Teaching practical classical tips to develop the ear and the voice in order to perform various popular styles of music.
I started playing recognizable melodies on the piano at 18 months old. At that time I was told that I even had perfect pitch. By age 5, my mother started giving me classical, gospel, and improvisational lessons. I was one of her 50 students until my senior year in high school. Through elementary, junior high, and high school, I received a lot of performance experience from school marching/concert bands, choirs, church choirs, piano concerts, band/choral conducting, and composing.
I received my BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington; through college and to the present, I have received over 25 years of performing/directing experience from overseeing two mega-church music ministries. At these ministries, I served as the department head, responsible for lead piano, directing, arranging, worship leading, and departmen
I have produced 10 personal instrumental projects, and I have produced and recorded over 40 projects for other local, regional, and international artists. I currently travel with national, jazz, recording saxophonist, Joseph Vincelli, and my personal band Zamar. We have performed with a number of acts from Kirk Franklin, Darren Rahn, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Fred Hammond, and many more.
As an instructor, I have been blessed with an ability to be relatable, relevant, musical, creative, fun, and engaging. I understand the language of music as a performer, and instructor, but most importantly, I value the ability to help the student find their own path of learning the joy of making music vocally and instrumentally. With over 18 years of private teaching experience and 30 years of group experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge on how to be instructive and personal with the young or older beginner, intermediate and even advanced players. Let's grow together musically.
*** Lesson Details *** My teaching style is very laid back, although goal-oriented. We have fun while seeing progress. For piano, I typically use the Alfred Series "Alfred Basics 1 - 6" or the Adult All-in-One for the Older Beginner. In the first 3 - 6 months, one will become familiar with basis technics and concepts behind creating music. These concepts will be the foundation behind learning how to read music, play by ear, and create your own songs in any style.
We would move a little faster for the older beginner and work through the Alfred's All in One in conjunction with introducing my 5 steps to performance for any popular style. These steps have been very valuable for those that are wanting to play piano, guitar, bass, or even sing.
For vocalist, I work through Estelle Liebling, Vocal Course, Alfred Piano (as an instrumental reference) and a number of practical performance techniques that I have gained over the years to sing in more of a pop, jazz, gospel setting. We will work on performance techniques and develop the ear to gain confidence to perform in various popular settings. I will also introduce creative ways to make up original music using basic theory and ear training.

Joel was professional, friendly, and interested in my goals. Joel had patience with my being nervous yet making me comfortable. I left feeling energized and positive that my time and money are not being wasted. He also explained our exercises in a way that I could understand.. thank you Joel. looking forward to next week...
February 4, 2019
Joel is very knowledgeable, practical, and capable to teach at any level. As a graduate music student, I have gained so much from his lessons than in class.
December 14, 2018
Thank you Joel. I am looking forward to my next session. I left very inspired.
Voice is my primary instrument. I've studied vocal performance for 12 years now, singing everything from Broadway musicals, to jazz, and opera. Aside from my performing experience, I've also carefully studied the anatomy and physics of singing well, and how to get that knowledge across clearly in a one-on-one session. In these lessons, I guarantee that you will notice improvements quickly.
Whether it’s to increase your confidence at karaoke night or to prepare for your first on stage performance, I’m very interested in helping you improve your singing. Ever been told that you’re "a little pitchy," or that you “just need to give it more support?” Tips like these often leave people frustrated because they don’t actually give anyone a plan for improvement. In my lessons we will focus on specific issues, and make sure you have a great plan for clear, noticeable improvement of your singing abilities.
*** Travel Equipment *** I would provide some music literature with lessons and customized exercises to each student with lessons. I would expect students to acquire their own literature additionally, and to purchase copies of any pedagogical book I may be using.
*** Specialties *** Classical singing and opera voice lessons
are my primary specialty, and they were the focus of my BM and MM degrees. I also have some experience in Jazz singing and saxophone. I encourage a knowledge of music theory in a students interpretation of a piece of literature, which makes me different from many other instructors. I believe this makes for a more well-rounded musician.
Lance is a remarkably effective teacher. I am a beginner at singing and found lessons with him to be very valuable. He does a great job of intently listening to your current abilities and knowing exactly what drills and exercises will be most helpful to you in order to improve quickly. He is very invested in you meeting your goals. I would highly recommend taking lessons with Lance!
July 15, 2019
I came in with no background knowledge of singing, and Lance provided me with a great foundation to get started. He took time to print me off practice sheets, and even would send me videos to help my understanding. I would strongly recommend Lance to anyone that has a desire to improve their singing.

