I actually got these lessons for my Mom who is 86 yrs young. After her list lesson she called me and said she was very glad I picked Diego for her instructor, he has the patience that she'd hope for. They both sang together in Spanish it was awesome and she is very excited to continue her classes with Diego.. So I'm going to bumper her up to 45 min. Instead of 30 min on her next set of classes. Thanks Diego for helping make my Mom's dreams of playing classical guitar come true.... her daughter...Susie

I'm Ahmad a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself guitar at the age of 12. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 and studied music for 15 years receiving my B.M. and M.M in music and audio production at San Francisco State University. I then moved to Los Angeles then studied and trained with John Mayer, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, George Lynch and many others. I have performed hundreds of concerts in the U.S. as well in Europe and the Middle East with Artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Michael Angelo Batio, Ratt, Sammy Hagar, Dokken and many others. I ranked #1 in the Slash Guitar Center competition. I was in the "list of top 5 guitar players ever" according to The Examiner, also picked as one of the best guitarists of 2013 and 2014 consecutively in the Rockwell UnScene magazine, and ranked 3rd in the Steve Vai Sam Ash Best in Shred competition.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, ...

Ahmad is exactly the kind of teacher I've been looking for. I bought a guitar seven years ago thinking I could teach myself how to play (I played other instruments as a kid and figured, how hard could it be?). After several false starts, I never really made any progress until starting to take lessons this year. Ahmad is a terrific teacher - patient and encouraging, but also challenging you to do the things that seem difficult. He really listens to where you're at and what you want to accomplish and develops lessons around that. I already feel like I've made more progress in a few weeks than I had in seven (granted, largely not focused on guitar) years and am really excited to practice and learn more. Highly recommend!
Michael
I've been playing for three years this coming Nov.
I can truly say that there is NO WAY I would have progressed this far without my lessons from Ahmad.
And of course, it's been very enjoyable as well. Both my lesson time and the time spent on my own taking what I have learned and using it.
A+ all the way.
Jenny
I've been taking lessons with Ahmad for a year now. When I started, I was an absolute beginner having just taken a few guitar classes in high school. Now getting my Master's, I've been around A LOT of teachers and it's always clear early on whether you are lucky enough to have a great teacher. Some teachers, although they have excellent credentials, don't have the ability to convey their knowledge to their students in positive and effective ways.

In 6 months I've learned over two dozen chords, chord progression, strumming and playing in rhythm. I've learned my favorite songs from the Foo Fighters to Jenny Lewis. I definitely wouldn't be at this performance level without him. I've gone weeks without practicing and he would still be encouraging, adjusting his pedagogical approach so I can learn better or he would have suggestions for making my practice time more productive.

Ahmad has such enthusiasm for music and teaching and it shows in his playing (iTunes) and instruction. It's really inspiring as it's been a huge motivation for me to keep practicing to become confident enough to create my own music one day I think whether you are a beginner or more experienced, Ahmad has a good intuition of what a student needs to help them progress. The pacing for me is perfect, as I never feel like I have too little or too much to practice each week. Lessons are always light hearted but focused and educational. I'm always looking forward to the next one.

My goal as an instructor is to keep the lessons fresh, fun, interesting, and to ultimately guide the students to better teach themselves as they gain experience and familiarity with the instrument and music. Students can have their lessons catered to the music and styles they wish to pursue. Lessons are tailored to each individual student so that we can build upon their strengths and focus on lessons to improve weaker areas. Students will learn how to build dexterity, use proper technique, and be creative. Every student has different goals, some really want to learn theory and read music. Others may simply want to learn to strum a few chords. Whatever the goal, I can provide the instructions to help the student succeed!

I have been teaching guitar for more than 15 years.
Every student is unique. We all have different ways of learning and retaining information: by rote, from a printed score, by ear, etc... Each student is interviewed and consulted to gain an understanding of how they learn most effectively and to create customized private lessons on the guitar.
For classical guitar, there again are strict technical guidelines to achieve a beautiful tone and effective movement. To supplement my private instruction, I use different method of books and others for technical training and basic music theory as they relate to the guitar.

I went to my first lesson with him without knowing anything about music or the guitar and now I already feel some confidence talking about the subject. He gradually deepens the subject and always makes sure you understood before going forward. I super recommend him!"

"Every time I have a guitar lesson with Nick, it is wonderful. He is very passionate, dedicated, and knowledgeable. He always manages to find interesting pieces, beautiful to listen to but also fun to play. He is open to suggestions and new techniques and makes sure that his students enjoy the class and learn something. He is never hesitant to explain something again or in a different way. He is very kind and always gives the student a voice, encouraging them all along the way. I definitely recommend Nick to anyone wanting to learn guitar at any level or age."

"The reason why I called Jim was to help me with my classical guitar pieces for my ASU audition. I had very little experience in this side and of music and looking for a teacher was important. I hired Jim for an hour every Sunday the past month of January. The way he approached the music pieces and the knowledge he had was very impressive. Jim is also very patient and lets you have control over the lesson and start or suggest were to begin the lecture. I was able to lean a piece and know how to approach classical guitar thanks to Jim. There were somethings that I din't like about some of the lessons, There were times that when Jim was lecturing, he would get side tracked and forget about the topic and not even look at the music for a great majority of the hour, it was defiantly frustrating. Nonetheless, Jim is a great teacher, always appreciated when he stayed over the hour to further discus the piece. For these reasons I have decided to give Jim a four out of five rating."

"Fantastic teacher. I'm retired and most of Ingo's students are above 40, he says. He has some young ones too of course but it's nice to know I'm not the only one. Matter of fact he told me his oldest student is 82 years old. Fantastic! Ingo is extremely knowledgeable about classical music in general and especially the classical guitar. I love the time we spend together and always look forward to my next lesson. Our conversations are as good as the guitar lessons. I encourage all people of all ages to see him for their classical guitar lessons. I have learned a lot and have made very good steady progress since I started. He is the real deal."

"Classical guitar lessons with David

Off and on since my 20s I've fooled around with guitar lessons but never lasted very long. I am 62 now. I relayed this to David and he laid out an organized plan for systematic improvement. But he was very honest with me about the importance of good practice habits. I've been with him almost 5 months and showing progress. His enthusiasm and patience is appreciated. Thanks, Dave."

Should Classical Violinists Learn to Improvise?

A few weeks ago the Washington Post published an article about musician Hannah Hanh and her struggles with improvisation.  As a classical violinist, she hadn't had much training for spontaneity, naturally. The article points out improvisation as a technique that has fallen by the wayside for many performers these days. And it asks an interesting question: Can (and should) classical musicians learn to improvise? We've talked a lot about improvising on the guitar and drums, but where do classi …
