Experienced piano teacher of 15 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of piano skills. I specialize in performance skills and typically use the Alfred Adult or Beginner books.
I have played piano since age 5 when I began playing by ear. I learned to read music much later in my life and have gone on to work in many different capacities as a pianist in the professional world. I have worked with many cabaret artists as musical director, arranger and accompanist. Most notably, Debbie Boily's "Thank You for the Music"a one woman show with me at the piano, recorded live at Ovations in June 2004 Houston, Texas and subsequently performed in France, England and New York.

About Michael Douglas
I maintain very active performing and teaching careers. I have private voice studios on Long Island and in Manhattan and have taught singers and pianists in every genre of music for the last 28 years. I was on the faculty of New York University in the Music and Music Professions Department for 5 years. I was a coach in the Banff Centre's 'Voice through body and movement' workshop. Throughout my career as a vocal coach, I have worked with many cabaret artists as musical director, arranger and accompanist. Most notably, Debbie Boily's "Thank You for the Music"a one woman show with me at the piano, recorded live at Ovations in June 2004 Houston, Texas and subsequently performed in France, England and New York. Most recently, I recorded an opera with Jazz legend Anthony Braxton and a Jazz CD with Fred Ho. I have recorded operas in progress fo
r Atlantic Records and new works of composers on the BMI label. As a performer I won the prestigious Jessie award for "outstanding performance by an actor in a leading role" for my creation of the Marquis in "120 Songs for the Marquis de Sade" in the world premiere co-produced by Modern Baroque Opera and Vancouver New Music. My international debut was in Sweden, singing the lead role of Director in "Kafka's Chimp" by Welsh composer, John Metcalf. Originally from Hawaii I now reside in New York where I garden and raise chickens. Experience

I endeavor to teach you a natural and easy vocal production; to teach you a good solid technique of singing and to help you develop confidence and a polished delivery as a singing artist on and off the stage.

Our work together is an intuitive journey of discovery. Your participation in giving feedback about what you are experiencing during our sessions together as well as what happens in your practice sessions and in your performances is an invaluable tool for us to discover and develop your voice.

Practice: I encourage you to practice 20 minutes a day. An hour is ideal. Singing is like anything that you want to master: it improves with work and investigation. The voice is a curiously individual element of each person and aside from the basics of technique no two voices work the same. Our work together is to develop your unique voice and to discover how it works. Working outside our sessions on a regular basis will help you take ownership of your voice and technique.

Auditions/Performances: Please bring all music that you plan to sing in public to your sessions well in advance of the performance. We need time to investigate the music and its demands together; it will make you more confident and polished in your presentation.

In our Vocal sessions you will learn…
…how to use and blend the entire range of your voice.
… a healthy and free voice management.
1) You want to know what to expect from your vocal instrument on any given note and on any given word.
2) Training makes singing technique second nature; training relieves struggling to get the sound out and allows more focus on the performance.
3) Training allows for more tone coloration, a wider dynamic range, a full use and blending of the registers and greater stamina.
4) Extensive training and practical voice work gives a singer with long-range career aspirations the tools necessary to succeed in an incredibly competitive business. Whether the music is rock, pop, jazz, rhythm and blues, country, musical theater or classical, the trained singer can better meet the demands of a life on the stage as a singer.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated Music Space, music stand, grand piano, three windows

*** Specialties ***
Onstage singing: I have 29 years experience on the operatic, music theater and cabaret theatre stages.

For those of you who are nervous getting started, Michael is the one for you. He made me feel at ease during our first lesson. He also showed me things I could do with my voice right away, which i found shocking. He has been great at boosting my confidence and getting me to that next level. I definitely recommend Michael for anyone who is looking to start singing!!

I have been working with Michael for about 5 years and I find him to be very knowledgeable and patient. I have worked on a variety of music from classical to pop and I am always learning something new. Michael has a lot of passion and emotion when he sings which I really admire. He has helped me improve a great deal. I have seen him work with people of all ages who are at various points in their journey and he knows how to help you become your best. He has helped me improve my range and expression of emotion when I sing. I have worked hard and had fun at the same time. I have become more confident and am willing to take more risks than I used to. When I am working with Michael I feel his undivided attention and he helps me to feel good about myself!

About Caitlin
I am a life-long musician and active performer that moved to Salt Lake City in the summer of 2015 from Chicago, IL. I've been playing music since age 5 and have variously studied piano, cello, and percussion. As a double major in Anthropology and Music at Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), I am drawn to music as a creative cultural phenomenon that resonates between all people and it is for this reason that I love to share, teach, and learn music with others. As I build a studio here in SLC I am excited to share my love of cello and piano and my commitment to making music fun as I work to build students into life-long musicians.

My primary instrument is the cello and I have performance experience as a soloist, as well as orchestral and chamber musician. Upon arriving in Chicago in 2010, I served as Principal Cellist with the Universit
y of Chicago Symphony Orchestra for two years and took gigs as a classical and improvisational chamber musician throughout the city. In addition to my private studio, I was the primary cello instructor at Musical Chairs Studio, Inc. and Ortegan School of Music in Chicago.

I am also a percussionist and teacher with Salt Lake City's Samba Fogo, an afro-Brazilian music and cultural organization. I have studied Brazilian music with some of the major musicians and scholars in the field at California Brazil Camp in Cazadero, California. My training in percussion has brought an entirely new perspective to my musical practice that highlights rhythmic fluency and precision as a foundational element for both left and right hand stringed instrument technique.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am excited to offer lessons to people of all ages and ability levels and have experience teaching within and beyond the Suzuki Method approach.

