Barbara is a fantastic instructor. I took lessons as a child into my mid teens and quit. I recently decided to start back up. With 20+ years gap in my instruction, I was nervous about finding an instructor who could keep up with me. I knew I could still easily play music but would have LOTS of questions in the interim that I theoretically would have known otherwise playing the given level of music.

Barbara has been a PERFECT fit for what I was looking for in an instructor. She’s been helping me refine my skills and fill in many gaps in my instruction. She’s been wonderfully supportive and encouraging. I’ve felt my confidence grow tremendously over the last month. I can truly sense that she’s as excited to be teaching as I am to be learning.

I HIGHLY recommend Barb, especially to adults looking to rekindle a long lost love of piano<3

Well it was just my first lesson so far. But I think it went very well. Found her to be very pleasant to work with easy to get along with. I'm looking forward to my next lesson coming up Monday.

She is wonderful. That she gave me a hint of her own talents while demonstrating something for me was a gift. I am so glad she’s consented to help me relearn guitar.

Just had my first lesson on learning to play the Banjo. Lynn appears to be the perfect teacher for me. She is extremely knowledgeable, yet was able to explain the basics that made sense with my novice understanding, and gave great constructive feedback, as well as encouragement and praise. I look forward to many more lessons with Lynn.

I love teaching students what THEY want to learn, while providing them with a solid foundation on their instrument. I will cater the lesson to the needs of the student and make it fun, because music is meant to be fun. I can help students learn music of their choice, or I can come up with some music to get them started. If they want to to learn music by ear, read music, improvise, or learn new tunes, I love teaching all of those things!

About Alani

I am a fiddle, mandolin, and guitar player with a passion for bluegrass and old time music. Over my years of learning to play this music, I have been taught by many amazing teachers and mentors, which has inspired me to want to teach and mentor other musicians. My students can expect to learn

Hello, my name is Tal and playing the violin has been my biggest passion since 2001. For the past several years teaching has became one too, and I would love to work with you and help you reach your musical goals.
During the lessons, I will do my best to make the learning experience as productive, fun and challenging as possible. Whether you are a beginner or advanced student, we will work on your technical abilities, finding your own musical ideas and how to make them really come out (which is the best part, of course!). An additional value that comes with studying a musical instrument is the development of your problem solving skills: if you want to practice productively, you must ask yourself the right questions, and then use the knowledge you have to come up with solutions. During our lessons, you will find yourself asking and answering questions, so you are as prepared as possible to be an independent violinist.
I look forward to working with you!

About Tal

I began my violin studies in 2001. As I grew up, I continued my studies at Thelma Yellin School of Arts and later on at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. Nowadays I study at the Juilliard School and also serves as a Teaching Fellow at the Ear Training Department of Juilliard. For the past several

"A great experience.

As an adult, beginner student I have nothing but good things to say about Ian. He has a very good demeanor during class and takes the time to find out what styles you are interested in.

He has the patience and communication skills that are found in superior instructors (I have been to a couple others and have stuck with Ian). His passion for music is infectious.

He challenges me to become better with each week and is good at instilling a sense of competition. I highly recommend him as an instructor."

"I feel really grateful to have Brian as a piano teacher. Before I came to him for lessons, everyone had always said that I was lacking something in my playing, and I myself felt that there was a threshold I couldn’t yet reach. I didn’t get it, but after having lessons with Brian, I started to understand how to make the music sway the audience, instead of just playing for myself. I genuinely feel that I am reaching greater heights I hadn’t ever comprehended before. As a student, after a couple years under his tutelage, I had been introduced to new opportunities and taught better methods of playing. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had."

"My first lesson was wonderful , I had been trying to learn on my own for the last three months, Mimis instruction was very helpful. She was friendly warm and encouraging. I look forward to my next lesson. I was a little intimidated by her vast experience , she reassured me and put my fears at ease. She also has experience teaching adults which is what I was looking for . I am 50 years old and have no experience playing violin ."

"Anyone with half a brain knows that if a student is unhappy they can change teachers easily. Only a coward writes anonymous reviews out of jealousy. Since Take Lessons guarantees all lessons a person with integrity would simply work things out over the phone instead of hitting "below the belt". Some teachers have learned from the best at M.I. in Hollywood so that is telling it like it is. This is not "Name Dropping." I have known James for 15 years and have found him to be the best teacher ever, period.
Don't believe anything you read in "anonymous" reviews."

14 Common Musical Terms All Piano Players Need to Know

As you're learning how to read music on the piano, you'll come across a lot of different words and terms that will seem like a foreign language. And that's because... they are! Most sheet music terms you'll see are Italian, or have Italian roots, while others are taken from French, German, Latin, or Spanish. But don't worry -- you don't need to learn how to speak Italian fluently to be a good piano player. There are many piano terms and symbols, but the 14 listed in the infographic below are …