I have to say that Michael is the best music teacher I ever had. and I have studied music for a long time. He is patient, thoughtful and his music skills are outstanding I recommended him as the best.

My Reading and Phonics lessons are made to dazzle and awe your child into an understanding of letters, sounds, and the written page with several learning enrichment programs as well as numerous supplemental material. I also love to work with teachers when possible and use placement tests to determine where to start and periodically to know how to continue. (The kids just think they are games).
All of my lessons are designed to foster a love for reading, math or music and focus on your reading and Phonics goals or your dream in the music world as well as build knowledge and expertise for all three!

Beginner? We can get you started on the right foot! I have experience with tweens, teens, adult beginners, seniors and children of all ages. I have special curriculum and activities that enhance interest, reduce stress and help you to maintain what you learn.
Pre-schoolers have a curriculum all their own that teaches phonics, reading or music through lovable animal characters with games on tablet, computer and other resources that teach, reinforce and excite their hearts to learn and retain what they learn.
Does your child have some knowledge but just has not excelled in math, phonics or reading? We can tailor lessons for just that.
Maybe you have some music knowledge but just can't play or sing that special song? We can tailor lessons for that, too!
Maybe your child knows letters and sounds but just hasn't made the leap to reading? We can tailor the lessons to get your child from point B to Z! Perhaps math is a dirty word or causes your child to cringe or have great anxiety! I would love to help them to enjoy math instead of feeling annoyed at math.
Can you read music but not play on your own? Can you play by ear and not read music? I have experience bridging the gaps.
Is your dream to become a Soloist, harmonizer or karaoke star? Accompany yourself or others or just play for fun? Then why not you and I embark on that exciting journey together!
Is your dream just for your child to be able to read at grade level or above? I will give it my all for them to do so.

Does your Church only do Contemporary Christian? We can do Contemporary Christian Lessons.
Want to learn it all?
Worship to Him and service to others is the reason that I do what I do!
Try us! You'll be glad you did!!!!
*** Lesson Details *** I am a very laid back instructor, though the classes are very well structured.
Usually, we progress with a chosen curriculum according to the student's or parent's vision and initial overview during the 1st few classes. However, all curriculums are supplemented to enhance student performance and comprehension. Our supplemental material is used to go swifter for material that you grasp well and understand, and slower with more repetition for that that you need more practice, without being monotonous. It is also used to provide appropriate but exciting reinforcement of all material to ensure that material is retained.
We are forever updating material and also incorporate games and enhanced activities to keep lessons interesting and refreshing as well!
I also have experience in teaching autistic, ADD, ADHD and those with varying degrees of brain damage.

