About Lance
Whether it’s to increase your confidence at karaoke night or to prepare for your first on stage performance, I’m very interested in helping you improve your singing. Ever been told that you’re "a little pitchy," or that you “just need to give it more support?” Tips like these often leave people frustrated because they don’t actually give anyone a plan for improvement. In my lessons we will focus on specific issues, and make sure you have a great plan for clear, noticeable improvement of your singing abilities.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide some music literature with lessons and customized exercises to each student with lessons. I would expect students to acquire their own literature additionally, and to purchase copies of any pedagogical book I may be using.

*** Specialties ***
Classical singing and opera voice lessons
are my primary specialty, and they were the focus of my BM and MM degrees. I also have some experience in Jazz singing and saxophone. I encourage a knowledge of music theory in a students interpretation of a piece of literature, which makes me different from many other instructors. I believe this makes for a more well-rounded musician.

I am very pleased taking class of saxophone with Michael. This was my third lesson with him. Guess what! I can play a Happy Birth song by memory. He takes seriously to teach me how to read the music and how to recognize major scales. I look forward to learning more from him. I recommend if someone wants to take saxophone lesson, please pick Mike.

About Jesse
*Disclaimer*
I'm currently not taking beginner students on voice/singing, guitar, bass, drums, piano, and ukulele. I highly recommend my studio partners Melissa though. Please check out her profile:

My Background

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar cla
sses in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.

Philosophy of Learning

Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.

I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Once or twice a year we'll also stage a larger event off site for more individual students and bands classes to perform.
Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.

Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)

*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

My studio is equipped with:

*Music Stands

*A P.A. System

*Vocal and instrument microphones

*Guitars, Basses, Ukulele, Banjos, etc

*Two guitar amps and a bass amp

*Various percussion including a fully equipped acoustic drum set

*A Roland V-Drums electronic drum set

*An electric piano console and Yamaha organ

*A MicroKorg Synthesizer

*A Tuba, Trombone, Cornet, Saxophone, and Flute

*An extensive physical and virtual music library

*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to

*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype

I have been playing various woodwind instruments for almost my entire life. I focus on tone, intonation (staying in tune), and the confidence needed to be a strong melodic player. I teach all of the various saxes including soprano, alto, tenor, and bari.

About Frankie
In addition to being a Berklee College of Music Graduate, I have a Masters in Music Education, and currently completing my Doctorate in Music Education from Boston University, I have been playing for over 30 years.

Lessons are written and tailored to you. I use music, printouts, and instructional material to make sure you progress as you should.

I have spots available every day of the week, so I'm confident that we can find something that works for both of us.

I know that learning to play any style of music whether it be Jazz, Blues, Soul, Motown, Funk, or Rock is a challenge, but with help from an experienced educator, your instrument becomes a rewarding lifelong enjoyment.

Please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to speak with you regarding any questions you may have.

Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

A woodwind player since age 10, Thomas has experience as a performer and teacher. His previous education has included methodology classes on teaching specific instruments, and he is available to teach intermediate and beginning saxophone lessons.

About Thomas
Piano, woodwinds, trumpet, composition
Chords, sight-reading, theory, jazz, classical, and pop

No one ever regrets learning an instrument… yet many grow old wishing they had taken music lessons! A talent they’ll be able to develop their entire life, your children will thank you for giving them the chance to learn music. And bonus points for you: after just a couple years, you’ll have free entertainment every Christmas!

Or maybe YOU’RE the one that wishes to learn! It is never too late to begin learning an instrument. Everybody has the ability, and if you’re determined and interested, there’s nothing stopping us from achieving this very special goal. (Interested in learning to compose? Scroll to the bottom to learn more.)

Everybody learns differently, and everybody likes different things. Whether it’s improvising or singing alon
gside a song you love or reading through a classical concerto, I’ll help prepare you or your child to tackle a wide variety of styles, without missing out on any of the basics that turn good players into phenomenal musicians. We all know it’s not about being the best. It’s about having fun, and playing music well is definitely fun. Music lessons include:

1. Building a really strong foundation so it's easy to interpret or understand any part, and to play it with the right amount of practice.

