About Gregory
I began to pursue a career as a vocalist at the age of 12. I studied for 6 years under a professional opera singer and landed a role in the chorus of 'Annie Get Your Gun' on Broadway starring Burnadette Peters and Tom Wopat.

I continued my studies at Wheaton College, MA, and graduated with a B.A. in Music. Throughout college, I directed and conducted vocal and instrumental groups of various genres, and also began teaching.

Since graduating in 2008, I've taught hundreds of students voice, guitar, piano, music theory, and audio engineering.

During the day, I am a Network Engineer and enjoy playing ice hockey!

*** Lesson Details ***
I first ask the student, as well as the parents, to agree on a set goal. Then, I develop a 'mini-curriculum' tailored to the student's strengths and weaknesses. I structure each lesson the same way
: theory fundamentals, exercises, and performance practice. Within each lesson, I incorporate visuals, games, and other media. Live performances are also highly encouraged.

My student's would say that my lessons are motivational and packed with energy. I always follow up with parents to discuss progress, and the student's mandatory log book helps to keep everyone informed of what is expected each week.

*** Instruments/Equipment ***
I provide only equipment that I will personally use for the lesson (books, audio, and instrument). I do not provide instruments, electronic equipment (i.e. amps, cords, keyboards, speakers, computer, etc), books, or sheet music. I expect my students to have or purchase all the materials they will need.

*** Specialties ***
I also offer ear training, songwriting, vocal arranging and music production workshops for artists interested in pursuing a career in the music industry.

My name is Eric M. B. I am a tutor with a four year college degree (B.A.) in math and philosophy and a sum total of eleven years experience in tutoring exclusively to students age 13 to adult. I love to tutor math and see students gain the math knowledge necessary to succeed in their math courses. I put emphasis on mathematical theory and in tutoring I exhibit precision, clarity, and most of all patience. Frequent repetition and further explanation of mathematical theorems and definitions is necessary. I also have the ability to tutor logic, politics, and civics(American government).

My style and attitude toward teaching tends to be conversational, reflective, and interactive, along the lines of current research on effective education. I have developed a talent with certain creative arts, such as imaginative writing and electronic music production; as a result, I am computer literate, capable of assisting with computer assembly, maintenance, and design, as well as productivity software. Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I also have formal education in the field of English, innovative leadership, and Education.
My current level is ABD in a PhD program that is thus nearing completion. I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in Leicester, UK.
My most popular subjects are as follows:

American-English Pronunciation Practice for ESL (AEPP-ESL):
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software to involve audio feedback and self-monitoring.

Sources: Burkkowsky, Mitchess (1969) Teaching American Pronunciation to Foreign Students. New York: Warren Green, 1969.

German Language and Culture:
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

I have grown up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed college-level German credits. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor. My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

Microsoft Excel:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.

Typing:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.

I was originally born in Cincinnati, Ohio in a large family (youngest of nine kids), and we all attended Catholic schools... this is where I started learning Spanish. I have studied it (and English Literature) for many years, then eventually won a scholarship to study/travel in Mexico for six months. I returned from Mexico fluent, graduated from college with honors in language and Humanities, then decided to go live in Washington, DC to use that language. I got into corporate training, working 10 years at Fannie Mae as I traveled to 38 of the 50 states to help them train banks on their financial systems. I later began working in healthcare, and got certified as an interpreter AND as an Instructional Designer. I have designed educational programs ever since at hospitals, schools, educational centers, retail organizations, and with hig
her education (now at GWU). My hobbies include speaking Spanish, swimming, listening to jazz, playing with my daughter and my beagle.

If you are looking for a Spanish teacher look no further! Naomi is a very skilled and phenomenal teacher. I have taken her class for the last 10 months and I truly can see the progress I have made with her teaching style. She not only has set lessons from the book, but she will bring real-world examples such as food, newspapers, and music! I recently traveled to the Dominican Republic and I was amazed at how easily I was able to hold a conversation. The people there let me know that my Spanish was very good. It was definitely a compliment for me. I believe that a student is only as good as their teacher. Naomi is the right teacher!

I love teaching and giving people huge time saving tips that dramatically accelerate their learning. I find teaching very rewarding.

In addition to "Your Go To Web Guy", I'm an oil painter, portrait photographer and guitarist, with over 10 years of pro experience with WordPress.

Mark is an awesome combination of creativity, artistic talent and the patience to walk with a client through the process of creating a beautiful and highly personalized website. Mark has a great sense of humor and is a delight to work with. As a psychotherapist and author, I wanted my first website to present who I am professionally and personally and still work within my budget. Mark did just that and did it all in three days. Thank you, Mark. I am thrilled with my beautiful website.

Alice G. Miller 7/20/17

----------------------------------
---------------------------------

Mark is wonderful to work with! I am a graphic designer with limited web experience, so when I needed a website for my own firm, I turned to Mark for help. He enthusiastically agreed to work with meβ€”he did all the setup and technical work, but at the same time, we sat together and he taught me how to get in the back end and do some things myself. He was patient and had a great sense of humor as I tried to grasp this foreign language! I would highly recommend Mark for organizations who need him to handle EVERY aspect of their website, as well as for others, like me, who need help, but also want to be able to change things themselves. Thanks to Mark, I now have a website I am extremely proud of. In addition, he made it happen quickly, which to me was imperative. Bravo Mark and many thanks!
Lena Markley

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There were three things I was looking for in a web designer:
1. Empathy-the ability to understand the concept of what I wanted to create.
2. Design Capability-I did not want a cookie cutter approach that looks like all the other sites on the web.. I wanted a site that was both professional and with a unique look.
3. Technical Capability-the ability to build a functional site that would work well.

Mark produced on all three counts.
He was effective in getting the site developed and was readily available throughout the entire process.
I would recommend him to anyone who requires a new website or an overhaul of their current one.
Thank you Mark!
