Tutoring in beginner to intermediate German. Focus on conversation.

About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

I grew up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed German credits at the college level. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor.

My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

I have experience teaching German literature, elementary German, and German grammar. I lived in Germany for over 18 years. Possibly the only dedicated PhD for E-Learning on the TakeLessons server, I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in Leicester, UK.

My style and attitude toward teaching is a balance between subject delivery and reflective, supportive interaction. I seek to enable current research on education for busy, yet goal-driven student interests. This is done through customized online lessons coordinating the experience with optimal resources and tools. Examples are helping ESL students to monitor their own phonic issues with dedicated software/feedback, guiding German students through conversational dialogues, and ta
iloring Excel and related productivity lessons for particular prerequisites.

Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. Possibly the only dedicated PhD for E-Learning on the TakeLessons server, I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in Leicester, UK.
My most popular subjects are as follows:

North American English Pronunciation Practice for ESL (NAEPP-ESL) or Accent-Reduction:
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 recordings, and about 50 GB onedrive folder for lesson files*****

Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software (acoustic waveform analysis) to enable dynamic feedback and self-monitoring .

Microsoft Excel:

This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.

Typing:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.

I am a native German speaker and have been teaching German since September 2011.
My students are pre-k -12 th Graders and occasionally adults, mostly Business German. SAT prep for German and German with listening.

About Kerstin
I graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in June 2007 with a Master in Education (Arts in Education) degree. During my studies I worked in the framework of the Artful Adventures Program (Museum of Fine Arts in Boston), which provides object - based learning and hands on artistic experiences for elementary and middle school kids. My own research was about “Creative Insight in Practice" and "Acquiring English as a Second Language and Developing Self-Esteem through the Idiom of Art". I have more than a two decades-long experience in painting, drawing, printmaking and installation work. The images I use in my work are mostly based on self-made or collected photos or drawings from nature combined with literature or self-made phrases. I use digital tools in order to layer text, photos and drawings and combine them to a new work.
Photo and text based collages will often merge into drawings or watercolors and these are the starting point for my large scale oil paintings.

Kerstin has been teaching German to both my kids for the past several years. Their grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation has improved dramatically. Kerstin has done a tremendous job tailoring her lessons to the different needs and learning preferences my children who very much appreciated this tailored approach. Most recently, Kerstin helped to prepare my oldest daughter for her German SAT subject test with outstanding results. I can highly recommend her.

Kerstin has been a great teacher for my two sons. Kerstin always made an special effort to provide teaching material that was not only age appropriate and appropriate for their level of proficiency, but was also tailored to their particular interests. Her teaching style is methodical, while also casual and interactive, and thus well suited to provide a positive learning experience, particularly for children and adolescents. Both my children have benefited greatly from her teaching and I would recommend her highly.

I have taken lessons with Ronald since I was 6, I am now 23. In my 17 years of taking lessons I have learned to play piano, sing and am proficient in music theory. In the more recent years I have even had the opportunity to teach music through Ronald. Throughout the years, I have experienced and witnessed the patience and kindness Ronald consistently shows his students. He encourages his students to become better and shares in their enthusiasm due to their accomplishments. Ronald genuinely cares about his students and is dedicated to making sure his students improve. I fully recommend Ronald for students who have parents who want to be involved in the learning process and especially for young children who are just starting out. Ronald works well with families, includes parents every step of the way and is very patient with young students helping them learn in an open and encouraging environment.

Mr.Chaz is really dedicated to his profession. He started to teach my seven year old son over one year ago and he has motivated him to sing his best and he started piano with him last year which has been a phenomenal experience for my son. Chaz really focuses on the detail, theory and groundwork necessary to excel in music. If you are lucky enough to get your child started with him you will never regret the experience. He is simply the best! My son sings all the time now and loves to play piano. I am so happy for my son to have found someone to expand on his talents!

About Andrea
I was born and raised in Germany where I spent most of my life. As long as I can think I've always loved music, and soon after I got my first guitar at the age of 13 I started to write songs. I moved to the US in 2011 and worked as a music director for a local non denominational church for the last 6 years, working with and leading bands, playing acoustic and electric guitar as well as bass. Before I moved to Santa Barbara I travelled throughout Europe to play concerts and I published 2 CDs with original songs. You can find my music on iTunes.

This will give my student a well balanced foundation, he /she will really experience the language, get a “real feel” for it! I customize my curriculum to my students needs, wishes and goals. After a few lessons my students can speak easy sentences and phrases in German already, they will understand even more and will use their newly acquired skills continuesly. About Susanna
Guten Tag!

I was born and raised in Munich, Germany. I am fluent in German and English. I moved to the United States over 30 years ago with my family. I worked as a chief flight attendant for Lufthansa Airlines for many years. When I became a mother I earned my certification as a Montessori teacher in 2006 and have been teaching my students at a local Montessori school the German language with fun songs (I play the piano) and simple games and interesting books. It is important to me to make the whole learning process a positive and fun experience for my students. I worked with pre-schoolers as well as elementary students. I also tutor high school/college students and adults of any age in German. One of my hobbies and passions is acting on stage, mainly in comedies at local community theaters.
Whatever your needs may be in r
egard to the German language, (writing, reading, spelling, correct pronunciation, etc. school, work or travel) I would love to be of assistance and make the learning an enjoyable adventure and great success! Living in the United States for so many years and also traveling to Germany every year has made me acutely aware of the cultural differences and I enjoy sharing these interesting findings with my students, it helps immensely to embrace, immerse and "feel" a foreign language.
I can meet my students in person or if more convenient be available for online lessons.

Let's start with this exciting and fun adventure to dive into another culture, another world and language!