2. Learning to sight-read music, so you can play it well as soon as possible.

3. Learning how to improvise (make-up) music, learn music by ear, and to understand and create chords, which lets you play music in different ways.

4. Play different styles from classical to jazz to popular music.

5. Learning how to practice efficiently so you can learn music as fast as possible.

6. Composing our own original music.

Practice makes perfect! Learning an instrument helps build self-confidence and discipline. If your child’s bored, distracted, or just needs a constructive hobby, music is a great place to get them interested in something that will help them feel better about themselves, and the effects will be felt across everything else they do, through better studying habits to a more patient, diligent work ethic.

It’s also relaxing! Stressed about work? Need an escape? Everybody has the power to learn an instrument. Seriously, there’s no such thing as “talent.” Just start lessons and get practicing! It really is that simple, and I’ll guide you through every step of the way.

I have a diverse background teaching students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to retirees alike, customizing what we learn to the individual student. We’ll learn how to read music just as easily as you read words; improvise and compose music of our own; and feel good playing any style: classical, jazz, rock, and all. My experience as a working musician in films, musical theater, and pop music, as well as classical concert music, allows me to appreciate and teach styles that many other instructors overlook, and I know full well that learning an instrument is not about becoming a professional; it’s about being able to connect to others or oneself through music… and also to just have fun! There’s no need to learn music we don’t like! It’s not about stuffing Beethoven into your kids’ ears… we just want to make music, be that Beethoven or Billy Joel.

Learning an instrument is one of those few skills that will genuinely last you your whole life. I don’t want to sugarcoat it: it takes time to learn an instrument. It takes practice, and sometimes it’s frustrating. But the results are well worth it.

Now get out there and make some music! But start by signing up for lessons. I can’t wait to get started!

---

“What’s that chord?” “Why does all my music sound the same?” “How do I fix this voicing?” “I just can’t get it out of my head!” …sound familiar? You’ve probably hit a rut. Or maybe you’re just starting out. Either way, you want your music to sound new, exciting, and to come out exactly how you hear it in your head. Yes… you CAN learn to compose music, you CAN learn to be more creative, and you CAN learn to share your sound with the world.

Film music, classical, jazz… whatever your interest, all music comes from the same place, and by learning a handful of basic concepts, you can apply these to whatever style you’re trying to write. Learning to emulate another musician involves knowing what they’re doing. Learning to create a groundbreaking sound requires that you know what’s already been done, and how to achieve it. Step by step, we’ll work our way there.

We’ll learn how to write cool, interesting chord progressions, how to write beautiful melodies, and how to voice chords. We’ll learn how to control the mood of our music, from making it sound relaxed to adding tension wherever we want. Maybe you’re trying to write for an orchestra, or just a small band. By learning the basics, you can then easily break away from what’s been done and come up with something truly new… the goal of any aspiring composer!

Stephen has been my son's sax teacher for a year. I was reluctant to look for a teacher online, but was frustrated and unsuccessful in finding one through traditional methods. Stephen far exceeded my expectations. Stephen enhanced and furthered my son's musical education, tailoring lessons and including the music my son was eager to learn. The music director at school asked where my son was taking lessons because she could hear the difference when he played, saying that his individual practice time at school was focused and directed in a meaningful way.

Stephen also guided my son through the college audition process, providing targeted feedback on everything from music selections to proper preparation, while offering realistic insight into the process. Stephen has been a fantastic influence and I am most grateful.

I have had such an excellent experience with my saxophone teacher, Stephen. He is extremely patient, always encouraging and is very easy to work with.
Stephen has made may alterations to his teaching style to accommodate my visual impairment, enabling me to continually learn music in a most rewarding fashion.
I am learning how to read music, play by ear and practice songs of my choosing as well as standard practice lessons.

