Kerry is awesome! He is a very nice guy and patient. He will not only tailor the lesson to you best learning style, He will also personalize it to your music taste to keep you motivated and wanting to learn. He took the time to get to know me as a student and it’s paying off, learning guitar was very dry alone but with Kerry’s help I am not only learning some of my favorite songs but I am also learning the theory behind them and expanding my musical taste. If you have the opportunity to take one of his lessons do it!! You will leave with a much better understanding of music.

Kerry is an awesome instructor! He's professional for starters. He adheres to the time that is set and/or communicates if it requires otherwise. He is great at setting a child and parent at ease. His level of knowledge and experience is exceptional. One can tell he really loves his craft. He chose to teach my 3 year old when most instructors wouldn't because of his age given that my son wasn't 5 years of age. My little one enjoys the lesson, therefore I enjoy the lesson. He also encourages parents to get involved with the lesson. Overall, I am enjoying the investment and will continue as long as my child is willing to learn and Kerry is willing to teach. Parents should know that going with this instructor wouldn't be a waste.

I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either notated or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study. Lessons are a minimum of 60 minutes once per week.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

Reading the detailed "About" section below should give an aspiring singer/songwriter all the information relevant as to how and what I teach, with regard to vocal performance and technique. I have associated with published songwriters my entire 40 year career, and have gathered viable and pertinent knowledge of the craft that I can now pass along to a new era of writers. We will unpack the secrets of good songwriting, and we will write songs. We have the capabilities in my studio to record and mix your songs as well. I have co-written songs with my students that have been nominated for rewards in Nashville. Look at our sessions as practical, relevant clinics that will produce original musical material that will be heard, as you absorb the knowledge you need to be successful in this genre. To capsulize my mission statement as an instructor: You WILL be a better singer/songwriter and performer. THIS I GUARANTEE!!

About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Be assured that all the technology I need to fulfill the educational needs of my students is but a step away!!

Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. Now we're getting into blocking and developing the physical aspects of a character. I'm learning a great deal and Glenn's patience and encouragement make him the ideal instructor to learn and grow. Highly recommend!

I've been teaching songwriting sessions for Girls Rock Camp, the Girl Scouts and a few Youth Programs in the area. Song writing sessions is a workshop that helps my students place their words into a rhythm. This class is great for group lessons.

About Rachel
I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm.

I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager.I really enjoy the art of practice and the journey of patience. The process of learning has helped me carve out and cultivate my style of music. It's opened up a lot of doors for me in my life. I've had the honor to play with a lot of great performers and have been lucky enough to tour the U.S. and Canada with festivals and showcases such as Vans Warped Tour, South By Southwest and the Halifax Pop Explosion.I've been the opening act for Carolyn Wonderland, Maria Taylor, Tsunami Bomb, Tilly and the Wall, Basia Bulat, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere. Anathallo, Cursive, Milton Hopki
ns, and Pony Up.

When I have free time I volunteer with the Houston Chapter of Girls Rock Camp to help teach girls empowerment through songwriting and music.

I began teaching as an afterschool job when I was 16. I was homeschooled, so I feel that the experience taught me that everyone learns differently and that there is not just one standardized method to playing music.

My teaching style varies with each student, but the one constant is my ability to make each and every client I encounter completely fall in LOVE with music. It's my super power.

Lesson plans are tailored for your specific needs and to help you achieve your musical goals and aspirations at your desired pace. I enjoy my students and making music with them.

Here is an overview of the lessons that I provide.

Guitar:
Finger Picking, Song Writing, Rhythm, Lead, Scales,Modes & Ear Training.

Songwriting and composition: Learn techniques, how to brain storm and plot your musical story line. This class pairs great with vocal lessons or guitar lessons.

Learn basic to complex popular song arrangements. Develop melodies and lyrics based on a variety of common songwriting techniques found throughout the ages. Work on counting measures while playing and maintaining a designated arrangement, thus allowing the opportunity to play with a band.

About Aidan
Hi, my name is Aidan. I'm a composer, performer, guitar instructor and band leader. I teach at my apartment in Cambridge and can drive within the Cambridge area.

I am a Hampshire College music program graduate who has taught students of various ages, skills, and music preferences. I play guitar in Freddy & the Yetis, a touring band out of New England and i'm currently living Cambridge this year to study with one of Berklee's most prominent professors. Ive played hundreds of gigs in my life.

My goal with students is to encourage both a love of music and the guitar as an instrument for personal expression. I want to see my students playing the music they enjoy as soon as possible. Every student is treated as an individual. Their needs, abilities and learning style are taken into consideration. I use this information to design a stude
nt specific curriculum. The experience should be fun and educational for the student.

Various openings 9am - 10pm
Prices are negotiable depending on location

I encourage students to take one or two lessons per week at a regularly scheduled time. References are available.

"Aidan has been teaching my 12-year old son guitar for the last year. He started with the basics in technique and later worked with him on music appreciation. My son really enjoyed his easy-going and attentive nature and attitude. Aidan was always punctual and respectful of our schedule. I feel my son learned a lot about music and he enjoyed working with Aidan."

Aidan is a terrific teacher!! I played professionally over 35 years ago and have not played at all since. At this point I could not play ANYTHING. He took me back through the basics and got me thinking the way I did when I was in my teens. Clearly he has the technical aspect of both music and teaching down - but what made him a great teacher to me is his love of music and guitar. Reminded me of why I loved it in the first place. Although we didn't match up on style perfectly - he embraced the music that I loved and got me back up and running - could not give him a higher recommendation!!

About Judith
Hi there!

I am Judith, a professional Pop/Rock/Jazz singer and pianist. In 2009 I've got my Master's degree in Popular Music Voice Education at the University of Music & Drama in Hanover, Germany, and for the past 10 years I've worked as a voice instructor and freelance singer/pianist in Germany, the UK, Egypt, Greece and Houston, TX.

My approach to singing is to combine the voice with your whole body in order to reach higher registers, gain more power and loose strain and fears! I help you to enjoy singing even more - in an effortless and comfortable way!

I can't wait to meet you and to start singing with you!

Judith is a once in a lifetime mentor and voice coach that will work with you no matter where you are in your musical journey. She's been flexible, kind, and patient with me despite the fact that I had no prior musical experience whatsoever. I really can't put into words how much she's helped me in developing a creative outlet for myself. She also has a great concern for her student's health and emphasizes teaching how to sing in a healthy way without damaging one's voice. I've been her student for just a few months and I feel like I walk away with significant improvement every time I see her. Overall, I simply can't recommend her highly enough.

Great instructor, I'm noticing a lot of improvement with my German. Her teaching style is laid back and easy to follow. Thanks Judith!

One of the best lessons we ever had. Judith was absolutely perfect. Extremely patient and very very good at connecting with our daughter. In our first lesson, she had a very shy girl singing with confidence. If you have a chance to get on her schedule, do it quickly. She is great.

Teaching all depends on what the student wants to get out of the lessons and their musical capability. However, with any style of music I start with a simple idea and gradually build on it step by step that the student can grasp until they understand the grand concept I was leading them towards. That's how it's done.

About Alex
My name is Alejandro (Alex Choyce) and I LOOOOOOVE to compose music. I also love singing. A lot. So I decided to take advantage of my skills as a classical singer and start teaching private lessons. I idealize teaching privately because it creates a greater relationship between the musicians, which usually leads to better musical performances. To get an idea of my level of composing feel free to explore my SoundCloud page found by typing alex choyce composition into SoundCloud's search engine. Thanks! - Alex
