Excellent Teacher

My daughter started taking lessons with Athena when she was 7. Within weeks she already was playing simple songs & loved practicing etc. Now 2 years later she has shown incredible improvements. Highly recommend Athena.

The Best!

Jon helped me do exactly what I'd been trying to do for years: increase vocal stamina, produce a fuller sound, and improve my overall vocal health. He also helped me find great audition rep for my voice. I can't say enough good things about him!

Has helped me tremendously.

I've taken lessons with Jon for almost 3 years. He's so much fun, and has helped me enormously. Couldn't be happier.
Asuka U. New York, NY

About Asuka

I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians. I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams. As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days. Since I have graduated, I have been performing opera professionally. My career highlights include roles as Pamina (Die Zauberflote) with Opera Manhattan ...

I had an audition for a musical and I had to learn a lot of songs to sing. I took singing lessons from Asuka. This was my first time taking singing lessons in NYC so I was a little nervous but she was so friendly, kind, and fun. Asuka plays the piano very well and her teaching skills are extremely professional. She makes you feel very comfortable. And guess what? I got the lead role in Cats!! I couldn't have done it without her help!

I have been taking classes with Asuka for about 10 months and It has been a wonderful experience. I started of as complete beginner & it is amazing to think about how far I've come with Asuka's help. She allowed me to double up and learn both piano and singing in the same lesson and it has been great. The perfect balance useful critiques & helpful encouragement.

About Amy

I have been a voice teacher for over twenty- five years. My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal as well as vocal training through the Feldekrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I believe we all have something distinctive that can be developed and expressed through the voice. I work to help the student discover their individual and unique sound. I give them tools to gain the ability and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges that students face both in studying voice and performance since I have been a professional singer for many years. Through my personal experience in ...

Dr. Daniel C. New York, NY

About Dr. Daniel

Dr. C. was most recently described by Tim Page with the Washington Post as a “funny, exuberant and enormously likable” Papageno during Summer Opera Theater’s performance of The Magic Flute. Previously, the Post critiqued Daniel in Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia’s Barber of Seville as a “bright and bouncy” Figaro who delivered his lines with “aplomb.” Daniel has performed as a young artist in the Studio Programs of El Paso Opera, Kentucky Opera and Portland Opera. He has sung the roles of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Sid in Albert Herring, Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Jupiter in Orphée aux enfers, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Schaunard in La Boheme, the Clock in L’Enfant et les ...

He is a great teacher and is very patient with someone who had no experience in singing or receiving lessons. My favorite part of each lesson is seeing his genuine excitement when there is improvement or when I hit a note I didn't think I could before. On top of his excellent teaching he is overall a very nice guy and someone who I enjoy talking to before an after each lesson about general things going on in the world and in each other's lives. A great experience overall and I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to be more confident with singing.

To be more clear. The time wasted was on discussing things that were not related t o vocal lessons. Credibility was given to was learned. As a student wanting to grow my vocal abilities I would have liked less chat. Simply wanted more focus on music less focus on anything else. The review is based upon on my personal experience. Dan wasn't a terrible coach, I just wanted just a little more focus on singing.

In response to Eleni's review below: The student's interest in "purely singing" was accompanied with a disregard for my instruction. "Purely singing" is an impossibility in the vocal studio. Concise yet thorough discussions of posture, vowel placement, tongue tension, breath management, intonation, resonance, etc. must occur for the sake of awareness and vocal improvement.

Very Comprehensive

So after my first lesson with Rob I have to say it left a pretty good impression on me. Pretty good vibes coming from him and he makes the material relatively easy to understand. He takes the time to really assess what it is you're aiming for and doesn't try to impose his own values into your musical style. All in all I feel that this is going to be a great teacher student relationship and I'm looking forward to really delving into mastering my guitar with him.
