Elizabeth has been singing since the age of four and had her first solo in church at eleven years old. With over 20 years of private instruction experience, and a Vocal Music Education with a Concentration in Performance degree, Elizabeth is an excellent instructor and performer.
She has directed and performed in off-Broadway musicals such as Grease, Oklahoma, and West Side Story, and has done costume make-up and design for many plays and musicals as well. She has also performed in several opera productions including Pirates of Penzance, Madam Butterfly, and Merry Widow with the San Antonio Opera, and continues to perform and help o
ut as needed with SA Opera and local production companies. Mrs. K performs on a regular basis at local churches and with different community groups. She also is hired on a regular basis as a wedding singer and funeral cantor.

I have been teaching this subject for over 13 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected primarily from the Broadway and West End rep based on the student's learning needs and with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique (enunciation, breathing, pitch/intonation, etc.) and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. I cannot wait to continue lessons with him!

After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 10 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. *** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

In my home studio, I have a full size Cable-Nelson upright piano, as well as two ukuleles, and two guitars (one acoustic-electric and one electric).

The technique that I teach helps so many Broadway singers and Musical Theater performers. Famous Broadway performers such as Barbra Streisand, and Bette Midler used the same technique of "mixing" from the bottom to the top. Broadway singing takes a lot of strength and stamina throughout the entire range of the voice while being able to stay in character. I train the voice to be able to sing effortlessly from the bottom to the top enabling the performer to focus on the acting and meaning of the song instead of worrying about hitting the notes.

I've been teaching voice for 14 years and seen much success. I've had students pass their audition into Berklee School of Music as well as Universities with a more classical focus. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to relax and breath better while singing and as time goes on you'll be able to hear your voice get stronger and your range grow. While my passion is barbershop a capella singing, I love all genres of music, from classical to pop to broadway. About Keturah
I have a deep love for singing and performing. I began singing with my family at the age of 3 and was performing in public beginning at age 4. In 1988, I was introduced to barbershop a capella style harmonies and began singing with my sisters in a quartet. In 2003, I graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelors of Music, choral education emphasis, and French minor.

After graduation, I had the unique opportunity to become a member of the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I sang on numerous recordings, in addition to performing on the weekly radio and television broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word.

In 2013, I became a member of Sweet Adelines International and currently sing with The Woodlands Show Chorus. I recently wrote an article published in the April 2016 Sweet Adelines International magazine, The PitchPipe,
entitled What Makes Warm-Ups So Important. I continue to sing barbershop and compete along with my sisters. We are currently ranked 7th place in the Region.

I love all styles of music, from barbershop to pop to classical. My students also have varying interests in music. In my lessons, you select the music you want to improve on.

During our first lesson, I will have you sing through some music exercises to determine your current range and abilities. My motto is: "It doesn't matter where you start as long as you are improving!" Then you will be asked to sing a piece of a song. We will also discuss your goals and motivations. I am here for you! I want you to see growth immediately, so we will mold each lesson to the skills and techniques you need.

Students will receive a free transcription of vocal warm-ups and exercises for developing sight-reading, if this is a desired goal.

As a musician with twenty-three years of experience, I find that having a desire to learn and dedicated practice is all that is needed to improve your ability. In lesson, I take a classical approach to teaching voice and piano. I have been teaching privately for four years and enjoy teaching genres including contemporary, jazz, opera, and broadway.
I am a soprano with a BA in music from California State University Stanislaus. I have preformed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Townsend Opera Players, Modesto Symphony Chorus, and Northstar Community Opera.

Ally gave my daughter piano lessons and was fantastic! My daughter started when she was 7 and quite unsure of herself. Ally was very patient and encouraging, helping my daughter grow in her musical talent as well as her confidence outside the studio. Ally's music book collection covers both classical and pop music which helped to keep my daughter engaged. I would recommend her to anyone!

As someone who hasn't been very comfortable singing, Ally has been absolutely wonderful in getting me to be more comfortable with my range. She is very knowledgeable about quality techniques to not only not strain my voice but to have clarity and intonation. She is very patient, nice, but also a perfectionist, which is great because I do not want mediocrity.

She has prepared me for audition pieces and continues to follow up on each one to build my repertoire.

Highly recommend for any one who is seeking to be more comfortable with their voice or help with auditions.

