Hi! My name is Kristen Reinsch and I am originally from Monterey, CA but am now a Utah native . I am a singer and teacher who loves music more than chocolate and can be found singing in nearly any scenerio! I started my music career in theater at the early age of 8 and haven't stopped singing since. I grew up singing and playing instruments with my family and I encourage my students to do the same. Having been both an instrumentalist and vocalist, I feel it is important to not only know how to sing, but to be able to read music and understand what you are singing. After graduating with a music degree from BYU-I, I feel I have the tools to teach these skills and more.
Through my years as a musician, I have come to appreciate many different kinds of music ranging anywhere from Broadway to opera to Jazz, etc. I feel this gives me the a
bility to cater to my student's individual goals as musicians. One of my goals as a teacher is to help you to learn to sing what you love while giving you the correct foundation to build on. Music is supposed to be fun!
I believe self confidence is extremely important as a vocalist. "Stage fright" is one of the most common things that holds us back from reaching our full potential. Singing with confidence makes you feel great, and sound even better. Sometimes it is all that's missing from a potentially amazing singer. I have helped many students overcome this road block and emerge filled with confidence and self assurance.

*** Lesson Details ***
Did you know that people can hear a smile in your voice? Smiling while singing actually produces a different sound that is pleasant to the ear. I want this experience to be fun for my students. I do, however, believe self discipline is a very important aspect of music. I will encourage students to practice regularly and come prepared to learn. I will usually request that young students bring a recording device so they can take home our lessons and practice. This also allows you to hear how you sound during lessons and reproduce(or improve) that at home.
During my lessons, we will cover topics ranging from technical skills, basic singing principles, ear training, sight-reading, to theoretical knowledge. We will also discuss voice maintenance. That said, I feel it's important to get out of the lessons what you want, so I don't have a set curriculum. I tailor each lesson to the student.
All in all, I am a patient, fun-loving teacher who will work hard to bring out the very best in all my students. I will neither push too hard nor be too lenient as we strive to reach the goals we have set together.

Although I was classically trained and studied opera in college, my younger singing experience largely involved musical theatre. I have always been told I am a natural on stage. I strive to instill that confidence into my students because confidence really is half the battle. I especially love to help students prepare for auditions!

The first lesson of the ten-pack I bought (to start) went very well. Michael was knowledgeable and provided just the kind of feedback I wanted for my solo vocal performances (I was looking for instruction on *acting* in solo vocal performance), giving me immediately useful tips for improving my next performance. It's clear that Michael has a lot to offer me. I look forward to more in the coming lessons.

I instruct aspiring vocalists, actors and musicians the foundation of their craft; but without the art of PERFORMING, I believe that all the technical knowledge in the world will never catapult them into a successful realm. My Academy is predicated on performance, in whatever genre the student aspires to master. About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Be assured that all the technology I need to fulfill the educational needs of my students is but a step away!!

Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. Now we're getting into blocking and developing the physical aspects of a character. I'm learning a great deal and Glenn's patience and encouragement make him the ideal instructor to learn and grow. About Caitlin
I am a life-long musician and active performer that moved to Salt Lake City in the summer of 2015 from Chicago, IL. I've been playing music since age 5 and have variously studied piano, cello, and percussion. As a double major in Anthropology and Music at Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), I am drawn to music as a creative cultural phenomenon that resonates between all people and it is for this reason that I love to share, teach, and learn music with others. As I build a studio here in SLC I am excited to share my love of cello and piano and my commitment to making music fun as I work to build students into life-long musicians.

My primary instrument is the cello and I have performance experience as a soloist, as well as orchestral and chamber musician. Upon arriving in Chicago in 2010, I served as Principal Cellist with the Universit
y of Chicago Symphony Orchestra for two years and took gigs as a classical and improvisational chamber musician throughout the city. In addition to my private studio, I was the primary cello instructor at Musical Chairs Studio, Inc. and Ortegan School of Music in Chicago.

I am also a percussionist and teacher with Salt Lake City's Samba Fogo, an afro-Brazilian music and cultural organization. I have studied Brazilian music with some of the major musicians and scholars in the field at California Brazil Camp in Cazadero, California. My training in percussion has brought an entirely new perspective to my musical practice that highlights rhythmic fluency and precision as a foundational element for both left and right hand stringed instrument technique.

