Hi! I like to make it fun, with lots of encouragement! I have more than 40 years of teaching experience, and a PhD in Music Education. My playing experience includes symphonic playing, solo with orchestra, community bands, flute ensembles, and musicals. I taught at the International Music Camp in the International Peace Garden for 30 years. I have had studios that included 20 students at different times in my career. I believe that music making should be joyful and loving. I teach all genres and specialize in preparing for UIL and solo/ensemble competitions with students winning opportunities to solo with an orchestra. I can meet with ensembles as well. I love to watch my students improve and reach their potential!

I have been coaching woodwind players and freelancing for the last 10 years in Los Angeles, New York, and back home in New Hampshire. Growing up, I heard my sister practicing the clarinet couldn't wait to get started. Once I started in 4th grade, I played in every class meeting and even played a duet with my principal in 5th grade during morning announcements. I play creative music of all genres and will help each student find music that they enjoy playing.

Music lessons are an opportunity to facilitate skill acquisition, self-expression, and strategic planning to meet new goals. Ideally the teacher and student agree to treat each musical idea with a unique attention, where the student learns by way of the teachers experience and insightful guidance, and the teacher also learns through live interaction with the student. I believe this type of learning to be possible for all levels of students and even more natural outside of an academic institution than inside of one.

I have taught

"My daughter plays flute in a high school wind ensemble and orchestra. She is first chair of 23 and has recently been learning very challenging music including many solos. When she needed instruction above what her school could offer her, I went online and found Brenda's profile. Brenda's resume for performance and teaching is impressive. What the resume can't speak to is how well she works with her students. Brenda helped my daughter immensely when she needed it most not only technically with her playing, but with her confidence. I would recommend Brenda as an instructor for any age or skill level."

"I first met Jeremy when I started playing the flute in middle school and he would come after school to help mentor us beginning flutists. In high school, I sought extra help to further develop my skills and asked Jeremy for lessons. In only a few short months, I grew tremendously as a musician as he not only helped me to excel at the songs we were working on at the time, but also in music theory and how to prepare for similar pieces. These skills helped me to later become first chair flutist during my senior year and has aided me with other areas of music which I studied. He is super friendly and helpful and will definitely work with you, whatever level you are, to help you to become the best that you can be!"
