ABOUT ME: I’m a drum teacher and artist who resides and has a studio space in Northborough, MA. I primarily teach at my studio, but will also travel to your home or have lessons via Skype or FaceTime. I have been playing drums since I was 6. I first started teaching in 2000. I could never fathom my life being void of this connection and want to pass on this healthy bond to others.

The diversity and abilities of my current and former students speak to my innate ability to connect, efficiently and effectively, and to teach. If you asked each of them independently, they share this common answer: they come away with a solid understanding of rhythm and the role of the drummer in a band, as an accompanying instrument, as a sound-base for meditation, as well as a holding the firm knowledge of the techniques and attitudes that make for excellent musicianship.

I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for over 20 years, and believe that anyone can have FUN learning to play the drums. As a teacher, I can give you the tools, technique, and confidence to achieve your drumming goals, whatever they might be. Whether you're just starting out or picking drums up again after a hiatus, I will work with you to create a customized curriculum to help you unlock your full potential. Drums are one of the most fun instruments to learn, and I am adept at performing and teaching all styles, from rock to jazz to everything in between.

I have played as a substitute drummer in the orchestra of the Off-Broadway show "Jersey Boys," and have also backed up Adam Pascal ("RENT," "Aida"), Christine Ohlman (vocalist for the Saturday Night Live Band), and Carolee Carmello ("The Addams Family," "Mamma Mia!"). As an educator, I strive to provide my students with the tools that they will need to explore the direction that they want to take with their instrument. This can include from enjoying drumming as a hobby, performing in small jazz ensembles, recording electronic and acoustic drums in major recording studios, to performing with a full orchestra! There is literally no limit to what you can do.

My focus is to get hobbyists to enjoy performing drums in the comfort of their own home or with friends, and to have my professionally-minded students go out into the world of performing and recording music. All of these environments are where the ultimate joy of playing an instrument can be expressed.

As a gigging and studio musicians, I understand what it takes to get to the stage or studio, apply oneself in that environment, and come away with a satisfying experience that you can then build upon for the rest of your life.

Hi! My name is T.J. and I am a professional drummer and educator currently living in Forest Park, IL. I received my B.A. in Jazz Studies from Elmhurst College in the Spring of 2019. I have been playing professionally in Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs for over five years now, and have played the drum set for 13 years.

I am very passionate about my craft, and absolutely love spreading that knowledge with others and inspiring them to the best of my ability. I am well versed in many styles, including Rock, Jazz,, Fusion, Funk, World Music, and Classical Percussion.

I am active in many bands, such as Instrumental Rock/Fusion band Elysian Green and Folk/Rock band Fleeting Suns (check either out on spotify!) I've been lucky enough to record and share the stage with famous Chicago musicians, such as Chris Siebold, Mark Colby, Frank Caruso, Jeremy Khan, and Marlene Rosenberg, among others. I've been teaching drums to students of all ages since 2004. I'm available for lessons at my home studio or your house, and I'm great with kids, however I ask that your child is at least 6 years old. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic drum beats and play along to some of your favorite songs. At the same time, we'll work on good drumming technique, note reading, developing good timing, and more. I'm a very patient and positive teacher and would be excited to hear from you! I pride myself on having long-term student retention. :)
