At age 12, I wanted to play piccolo in a marching band. though I was soon to be inspired by the amazing young musicians of the Seattle Youth Symphony and camp Orchestras under Maestro Vilem Sokol. Then thrilled to join them after having the good fortune of training with the then Seattle Symphony flute/piccolo players- Sidney and Adele Zeitlin, I began as a classical flute and voice major at WWSU in Bellingham.
My growing attraction to theater, then jazz, led me to Seattle UW San Francisco S U drama departments, while studying and playing every improvisational style of music from Brazilian to free form and pop/rock with many artists such as Paul Horn, Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Chuck Sher (Sher Music publisher), touring with renowned bebop vocalist, Jon Hendricks from the west coast to NYC,
Since then, I have performed voice, flute, and picollo in my own and others' numerous classical, jazz, pop, and theater ensembles, for over 45 years, teaching flute and voice since age 17 at
About Abby
Due to my maternal grandfather's career as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Starting to study classical flute at age 12, then playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and taking professional jazz/classical flute workshops/master classes, I've been teaching and playing all styles of flute music professionally since my 20's.
Vocal study began at age 15 with some great artists/educators in SF, Seattle, and Europe, including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Broadway singer Adrian West, David Tigner- SF Opera, Davida Kagan-Seattle Opera, and Rol
Manhattan Transfer coach /NY Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through many years of teaching experience, I've developed a very successful, uniquely simple 8 part method to help cross cultural individuals/groups of all ages , styles, and levels, sing optimally from their hearts. The necessary basic vocal techniques can be taught effectively in 4 to 8 lessons, though integrating the technique into your own style takes longer and can continue throughout one's lifetime.
With a BA in Theater Arts from San Francisco State University, and over 50 years directing, acting, and musical experience, including the last 15 years also working successfully as an ESL educator, I have gained the confidence to help almost any student achieve their personal and/or professional goals.

Hi! I have a Bachelors in Music Education and have taught lessons for many years. I have 3 children and decided to give up regular teaching to be with them. I have taught at over 10 different Marching programs. I marched Drum and Bugle Corp. I have played brass a lot because of it. I can bring an eclectic education to teaching flute my primary instrument, but I can also teach many other instruments. The main problem I have noticed with beginner flute players is the in ability to focus their air in the most efficient way to produce a rich tone. I believe tone is the most important area of study with any instrument. It doesn’t matter what you can play if it doesn’t sound good. I can help with music you are having trouble with and also with fun music! The term is to “play” your instrument, isn’t it!
Can’t wait to meet you!
About Kim
I have worked with many different age groups and levels of ability. I am happy to help you learn to have fun and "play" your instrument!

About Jennifer R.
CloseMusic lessons should be fun, encouraging and full of music that you love. They are an opportunity to learn something new, show your improvement, and receive correction, encouragement and praise. Students and instructors should play together frequently throughout and the time should be balanced with theory, technique and exercises, sight-reading, and performance and seasoned with introductions to a variety of music and styles. I like to encourage students to play because they love to play and to find the music that is an integral part of their soul, then to share that with others through performance. What do you want to do with or gain from your music? We will work toward your goals.
About Jennifer
I come from a musical family and have been singing and playing the piano since before I can remember. Flute (and piccolo) lessons began for me in the 7th grade and I participated in both concert and marching bands from there though college. Now I take regular opportunities to play with various groups of all sizes.
I have taught music (theory, flute, piano and vocal) to students of varying ages and backgrounds both individually and in groups. Working as the woodwind and marching assistant at my alma mater was a thrill and I enjoied seeing and helping students push themselves and reap the rewards of both talent and recognition for their efforts and accomplishments.
While participating in the Prince William Community Band, I had the opportunity to learn to play some percussion instruments and played in that section for a couple years. I have been a music director for several years and enjoy arranging music. It is never to late to start learning if you have the desire and persistence.

I have a wide range of experience in different genres of classical music having played in a variety of ensembles: orchestral to contemporary. In addition to learning the basics of flute playing, I can introduce students to extended techniques on the flute. I also believe that music lessons should be fun, and would LOVE to help you play your favorite music -- whether it's classical music, or your favorite song on the radio. More about my education and experience: I received my Bachelor of Music degree at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in Michigan, and came to NY to pursue my Master of Music at NYU. During my time at GVSU, I played with the New Music Ensemble (NME), in addition to playing in orchestra and wind ensemble. At NYU, I am playing with the NME, Contemporary Music Ensemble (CME), and NYUO1 (orchestra). I can be heard on GVSU NME's latest album "return," and on the GVSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble's album "Under Western Skies." I hope to hear from you soon!
About Hannah
While a member of the GVSU NME, I was a part of a recording project featuring music composed by GVSU composition alumni for the album "return." I have been on mulitple tours with the GVSU NME: 2016 Midwest Tour, 2016 National Parks Tour, and 2018 National Parks Tour. The GVSU NME has also been featured on NPR's Performance Today series. In 2017, I performed at the New Music Gathering with the GVSU NME.
Now at NYU for my Masters degree, I am still active in orchestr
