About Travis
Hi,

My name is Travis, and I have been playing trumpet for 17 years. I have been teaching for 8. I love working with new students, and became more focused on private lessons during my Sophomore year in college. Speaking of which, I earned a Bachelors of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Maryland College Park.

While there, I played with the Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra and Jazz Band. I am also a regular performer with the Prince Georges Philharmonic.

As each student is different, so is my technique and teaching method. Generally, I have students work through the fundamentals of the instrument including fingerings, embouchure, breathing and scales. Once mastered, the more difficult obstacles such as range, dexterity, repertoire and endurance are approached. I do not work with a set schedule for s
tudents, and tailor the lesson plan for the student's growth and practice.

Travis was great. He paced the lesson right for my daughter and started instilling some fundamentals that she was missing. He is kind and friendly. And a great musician!

Travis is a great teacher, he is patient and has vast knowledge of music theory. He has a warm personality which sets the tone for me to learn. He started with the basics, my posture, breathing and how to hold the trumpet and it's parts. I look forward to each lesson.

Travis did a great job--he quickly picked up on what things I needed to work on and adjusted his lesson plan to me. And he's fun and easy to work with. I'm excited to be getting started on piano lessons!

Playing a brass instrument can be a fun and rewarding experience when approached in the correct way. I help all my students develop a good attitude toward playing music, as well as setting them up for success in developing a good sound and technique. I have helped students prepare for all situations, including auditions, adjudications, and yearly band concerts.

I specialize in brass instruments, soand have 20 years of experience. I can teach you everything from sound production and control to crossing from mere technique into meaningful music. We can talk about everything from a trumpeter's leadership role in the orchestra to handling the stress of a competitive instrument. There's a certain trumpet "swagger," and I can help you *earn* it.

About Holly
My 20 years of musical experience taught me that JOY is as important as knowledge and technique. We'll pursue a learning trajectory that suits you and your goals (large or small!), all while providing you with the encouragement to enjoy the process as well as the results. My teaching style is dynamic and positive; I want you to look forward to your lessons. And I have both the teaching and performing chops to challenge you and impart some serious skills.
I have my Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Conservatory and a Postgraduate Diploma in Trombone Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. I've taught a wide range of students -- from children who've never before picked up an instrument, to accomplished high schoolers, to adults who've always wanted to learn and finally have the freedom to do so.
I enj
oy helping people as much as I enjoy performing, and I'd love the chance to inspire and encourage you however I can.

My daughter's lesson with Holly was amazing. My daughter started playing trumpet at the age of 6. I bought her a used trumpet and she basically taught herself how to read music and how to play. By the time she was in middle school, after several years of elementary school band class, where everyone learns an instrument, my daughter had grown bored of her trumpet. She was great at it, but there was no challenge and very little inspiration for her to play. When she met Holly for her lesson that all changed. She was able to talk with Holly and share with her many of her trumpet and band experiences. Holly was enthusiastic and positive as an instructor. She really was able to connect with my daughter(a teenager) and encourage her. My daughter left her lesson feeling very interested in trumpet again and wanting to explore a variety of music she could play on her trumpet. For the next few days she was listening to various trumpet players online and different music styles, at Holly's recommendation.
I can confidently recommend Holly as an instructor for any student who wishes to play trumpet. I believe she is the perfect instructor for my middle school daughter.

My passion for music drives my desire to share it. I value having fun and enjoying what you do above all else so I try to teach in a lighthearted, friendly, peer-to-peer type of way. I think that musicians flourish when they are able to build on their own ability without the help of the teacher, so my goal is to enable you to become better than what I could ever teach you. I have studied the trumpet for almost 10 years and am excited to share what I know with the next generation of trumpeters!

About Andrew
Hello!

Are you a fan of dorky jokes? Good, because I'm a pro at those. I am currently a junior in college and I am spending a semester here in DC interning on Capitol Hill. I give lessons because I have a passion for what I do and I want to share that. I am not a teacher. I am a someone that wants to be a friend first, and an instructor second. My goal is to get you, the student, to a place where I am no longer needed; like Mary Poppins, but with less singing.

Sorry parents, I cannot afford a background check (hence the reason why I'm giving lessons) but fortunately, the US federal government gave me a free one and they said I was good to go, so if you need proof of hire, just let me know and I'd be happy to share.