The class was wonderful, my daughter loved it. She was so excited to get home to practice. I am so happy We found Barbara.
October 7, 2018
Ms. Barbara had a very positive attitude and worked well with my son. I would definitely recommend her if you need someone who gives good advice on song choices that match the singing style of the student.
We shall begin with developing strength in your diaphragm then diaphragmatic breathing and techniques (you will need to practice at home after lessons). Then on to studying from a combination of manuals while using your favorite songs to make improvements. I will teach you how to use a microphone once you show improvement.
Please read "About You" section to learn the recent student success stories.
About Susan B.
After 30+ years of professional musicianship spanning across two continents (North America and Europe) with original published songs available digitally (on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc.) and two CDs on the market (a third still in production) I retired from "performing" in 2010 and started teaching classical, blues, jazz and pop piano; piano/voice, classical guitar, pop and/or rock guitar/voice, songwriting and theory. My motto: From the movie, Beethoven Lives Upstairs ... "Great musicians need the spirit of a gypsy; the discipline of a soldier!"
I especially enjoy teaching families with multiple siblings (as young as four - degreed in Family and Child Development: Social Services and Early Childhood Education) and can get any combination of two or more people playing music together (please see reviews). Many of my current middle
school Takelessons students started with me when they were four and five and now perform regularly in student showcases, school talent shows and in church. I have helped five students gain entry into the Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy.
If your young child is showing signs of high musical intelligence (sings a lot, keeps good rhythm, or is attracted to an instrument), I would be very interested in talking with you to get them a good start in musical training and education.
Lessons are recurring, once per week - it is extremely important to develop the brain, nervous system, fine motor skills simultaneously using repetitive movements, patterns, and momentum. I host annual student showcases at independent senior centers, most students grow and love these experiences … the people there are great and it helps build students’ confidence levels.
I wrote my first song at 17 and helped work my way through college playing my original music and covers as solo artist in coffee shops in Manhattan KS and at KSU’s student union. As songwriter and founding member of “Progressive Wood” (a KSU prominent band), we performed at campus parties, state fairs and festivals as I earned my bachelors degree.
Starting 2005, I worked many years as one of Arlington ISD's favored substitute teacher, teaching general elementary music classes, middle and high school orchestra, band, and choir. I was asked to create and teach a beginning songwriting class for elementary students and from the very first day had kids K-6 behaving in the palm of my hand. Some of those students eventually recorded their own original songs in professional studios. Current students are composing their own songs with plans to schedule recording sessions in professional grade studios here in DFW. One guitar student in the 5th grade is planning a small business playing classical guitar at weddings (first wedding performance coming up June 22).
If you already know an instrument and want to take combination lessons - Voice/Piano or Voice/Guitar and/or composition, or brush up on childhood learned skills, I am an motivator!, I LOVE teaching people how to recognize and use creative energy. NOTE After 30 singing lessons, one of my adult students signed with eight grammy-award winning LA music producer for his first EP - left a successful career in law and started his tour on the East Coast after releasing his first digital composition on CD. Another adult female student recently released her first EP in 2018!
If you are the creative type and wish to compose your own music or need help with production, I teach not only composition … also arranging, music production, notation, business organization and legal aspects of copyrights and international distribution (experienced paralegal in entertainment law). I also am the founder and owner of SBT Records, and Little Road Publishing Company.
My daughter has been under the wonderful care of Ms. Taylor for over 2 years now and she has learned and grown tremendously under her care. From not knowing how to read notes or any finger placements, to reading notes and switching things up ( different tempos) while playing the piano on her own.
Ms. Taylor pays attention to detail and is very easy going that makes it easy for my daughter to learn. She is very compassionate. She has also taught her breathing techniques along with voice training. She keeps her grounded and motivated. My daughter has a passion for music and is in the best possible hands. She is very flexible and accommodating!
Thank you so much for everything you do to help her flourish!!
We LOVE and APPRECIATE YOU!!

Ms Taylor she are the greatest ever, she stick with what she are teaching you slow going but accurate, ooh yes she are a real teacher (the best yet)

Susan is a excellent teacher, she has shown great patience and allows you to learn at your own pace. For an adult student with very little childhood training and having taken lessons once before as an adult she has done a masterful job learning what I want to learn and has been very open minded on which direction to go in as far as my lessons go. I am amazed that she has pulled some thoughts and ideas out of me that I didn't realize I had and has taught me patience in learning the piano.
If you are an adult student wanting to learn the piano or advance in piano Susan is the perfect teacher, she is flexible and takes the time to learn what your individual goals are in the piano. She has changed courses with my learning based on my interests, and for that I am thankful. If you are looking for a very talented music teacher (especially if you have done lessons before and have been thinking of giving it one last try) I would highly recommend Susan as the person to work with. 5 stars all the way!!

