Adam has helped my son find his voice after only working with him for a short time. He gave him valuable tips, exercises, and even recorded the lesson so that my son can go back and refer to what he was taught. Can’t wait for him to continue working with him.

This was my first lesson with Adam and everything went well. Adam made feel at ease and his singing advice was very informative and productive. An excellent teacher.

As a trumpeter, my skills vary from technique, jazz improvisation, lead trumpet playing, to classical playing. I was a member of the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra in 2018, a jazz band consisting of musicians selected from across the United States. With this band I traveled to Japan and performed in the Monterey Jazz Festival in California. I have also toured Europe on several other occasions playing festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Umbria Jazz Festival with the Philadelphia Jazz Orchestra. Here in the States I have played at venues such as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Birdland, Chris’s Jazz Café in Philly, The Kennedy Center, and more.

About Jonny

I am a current student at William Paterson University studying jazz trumpet and music education. I have been fortunate to study with nationally and internationally acclaimed trumpeters Jeremy Pelt, Joe Mosello, and Nathan Eklund. Additionally, I have studied under the great guitarist Joseph Federic

Jonny Gittings is not only a remarkable and exceptionally talented musician, he is equally skilled in his instruction. My son and daughter have taken trumpet lessons from Jonny for years and he is professional, knowledgeable, and always has a plan and a solution. No matter what may be troubling my kids with their music, their form or their instrument, Jonny always makes them feel at ease and helps them overcome any obstacle. We feel so fortunate to have learned from the best!

//clinician, professional trumpet player & maker// Over the past 26 years I developed my own technique and teaching methodology how to play brass instruments the most efficient way.

The lip is the sound source which creates a standing airwave within the instrument and the trumpet functions as a filter and amplifier.

I also developed a special tongue technique which requires less movement when phrasing notes ( single, double and triple tongue) and therefore is faster, requires less effort, is very versatile, usable in any style of music and is much more accurate in hitting the notes.

If you understand these two aspects and are able to implement them you perform better with practicing less.

I cover all aspects of trumpet playing ( technique, breathing, posture, embochoure, equipment, phrasing, sight reading, improvisation, high range, endurance, sound quality, repertoire etc.).

"Ms. Laverty has been my son’s private trumpet teacher since the summer of 2012. She is patient, kind and very supportive of his efforts in playing the trumpet. In large part, she is the reason that my son enjoys playing trumpet and continues to thrive as a musician.

From the beginning she tailored her lessons to include the music that my son was interested in and also added increasingly more complex music to work on and master.

Sandra has taped him playing during lessons to show him how and where he can improve in body position, quality of sound and other nuances. She regularly uses her laptop computer to show videos of performances that support the lesson and also assigns various Internet sites to view for exposure to other musicians and styles.

Sandra regularly provides opportunities for my son to perform in public. He has performed at the annual CMEA event at San Jose State University, and other smaller events where he played solo on stage. They have both joined in at a local café for practice in improvisation, as my son loves to play jazz. This has really helped in his jazz solo opportunities at school. She has also organized a quartet of student trumpet players to work together on various music pieces and then they all performed together for family and friends. This was a unique experience for the children to practice and play together and perform as a group.

My son is also interested in basketball and baseball, and Sandra has been very flexible in scheduling lessons to accommodate my son’s athletic and school schedules. After about 6 months of lessons, she offered twice a week lessons to capitalize on my son’s enthusiasm and increase the speed of musical advancement so his confidence soared and he wanted to play more because he liked doing something he felt he was good at. He kept this schedule for about a year and then back to once a week to allow for more time for other interests.

During middle school, my son played trumpet in both the Advanced Band and also Jazz Band classes. This past summer, Sandra again offered twice weekly lessons to get ready for his high school debut. As a result, he was chosen to play first chair in the high school jazz band. He was also one of only two freshmen that were accepted into the most advanced band class (also known at Wind Ensemble) at Lincoln High School.

I recommend Sandra Laverty, without reservation, for any trumpet teaching opportunity."

"Since our son has been working with Jeremy, he has a new confidence and has moved to second chair in band placement. His technical skills and musicality have improved, and he is working on fundamentals instead of just working on band music. Our schedules have been very busy, and Jeremy has been very flexible in working with us. Our son loves the online format, and we much appreciate not having to haul him around for lessons!"

"Jerry gives my daughter trumpet lessons online and it has been a great experience. He has a great deal of knowledge and my daughter has found his teaching method to be beneficial. Jerry is great with communication and follows up the lesson with notes and assignments. He has mixed practical with theory and there is a balance with the assignments where my daughter can also share the music that she needs to practice for orchestra. Jerry is accommodating with schedules. I can confidently say that the lessons with Jerry are quite beneficial and my daughter has great things to say about Jerry's personality as well as teaching style."

"My name is Dee. I have been a middle school band teacher in the Clarkstown School District for over 20 years. I play trumpet in a local concert band and jazz big band each week. I have taken trumpet lessons with Vincent for a year and a half. Through his instruction and encouragement I have made great strides in my technical abilities, range and endurance. I appreciate the well prepared insights and materials he has for me at each lesson, whether it is written material, or "youtube" video insights he has researched and thought helpful. I am very impressed with his musicianship when he models, plays duets, and performs for me. His trumpet performing is wide ranging and always of the highest caliber, whether live, or in recording. As a teacher Vinnie always shows sincerity and humility which puts his students at ease and in a great place to learn."
