluegrass music, we will start out with technique exercises, scales, basic melodies & accompaniment patterns to prepare you to learn this unique & exciting style of American music. There are many gatherings in the area called 'Pickin' Parties' that I want to get you ready to participate in as soon as is humanly possible.

If you are one of those brave souls undertaking the lovely but challenging fretless instrument, the violin, my main focus is to get you started with the all the necessary basic techniques - holding the instrument & bow correctly, getting the best possible tone & pitch using efficiency & accuracy, mixed with a great deal of ear training & heart.

Specific songs you'd like to learn? Your reward for accomplishing what I deem necessary on whichever instrument you've chosen will be for us to then listen to & analyze your desired piece, & I will then write it out in either tablature or standard notation.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson studio contains music stand, tuner, metronome, & there is easy parking in the well lit front lot.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student must have own instrument & be willing to purchase necessary tools as recommended at their first lesson for their instrument & playing level, such as music stand, tuner, pick, book, strap, etc. at a local music store or on line.

*** Specialties ***
Bluegrass, Country, Country Rock, Contemporary Christian, Americana, Ragtime Blues Guitar, Fingerstyle, Flatpick, Accompaniment, Ear Training, Theory, Harmony

Prior to joining the military, I taught general music in the Texas Public School system. I have a bachelor€'™s degree in music education from the University of Texas at Arlington. I am near the top-end of her student's age bracket... I hope she increases her range in a year or two. I'm returning to lessons for my own enjoyment....and, in the first two weeks she taught more than a year with others. Specifically she showed me how to practice non-vibrato long tones to increase my volume and tone; she is helping me get solo pieces metrically correct, before I start adding the dynamics. And, she is helping to adjust my posture while playing,
I enjoy playing duets with her near the end of the lesson and hearing her play professionally at concerts around the peninsula.
I wish the lessons were longer.
I highly recommend her!

About Christopher
I received my Doctorate of Musical Arts from Rutgers University in January of 2017, and have over ten years of professional teaching and performing experience. Whether you are just starting out on a horn or have a few years under your belt, I can help you realize your musical potential and show you how rewarding playing a musical instrument can be!

*** Lesson Details ***
The focus of each lesson depends heavily on the level of each student... beginning students can expect a larger portion of the instruction to focus on fundamentals and music reading so as to lay a foundation for further success. For these students I will generally work out of an existing band method as these are more than adequate, and perhaps add a few supplemental materials which in include simple exercises specific to the instrument, scale patterns, and rhythm/musi
c reading examples.

More advanced students can expect to review proper technique and work on appropriate etudes and solo repertoire. I spend a lot of time working on practice technique. Confidence building if necessary. If the student plays in a jazz band we can work on bebop/swing/improvisation as well.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a stand, tuner, metronome, and video and audio recording devices should we decide to use them.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide teaching materials and can bring a music stand. Student needs working instrument, and should own a tuner, metronome, and music stand. For a tuner/metronome I recommend a Korg TM-50. Nearly anything will do for a stand but I'd avoid a flimsy fold-up stand. I recommend an On-Stage SM7211. Can't go wrong with a Manhasset black stand either.

*** Specialties ***
Classical solo repertoire and audition preparation. Blues and bebop improvisation. Musicality and lyricism. Technique.

My goal is to demystify vocal technique for students and help them “find their voice" pretty quickly with patience and care in a safe and friendly environment. In a relaxed, positive, and supportive atmosphere; students will improve their breath control and support, projection, phrase length, range, intonation, quality, comfort, stage performance and presentation skills, as well as other technical and stylistic aspects. I am currently available to teach lessons at my studio and online.

My credentials and affiliations include a Bachelor's in Vocal Music from Lamar University, Hurrah Players, Governor's School for the Arts, Opera Breve, and VA Opera. I specialize in opera and musical theater. I also record and perform pop, roc
k, R&B, and jazz. Trained by some of the best artists and teachers in Virginia and Texas, I have gained extensive knowledge in vocal pedagogy that has allowed me to become versed in numerous styles and crossover genres. Contact me and we can discuss in more detail want you are looking for in a voice teacher, your vocal goals and experiences, as well as availability and location details. Do not miss the opportunity to work with someone who is really dedicated to nurturing voices and serving art in a down to earth way and will get you where you want to go fast.

She said she would be able to help me with an issue in falsetto but was not able to help. We spent most of the lesson doing exercises that had nothing to do with my issue. Afterwards she sent info from wikipedia on how to sing falsetto. That's not what the issue was, nor did I pay for something I could get for free on the internet. I found another teacher who was able to help - we worked directly on my issue and I learned how to resolve it. This lesson was a complete waste of my money.

A few months ago after researching a number of vocal instructors in the area and speaking with a few friends, I decided to give Cara a try based on her teaching approach, and resume. Since I had virtually no vocal experience (other than some off-key excursions in the car) I was surprised that I could actually sing the correct notes during my first lesson with her.
Cara's positive, but meticulous approach has helped me improve my vocal ability farther than I ever imagined over the last 6 months. She is fun to work with and I would recommend her to anyone.

Hello and thank you for the opportunity to serve.

There is no greater blessing than to use the gifts you've been given to directly benefit others! If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life!

Be certain, making music is unlike anything else you've done. At the same time, making music will strengthen everything else you WILL do!

Whether you choose me to help to you along the way or another teacher, please be sure to get a teacher that is patient, experienced and disciplined. Your first year of music lessons will either create a strong foundation or collapse under the partially built structure. Give the teacher a chance to make their point. Don't be too quick to judge based on the inexperience of the student. The fundamental lessons must be repeated until learned.

Whatever you do, get a teacher. Do not wa
ste time believing you can 'self teach'. Your technique needs to be monitored by someone who knows music.

I've learned a great deal in my 20 years of teaching;

- patience
- persistence
- keep it fun
- change it up
- don't compromise the fundamentals
- encourage musical discipline
- tuning, warm-up, scales, technique, repertoire, new material
- repeat!

It's my belief that music fundamentals are critical and we will create a solid musical foundation by learning the language, understanding the critical issues of timing, rhythm, reading and learning how to LEARN!

I enjoy working with all ages but specialize in children and adults that act like children!

Stay a child! Learn something new.

What are you waiting for?!

If you don't see an availability you would like, please feel free to contact me via the TakeLessons site and ask questions!

I have been taking piano lessons with Izabela for two months now and it has been a great experience so far.