Hi!
I'm a graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio and have been singing professionally around the world for 10 years now.
Singing is a very special, personal experience. It takes time and patience to discover your own instrument and feel confident with it.
I want to help amateur and profesional artists in Houston to learn about their voice and the art of telling stories with songs.
We will work on technique, breathing, interpretation, languages, acting, and anything you want to work on in particular, always in a relaxed, possitive and productive space.

About Federico
Argentinian bass-baritone Federico, who “sings with a deep-voiced authority” (Opera News) is a graduate of the prestigious Houston Grand Opera Studio, was previously a member of the Opera Studio of Teatro Argentino de La Plata, and a student at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.

This season, amongst other engagements, he will perform the role of Achilla in Julius Caesar with Houston Grand Opera. He will also perform the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro with Palm Beach Opera and make his debut with the Philladelphia Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

In the 2016/17 season, Federico performed Dr. Dulcamara in Houston Grand Opera’s production of L’Elisir d’Amore, conducted by Bradley Moore. Other performances included Brander in The Damnation of Faust with Aspen Music Festival conducted by Mae
stro Robert Spano, Timur in Turandot with the Des Moines Metro Opera and Mr. Flint in Billy Budd with the same company, both conducted by Maestro David Neely.

In previous seasons, Federico performed the role of Thomas Betterton in the world premiere of Carlisle Floyd’s Prince of Players conducted by Patrick Summers, Angelotti in Tosca, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, the King in The Little Prince, the cover of the title role and Antonio in The Marriage of Figaro, and selected scenes as Tiridate in Radamisto and Figaro, all at Houston Grand Opera. At the Auditorio Sony Madrid, the artist performed the roles of Leporello in Don Giovanni, the title role in Don Pasquale and Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola. While at the Opera Studio of Teatro Argentino de La Plata, Federico performed Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Antonio in Il viaggio a Reims, El Hombre Mayor in Gandini’s contemporary opera La ciudad ausente, Johann in Werther, Narrator in Rota’s I due timidi, Plutone in Il ballo dell’ingrate, and Tempo in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria.

On the concert and recital stage, Federico has performed in a concert tour of Spain, organized by the Fundación Albéniz, a Christmas concert for the Royal Family of Spain at the Palacio Real de Madrid, as well as concerts with the Nürnberger Symphoniker in Nürnberg and Zindorf. Born in Buenos Aires, Federico received 3rd prize in the Eleanor McCollum Competition at the Houston Grand Opera, and was named “Outstanding Student” by Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain.

A voice teacher for over thirty-five years, I concentrate on healthy vocal production, breath support, and tension issues. My students, from beginners to Metropolitan Opera professionals, have studied opera, musical theater, gospel, country, and pop. For 26 years, I directed the Musical Theater and Opera programs at HCC-Northwest College.

A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, my Master of Music degree is in Vocal Performance and Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. I have worked as musical director/conductor or collaborative pianist with Houston Grand Opera, Opera in the Heights, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, American Institute of Musical Studies, Graz , Austria, Harrower Opera Festival, and EaDo Opera. Musical theater credits include TUTS (Theater Under The Stars), Stageworks, Queensbury Theater, and Upstage Theater, among others. My performance repertoire includes over 60 operas and musicals.

About Lucy
I have over 35 years experience teaching piano and voice. I've worked with students from beginners to professionals. My Bachelor's Degree is in Piano Performance and my Master's Degree is in Vocal Performance. For 26 years I taught at HCC Northwest College. Since then I have taught for Houston Piano Company and Lone Star College CyFair, in addition to maintaining my home private studio.

I have worked as a collaborative pianist with Houston Grand Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, The Mississippi Opera, Opera in the Ozarks! Opera in the Heights, Harrower Opera Festival, and American institute of Musical Studies, Graz, Austria.

Each lesson consists of work on technical aspects (e.g., scales, Hanon exercises) relative to the student's performance experience. For beginners, I use the Alfred method books, choice depending on age of stud
ent. For intermediate or advanced students, I choose repertoire from the main musical eras including compete such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy.

I have a unique crossover background, In having degrees and performance experience in both voice and piano. I have worked in the vocal studios of over thirty internationally known vocal teachers as an accompanist. This has given me a broad "bag of tricks" from which to draw to helps students. Furthermore I have friends across the opera world to call on for help in advancing my students' careers. My work with many opera companies also helps with this.

My extensive experience as a church musician gives me a unique view to what is needed to be successful in this arena. I have been the church pianist at Second Baptist Church, Chapelwood Methodist Church, First Methodist Church, Rose Hill Methodist Church, Good Shepherd Methodist Church, plus many others through the years.
