My name is Ulyana and I'm passionate about teaching and tutoring in creative ways! The important thing for me is that you learn the material as well as experience the joy of learning. I cater the learning to you! For seven years now, I have either tutored or taught in classrooms and in the field for all age groups, sharing the joy of science and math. Most recently I worked for National Geographic Student Expeditions, a program for high school students interested in learning photography, film, and field (outdoor) science. During the springtime, I am a visiting professor at Colorado College, teaching at the undergraduate level. My day job includes running my company, Science in the Wild, which gets kids and adults alike outside, learning and doing science around the world while on expedition.

Learning to read can be challenging in English. Our language, while beautiful, has as many unique characteristics as do our people! Since I have a secondary English minor, I've had long experience in reading, teaching and interacting with many levels of students.
Difficulty in reading can often be simply a translation problem. When that glitch is narrowed in on, and taken apart, the magic of words opens up!
In this crazy time, remote teaching is what we do! I’ve found it works quite well, and am enjoying seeing students own space as well. Happy distancing learning! Hello! I know you want to know about me, but this is really about YOU! I am a music coach. That means that my role is to find out

I view algebra like a game: there are simple rules that govern what you can do, and if you know and understand the rules, the game is a whole lot easier. The same thing can be said for algebra. If algebra seems to be a struggle for a student, I can help them identify the basic concepts (i.e. rules) on which they need to strengthen their understanding. Algebra is an essential tool I use to solve a myriad of problems every day as an engineer, and so I am intimately familiar with its many different topics, and perhaps because I understand its value, I genuinely enjoy teaching algebra to others.
I remember what it was like to personally struggle with algebra, and I know the most common pitfalls which make it seem more difficult than it actually is. Because of this experience, I am quite adept on picking up on my students' weak points, and helping them clear up fuzzy understandings of the rules of algebra. I started teaching algebra six years ago when I first started teaching it to ...

Looking for the very best in personalized ACT prep? I train students in a series of techniques proven to increase test scores.
How do I know it works? I've been tutoring professionally for ten years, and the results are clear. I currently teach students at Dalton, Collegiate, Horace Mann, Chapin, Riverdale, and a handful of other schools.
What's the secret? I tune my lessons, pacing, and teaching style to the student's specific needs. Every learner is different, so in order to crack a test like the ACT, each student needs to build their own, unique approach. It's essential to quickly identify challenge areas--like stamina, speed, subject-specific content, and question analysis. I lay out a weekly plan to tackle these challenges, leading up to the test date.
Acing the ACT in particular is about learning the ropes and playing the game. Broadly, I focus on three areas: STRATEGY, CONTENT, and SPEED. My aim is for sessions to be both enjoyable AND demanding. The goal is to build

Colin knows his material. He is patient and ensures the student is keeping pace with him as he explains the methodology. He takes the time necessary to ensure the student knows the material and is able to follow the explanations. As anyone who has studied math knows, you can't rush the process. Each step is a crucial foundation for the next.
Thank you Colin!"
