I have been playing guitar for 20 years, and have experience playing and teaching most style of guitar including rock, jazz, pop and R&B.
I have taught guitar lessons for 10 years. I specialize in Jazz, Rock, Blues and Pop.

Guitar:
Guitar is one of my favorite instrument to learn and I began playing at age seven. To become a well rounded musician and player I always start with basics. Hand and finger technique, notes, rhythms, chords, learning the fretboard, soloing and songs. If the student is only interested in learning songs I am happy to have them bring in anything they want to learn. For students who want more advanced technique I will teach them theory and how it relates.

As a teacher I am very patient with students and enjoy helping them reach their own musical goals. I emphasize knowing the basics and encourage students to study music theory and basic reading of standard notation. I always ask my students to bring in songs they want to learn as a way to motivate them to practice more.

*** Lesson Details ***
GUITAR: I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week for at least a 1/2 hour per day. I use the Suzuki method for young students ages 8 to10. We continue learning basic folk songs by ear and then start reading standard notation and basic theory within 6 to 8 months along with classical guitar duets. For older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method. After 3 months of lessons students can expect to know the basic open position chords and strum patterns to some basic songs as well as some famous guitar riffs and also be able to read some basic melodies in standard notation. I've been teaching guitar for 6 years and love seeing my students discover their own musicality and style through guitar! I specialize in teaching school-age kids, teens, adult beginners, and secondary instrument learners.

As a beginner, you’ll learn to keep your strumming steady while changing between 2-5 basic chords within a few lessons. You will find in just a few lessons that the songs you know and love are actually accessible and playable! With continued practice, you’ll start to create your own songs using the chords you know, and you will learn more complex chords, strumming patterns, fingerpicking, transposing, and reading melodies on the staff.

I'll make your lessons meaningful to you, by creating many of my own visual aids to meet your level and interests. We will blend your favorite modern genres with “classic” and “classical” tunes, and explore composition and songwriting along the way! One of my favorite things to do is to sit around the campfire with friends and family, guitar in hand, sand sing the night away! My personal style of guitar is voice accompaniment. However, I am more than happy to teach you the basics of Classical Guitar as well! Guitar is one of the most versatile instruments around, and I can't wait to get you started on it!

I have always been something of a mathematician at heart, and I believe in teaching students to apply that sort of methodical critical thinking to all aspects of music. I believe that music education should be goal-oriented, but that there are certain aspects of music that are fundamental whether the student wants to play funk, modern extreme metal, or to write the next atonal masterpiece. To this end, I always meet my students where they are and focus on where they want to go, addressing these fundamentals in a way that will be engaging for all.

I encourage students to delve into theory and technique deeply enough that they shift from being sets of rules to being a framework and a tool that can be used (and abused) as needed, and I seek to help my students build the mental and physical roadmaps that they need to achieve this goal.

I also teach lessons specifically designed to help students build confidence and understanding on extended range guitars.