I am excited to offer lessons to people of all ages and ability levels and have experience teaching within and beyond the Suzuki Method approach.

Lessons are tailored to each student’s experience, individual needs, and most importantly, their goals! Lesson plans will combine interactive rhythmic, singing and listening exercises away from the instrument with music theory and technique-building exercises. The aim is to cultivate musicians with strong rhythmic, aural, and technical foundations and great problem solving skills that will open many doors as you or your child grow into your talent.

I aim to develop well-rounded musicians and performers by focusing on these 5 teaching priorities:
1. Balanced posture of body including instrument and bow hold
2. Balanced tone production or "tonalization"
3. A system of "perfect" or excellent intonation
4. Artistic musicianship in performance
5. Learning notes and bowings to new pieces

While learning notes and bowings is lowest on the priority list; it must be taught first! Fun listening games aid in the development of aural memory as I help students acquire listening skills that will stay with them for years to come and allow them learn to play any tune they can imagine. Once my students can do the note choosing on their own we are free to focus on the other teaching priorities during lesson time.

I also focus on teaching my students how to practice efficiently and use excellent problem solving skills! We want to get the MOST improvement with the LEAST amount of practice time. I like to combine practice at the instrument with games and exercises that can be done away from the instrument to give each student a degree of flexibility for those busy weeks when it's hard to find time to sit down and play. Students leave each lesson with a detailed practice plan that breaks down the difficult question of "what" and "how" to practice into a clear, concise checklist of familiar exercises. Students will also have suggested YouTube videos to watch some of the best musicians of all time and learn from their mastery of technique and musicality!

I also have experience with extended and amplified cello techniques using loop and distortion pedals to layer and explore the variety and versatility of the cello.

Wonderful! I haven't seen my son this excited about the future of his music in a very long time. She helped him correct a few issues and listened to what was important to him in continuing his musical journey then made a bit of a plan to continue forward. She even stayed a little longer to help with a piece he will be performing in a couple of weeks. She seems to have a very strong classical base but has expanded into other areas, which is exactly what my son needs at this time.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Justin has been an in demand musician for well over a decade. He received his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from New Jersey City University. During his time in school, he studied with Bud Burridge (Currently playing on Broadway in the production of "If/Then with Idina Menzel), Saturday Night Live's Earl Gardner, Vincent Penzarella (Former NY Philharmonic Member),Joe Magnarelli, Richard Vitale, Grammy Nominee Pete McGuinness and Jazz Historian Bill Kirchner. Prior to studying music in college, Justin attended the Manhattan School of Music Prep Division, where he studied classical/jazz trumpet, theory, improvisation and ensemble performance. Justin showed my 10 year old son how to play the trumpet and did a great job. He was patient, made my son feel comfortable and was able to help him get a better sound by the end of the very first lesson. Jalen does not give high praise easily so we were impressed that he enjoyed learning from him. My mother listened in on some of the lessons and she also said Justin did a great job - friendly personality and great tips on how to play. We highly recommend him.

My personal philosophy of music is to explore and learn as much from my students as I can teach them. For me teaching is like going on an adventure to find something together. I've been able to play all over the world and tour with many different musicians and the thing that made the core of every great performance was the human interaction and communication. I firmly believe that experiencing music and being inquisitive are invaluable to learning how to play music. Studying music is not just about learning the material and regurgitating it, but discovering why a moment of music is cool and examining what about that moment makes it hit you in the right spot. I will be the guide that the student needs when he or she does not know where to go with his or her studies, but I want to encourage students to bring in music they want to learn, or discuss music that they think is cool and use that as a jumping off point into our lessons.

With beginning students, I will lay out the fundamentals, teaching all of the scales, basic chords, key signatures and time signatures, and gradually integrate strategies for reading music. Depending on what the student is interested in learning, I will pull from my pool of repertoire - we could be studying a Bach Invention at the same time as a Billy Joel song. Classical music is great for technique and in many ways textbook for teaching harmony, but I play and love contemporary music, and will teach anything, as long as there is some form of musical knowledge to be gained from the material.