Lessons are tailored to each student’s experience, individual needs, and most importantly, their goals! Lesson plans will combine interactive rhythmic, singing and listening exercises away from the instrument with music theory and technique-building exercises. The aim is to cultivate musicians with strong rhythmic, aural, and technical foundations and great problem solving skills that will open many doors as you or your child grow into your talent.

I aim to develop well-rounded musicians and performers by focusing on these 5 teaching priorities:
1. Balanced posture of body including instrument and bow hold
2. Balanced tone production or "tonalization"
3. A system of "perfect" or excellent intonation
4. Artistic musicianship in performance
5. Learning notes and bowings to new pieces

While learning notes and bowings is lowest on the priority list; it must be taught first! Fun listening games aid in the development of aural memory as I help students acquire listening skills that will stay with them for years to come and allow them learn to play any tune they can imagine. Once my students can do the note choosing on their own we are free to focus on the other teaching priorities during lesson time.

I also focus on teaching my students how to practice efficiently and use excellent problem solving skills! We want to get the MOST improvement with the LEAST amount of practice time. I like to combine practice at the instrument with games and exercises that can be done away from the instrument to give each student a degree of flexibility for those busy weeks when it's hard to find time to sit down and play. Students leave each lesson with a detailed practice plan that breaks down the difficult question of "what" and "how" to practice into a clear, concise checklist of familiar exercises. Students will also have suggested YouTube videos to watch some of the best musicians of all time and learn from their mastery of technique and musicality!

*** Additional Information***

I also have experience with extended and amplified cello techniques using loop and distortion pedals to layer and explore the variety and versatility of the cello.

*** Travel Equipment ***
2015 Subaru Forester that will get me to your lesson with all my instruments and any other equipment each and every time!

I travel to lessons with a music stand, metronome, and all teaching materials that would be present at a lesson taught in my home or studio.

Wonderful! I haven't seen my son this excited about the future of his music in a very long time. She helped him correct a few issues and listened to what was important to him in continuing his musical journey then made a bit of a plan to continue forward. She even stayed a little longer to help with a piece he will be performing in a couple of weeks. She seems to have a very strong classical base but has expanded into other areas, which is exactly what my son needs at this time.

Caitlin is a committed teacher and life-long learner. Having experienced Caitlin's passion for music through her riveting performances and devoted teaching, I cannot recommend her more. She is a sensitive, communicative and passionate teacher and musician, and one of the best teachers you will find.

From first hand experience of observing her teaching, she masterfully matches the energy of her students. She is able to effectively direct and keep their focus, while fueling their enthusiasm through encouragement. She takes the time to tailor each lesson for each individual, helping them (for example) notate the melody of the Star Wars theme. She's a trained and experience pedagogue, and has attended Suzuki and other teacher trainings.

Caitlin's dedication to her own musical learning is impressive-- she attends and teaches workshops for percussion often, and is actively involved in the SLC music and arts community.

I am accepting new private students for piano lessons. I have extensive experience teaching children and adults of all levels for 29 years. I also conducted many large projects like musicals with children and they enjoy working with me very much. I have a PhD in Music and I'm a professor at Tennessee State University.

I'm very good with little ones. They think we play on the piano while I'm doing my job. My first aim is to welcome them to world of music and share my love of music. This is very important for me as once they feel and understand music, it will have an important place in their lives.

My sessions for ages between 4-6 will be 30 minutes most but I highly advice 1 hour of lessons for older students, teenagers and adults.

About Dr. Tem
“As an artist/educator who has a childlike soul, I both feel and sense life, and reflect this through my art; teaching is the best way to share and convey this understanding to younger generations. “Revealing students’ spirits with the love of music and helping them to use it with passion while making music” is my main philosophy in teaching.”

Connecting the dots and showing how learning scales theory etc enables you to play the contemporary songs you love! I love all styles of music and tailor each lesson to the current knowledge and ability of the student.

About Mallory
My name is Mallory and I just recently moved to Nashville from Los Angeles. I had a roster there of 55 private students of all ages and levels. I am immediately available and I have extensive experience instructing at summer camps, musical theatre, contemporary vocals, songwriting workshops etc. For Private Lessons, I teach a combination of a classical and contemporary approach in all mediums: Piano, Voice, Guitar, Songwriting, Acting, Musical Theater, Audition Prep, Shakespeare etc. Teaching is a passion and a joy so if you're looking for a teacher who cares and will tailor each lesson to the individual student, look no further!

I am always asked if the piano is worth learning. Is it possible to achieve anything? Is it a suitable hobby? Or something which children have to endure like math at school?

There are so many reasons why both adults and children benefit from the study of a musical instrument. Here are ten good reasons to encourage you to learn the piano:

1. Music brings us so much happiness – it really is very central to our lives. It is important to be given the chance to make music because it can give us an emotional and creative outlet.

2. Playing an instrument is an excellent source of pleasure and fulfilment and can provide a deep sense of satisfaction.

3. The piano provides both melody and harmony, therefore it can be played solo without any accompaniment. This is not the case with many other musical instruments (like the clarinet or violin which only produce one line, usually the melody line, so an accompaniment is usually desired.

4. It is possible to make coherent sounds on ...