I am grateful to have such a professional, patient and understanding teacher who is excited about music and teaching it.

I have to recommend taking lessons with him as a beginner and as an advanced skilled individual looking to brush up on your skills

I am excited at the beginning and end of every lesson. I walk out with something to look forward to practicing and something to come back to my lesson to show.

He has a technical approach that I like and is prepared to discuss music theory to help broaden my understanding! You will also like his personality!!

You'll be playing songs in no time! With over eight years of teaching experience with students of all ages, I know how to tailor your experience to you or your child's goals and experience level. I believe that we get the most joy from playing our instrument by developing strong fundamentals so that new musical challenges are enlightening rather than frustrating.

About Julian
I began teaching in-home lessons to K-12 and adult students in 2010. Since then I have:
1) Taught thousands of fun and engaging lessons to over 150 students
2) Helped high school students attain successful college music auditions
3) Had students on saxophone AND clarinet place successfully in All-State and All-County Honors Bands and Gifted and Talented Ensembles

Whether your student is excelling and wants new musical challenges to stay engaged or you think they could enjoy music but are struggling to keep up, I have experience with that situation. I am a passionate performer myself, and I released my debut jazz album in early 2018. I truly believe that music is one of the greatest sources of joy in the world.

I highly recommend Julian as a saxophone teacher. My son started playing saxophone and taking lessons with Julian three years ago, when my son was 9 years old. Julian is patient with my son and has built a good rapport with him. Julian has always encouraged him to try his best and to not be discouraged when he makes mistakes, and that has made my son comfortable with Julian and confident enough to push himself. Also, Julian is reliable and punctual, and is good at communicating through text and email.

Lets have some fun learning the piano shall we?

When you come into my music studio, we keep things simple, enjoyable and definitely a lot of fun (Isn't that some of the reason you signed up for the lesson anyway, right!?)

I have been in music education for 10 years and a musician for a lot longer. I will teach not only the music notes but how to express your self through "sound exploration".

I get exited just talking about it!

Interested?...Get ready!

About Joshua
I graduated from Tennessee  State University with a Bachelors of Music, concentration music education. I receive my Masters of Education and Education Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. I have spent the past 10 years teaching instrumental and vocal music in middle and elementary public school. Alongside music education, I studied saxophone under professional saxophonist,  Jimmy Bowland. I  have had the opportunity to travel aboard, performing with the "Nashville Aces" at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Umbria, Italy in 2007 and even meet the great Sonny Rollins.

From 2008 to 2010 I performed saxophone within the stage band of "Alvin Moore Entertainment" stage production company and  which produced recorded stage play, "A Mother's Prayer" featuring Johnny Gill, Robin Givens, Shirley Murdock and Jermaine Crawford which h
as aired  numerous times on B.E.T. as well as stages in and around the southeast.

Since 2013 I have been performing  within the funk band,  "Function with a C", playing various weddings, corporate gathering and other social events and have recorded our band album, "F6" in 2016. Currently I am working on my album entitled "Sacred Spaces" and building recording studio.

Currently I am band leader and lead Saxophonist within the instrumental group "Sacred Spaces"...returning to the place that bring you back to life" and building my own recording studio.

Music is Life..
I find music not only something to be played and enjoyed, but a means to open my "hearing" to people and places. I believe everything makes music, however not everyone hears it. It is through this medium, that one "Hears" better. I have also learned that when I learn or study music, I am also learn and study life. As a teacher, I like to share these "life music" nuggets with my students when they pop during lesson.  While I do not consider my self a counselor or life coach, I  believe that good teachers care not only teach the subject but also tie it in to the bigger picture.

My desire is that all student i teach learn, grow and be inspired by music.  Music has the power to  inspire creativity, empower confidence, breaking down barriers and building connections.  As a musician and music instructor, my hope is that any student I teach would be able to experience all of these qualities.