Group and individual lessons available; basics for healthy singing, choral and solo singing
Hillary C. has been singing since joining the Sunrise Singers in elementary school. While singing in various choral groups, she also took private lessons to develop proper vocal technique. Her own students will appreciate the classical training she received as well as musical theater styles she has learned over the years.
At Washington and Lee University, Hillary participated in University Chorus, Chamber Singers, an a cappella group, and performed in musicals on stage. She studied music history, performance, and theory. Hillary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Vocal Production and received the Choral Award upon graduation. She has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, Dallas Symphony Chorus, and Incarnation church choir.
Hillary also studied piano for seven years during which time she won theory awards and was the star
pupil of her studio. She recently began a piano pedagogy class for continuing education credit.
Students under Hillary's tutelage can expect to gain an appreciation for classic works, learn basic music theory and ear training, and understand proper keyboard or vocal technique. She believes success comes from loving music and working hard to perform well.
Hillary is such a positive person and was so patient with my first time singer.
June 7, 2015
Hillary was very good with my 4 year old. He was reluctant at first, but she was able to bring him around and he ended up loving his lesson. He was so happy he called daddy and grandma on the way home to tell them about it.
I am an opera singer who has experience teaching multiple genres including pop, rock, jazz and classical. I create monthly plans for my students and teach them techniques to feel in control of their singing and confident.
I am an opera singer and pianist who studied at the Aaron Copland School of Music in NYC and I recently moved to Texas to further my studies in music education.
I started teaching piano and voice privately in New York City in 2012 and I continue to in North Texas. I have experience teaching ages 4 to 80 in both voice and piano. I started training in both singing and piano in 2001 and as result have performed from Carnegie Hall to the Vatican.
My daughter has been taking lessons for a few months now and the results have been amazing. Natasha has brought her out of her shell and helped her become confident in her singing abilities. She teaches such interesting details about vocal methods. She is amazing.
September 5, 2019
SUPER nice!!! Only had one lesson so far, but will back for sure!!
August 3, 2019
Natasha is amazing....she is very kind, positive, inspirational, and uses valid and easy to understand techniques that accelerate learning.
Want to sing your favorite Broadway tunes? Learn to hit that high note thats giving you trouble? Just want to feel more comfortable speaking and singing in public? My approach to voice begins with the basics and is deeply rooted in ear training and music theory. I am classically trained and I work as a musical director in musical theatre. I do audition coaching and actor training as well.
I am a professional vocalist, instrumentalist ( guitar, mandolin, piano, bass, ukulele), actor, writer and string theorist with a degree in Theatre from Oklahoma State University. I sing, act and play instruments for professional theatres in the Dallas area and have music directed community and childrens productions. I am largely self taught and consider myself my own best student and once in college built a guitar completely out of materials found at home depot. I have also studied voice, piano and guitar with several industry professionals.
I am a treasure trove of information about instruments. Consultation is included in the price and this includes everything from selecting a new instruments to basic set up and repair.
I place a large emphasis on ear training, which helps you to hear the structure and flow of music. Ear trai
ning is imperative for more advanced students to learn before they can begin improvisation. Its like giving a man a fish vs teaching a man to fish. Its also a great transition into the theory part of your instrument specifically for kids who often pick up and latch on to the concept. Ear training properly though is not only a daily process but can be difficult for some so if you feel like this isn't for you that is okay because it all comes down to what you want.
My voice students will learn to relax into their singing and to strengthen their voice week to week. Each student receives a personalized plan of daily exercises based on their needs and weekly performance. I also offer audition coaching for those in the musical theatre community. For kids and beginners we start with basic breath control and diction. For more advanced students we work on improvisation
My instrumental students will begin by learning ear training and basic structure from there I make it about you and what you want to learn. I am a big believer in genre bending instruments. I for instance play jazz and blues mandolin. If you're wondering why you have never heard of this its because you can count the number of culturally relevant jazz and blues mandolinists on one hand. There are also reasonably few people who teach this as it is something so rarely done. If you have latched on to a particular genre of music I'd love to help you explore it.
Acting students are encouraged to dabble in all parts of theatre and film as many roles require you to be a jack of many trades. Character development and emoting convincingly is only part of the game.
Cancelation policy: 24 hour notice or in case of emergency with doctors note.
So far we are very happy with Anthony. My children were nervous at first but soon after we leave they are immediately looking forward to the next lesson. His style of teaching and techniques are great!

Artists like Billy Joel and Elton John may make it look effortless, but singing and playing the piano at the same time takes time and practice to truly master! Understandably, it’s difficult because you’re multitasking by "playing" two instruments simultaneously – your voice and the piano. It’s easy to lose concentration on one, while the other goes a little off; if you focus on your voice, you might mess up the timing with your fingers, and should you pay too much attention to the p …
