Career guidance, acting technique, audition prep... After a decade in Hollywood, I know a thing or two about the CRAFT and BUSINESS of acting! I've booked over a DOZEN speaking roles on TV and Film including How to Get Away with Murder, The Young & the Restless, and Jane the Virgin, I appear on national commercials yearly, and I've played voices in award-winning audiobooks. I am also a former NBA dancer & collegiate cheerleader!

A decade ago, I wish I had had someone to help me fill in the missing pieces. What more can I do? What should I do differently?

We will work on material you have, or I'll send you a scene(s) from TV/FILM weekly!

We can cover Comedy, Drama, Improv, Commercials, and even the business side of things like resumes, headshots, website profiles, and representation.

Whether you're an EXPERIENCED actor looking for a refresh, or BRAND NEW; and whether you're interested in just FUN or real CAREER moves, I've got knowledge from real experience to share.

Stephen's a great instructor both from a technical and personable perspective.

He's got a cornucopia of musical knowledge that's evident from how speaks to how he teaches. If you like any film score, chances are he knows how to play it.

Speaking as a beginner, I can say he's been very patient and knows a bunch of exercises and books to learn everything thing from theory to practical pieces to finger exercises.

He provides constructive guidance on what you're doing wrong, and I'm happy to see myself improve under his tutorage. (oh and if you're a sci-fi fan, you'll have a lot in common with him)

Steve makes sure that I stay on task and that I am progressing with my piano skills all while making the lessons fun and enjoyable.

I believe that acting is for everybody! Through acting, we grow our critical thinking abilities and analysis skills, as well as our ability to communicate effectively. Additionally, acting encourages self-confidence, empathy, and creativity. And of course, practicing a form of self-expression helps to blow off steam and decrease stress.

As an actor, I have experience with a variety of styles, including Shakespeare and Improv, and I am familiar with a number of methods, including Stanislavski, Meisner, Chekhov, Hagen, Alexander Technique, and Margolis Method. I believe in mind-body connection and building an actor’s toolbox for independent performers. I have taught actors of all ages and interests.

"Milton J. was on time and a complete professional.

For someone reentering the field of Acting and Musical Theater, Milton J was a perfect choice. He has range in his skill set to address any kind of Music and Theater genres.
I was so impressed, once we really had started on the lesson of what he has in his lesson. Quite a lot to do, that is deep behind the scenes and pre-performance set-up for the student to preset for a chararacter to come out of us. This, I remember from my Professional Acting for Television and Film days was what is called Actors Homework...in LA you are 2 scenes in before my former LA Teacher began to explain the pre-set tech that Milton J came with, right from the start.
Awsome teacher!"

"Miss Ashley is quickly and diligently finding the gaps in my 12yr old daughter's Tap/Jazz training! Ashley is intelligent, energetic, observant and is quick to clarify what she means verbally. She can superbly demonstrate in minute details the technique of any movement being discussed. Refreshing. :) Every minute with her is a learning moment. We've seen in 3 lessons that she can fuse genre or she can approach them from the purist's perspective, and she can review choreography and offer guidance in an age appropriate manner. My daughter is already looking much cleaner in her technique than she, herself, thought possible. Hope. You're in excellent hands with Miss Ashley. For the hesitant, she's no doubt worth the rates she quotes for an individual lesson. If you want to get A to B, this is your teacher. Come to her with an agenda, and she'll help you get through it. My child loves her. Good luck and Keep Dancing!"

Contemporary Dance for Beginners: What Do You Need to Know?

Contemporary dance. You’ve probably seen it on famous dance television shows like So You Think You Can Dance or Dancing with the Stars, but do you actually know what contemporary dance is? With roots in several different styles of dance, like ballet, hip hop, and modern dance, contemporary dance emerged in the mid-1900s and quickly became one of the most popular dance styles in the Western world.  If you are interested in any kind of dance, studying contemporary dance for beginners is a great …

5 Acting Warm Ups & Games to do Before an Audition

Being in the entertainment industry is not much different from being in the sports world. In addition to some natural talent and interest, a huge overlap with both industries is the time spent honing your craft. Of course regular practice is a necessary evil, but come race or audition day, our minds and bodies still need to be prepared for what’s about to happen. Just as we see athletes spending time stretching and warming up before a performance, it’s mandatory that actors warm up before …

Comedy Shows in Chicago: Surviving Your First Improv Audition

So, you’re ready for your first improv audition. You know enough to give gifts, to not ask questions, and, when all else fails, to say, “Yes and…” (You do know all these things, right?) If you’re reading up on improv auditions and comedy shows in Chicago, you’re already on the right track, even if you know nothing. Auditions for improv groups can differ quite a bit from other kinds.
