I substituted for 15 years part-time and tutored for 5 years. I can tutor adolescent to elderly, in school or not (privately).
I do have a Background Check through my Membership and certification as a Notary Signing Agent with NNA (see below).
I provide classical instruction in portraiture, still life and landscape in your studio or mine. In this traditional approach to drawing and painting, what will be taught and focused upon are perspective, value and composition in order for the student to develop strong visual language skills. The program of study begins with a specific focus on drawing, since drawing is the foundation upon which all great traditional art is built. Throughout this training, emphasis will be placed on accuracy, or more specifically, seeing and rendering correctly such things as line quality, hard and soft edges, proportion, positive and negative space through abstract form and the use of the full range of values.
I'm a graduate of Dean College in Franklin, MA and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where I majored in art history and studio art with a focus on portrait painting and illustration. I continued further study at the Andeeva Portrait Academy in Sante Fe New Mexico, the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art in Van Nuys, CA and the Sadie Valerie Atelier in San Francisco.
The program of study for drawing will include: Demonstration of one, two and three point perspective, creating the nine step value scale, cast drawing in charcoal, the still life in charcoal and drawing the portrait. The topic of composition will also be covered. I’ve done commissioned work for Audi, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the American Repertory Theater, the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Kessler Financial Ser
vices, Harvard Business School Publishing, Shilo Baptist Church, the Chelsea Soldiers Home and others. Samples of my work are available to view in my profile. Additional samples are available upon request.
Do you feel you cannot create? And want to paint? Contact me and we can start from the basics...supplies, colors, subject, and technique. We would start small. In several lessons have one or many paintings done. One lesson might be a chance to ask questions about supplies you already own...as a gift...or sitting around for years. The student walks away with skills and feeling of confidence to proceed on ones own...well worth the effort. Sincerely, Janet

I took painting lessons about 10 years ago and haven’t done anything since. I brought a 1/2 finished painting. Maggie was great helping me set up and seeing where I was and what I remembered. Then showed me some techniques to help get me going. I’m looking forward to our next lesson.

Maggie is an exceptional teacher who has her classroom management skills down to a tee. It’s amazing to watch her command a classroom full of children while remaining sweet and never losing her cool. She was a great mentor and I learned a lot about art education from her!

I’ve been painting with oils for almost three decades, and drawing for as long as I can remember. I’ve been a full time fine artist for over a decade now. I’ve been doing guest demos and teaching private and group lessons for many years, for various subject matter and age groups.
After graduating from Tyler School of Art at Temple University with a major in Painting, I had jobs making signs by hand, doing T-shirt designs, in a graphic design studio with clients like M&M Mars, Claritin and Revlon. As a freelance artist, I did logos, movie poster illustration, album art and packaging design, and I even scored and created sound effects for some short films. Yes, I play keyboard as well.
For my fine art, I’ve worked in many different mediums including watercolor, acrylics, digital, ceramics, sculpture, metal casting and photography, but pa
inting with oils and drawing are my most preferred ways of creating. I’ve painted and drawn many different kinds of subjects, but the figure is my favorite. I have worked from photo reference and from life (something right in front of me) as well as from my imagination; the range of styles that I have used have gone from photorealism all the way to cartoons. I am proficient in Photoshop, which I currently use often to create composite images as reference for my paintings. My paintings have been displayed in many shows across the country, and have sold internationally.

I am a professional artist primarily in th medium of pen and ink on paper. I have certifications in painting sculpting, throwing and drawing. The last 7 years has been focused on pen and ink as well as acrylic painting.
I am knowledgeable not only of my particular style but also of art in general 2-D and 3-D expressions as well as abstract, realism and expressionism.
My students can expect guidance in techniques and tricks of the trade combined with exploration into their own specific style of art. Just as I have done. Using the discoveries of previous artists to explore the specific way you do art.
I have been expressing myself in some sort of art form for the last 7 years professionally and before that as an amateur and beginner. I have always been drawing but I went though a time when I was doing lots of three dimensional art wor
