I have been teaching and performing professionally for over 30 years at all levels, from beginners to post-doctoral professors of saxophone at major universities. I am a retired professor of saxophone and my students have won various competitions at all levels. We will focus on developing proper technique, building good practice habits, and long term improvement.

About Andy

My students have described our lessons as being fun, intense, humorous, and thought-provoking. Lessons are always tailored to the individual student, because the lessons are about the student making progress toward their goals, not about me. Dr. Wen was the best professor and lesson instructor I have ever had. I took lessons with him for over seven years starting in high school and throughout my entire college. He shares his expertise in music theory, techniques, and instrument mechanics. He really helped me gain confidence in my playing abilities, showed me how I should be practicing in order to get the most of each rehearsal, and taught me so much about myself as a player. His ability to instruct on every aspect of playing the instrument is something I really admire. Need help rhythmically? He will help you understand time, measurement, and notes. Need help technically? He has all the ways to practice to get that much closer to perfection and how to maintain it. Need help with scales? He will help you to truly understand the scale in order for you to play it better. Not only will he help with the "how-tos," he will explain the why. Needing help with breathing techniques or articulations? He will take you through exercises that will enhance every aspect of your playing. He sets the standards high, and helps you reach your goals. I will always recommend Dr. Wen!
Valerie
Dr. Wen is an outstanding saxophone instructor, performer, and technician! I learned more from him in my first two 30 minute lessons than I had in 15 years of playing.
He will teach you how to make your practice time more productive, alternate fingerings to play more in tune, techniques to make note transitions easier, how to prepare new reeds for playing.... and on and on.
I had not played for a very long time. Dr Wen got me from there to where I was playing in a University Wind Ensemble, a quartet, and a community band. He also knew exactly where my saxophone needed to be adjusted to make it play better.
Dr Wen was my instructor for approximately 7 years. I learned a tremendous amount from him. You can’t do any better than Dr Andy Wen. He’s outstanding!

Excellent instructor. Highly knowledgeable in music theory and the mechanics of the instrument. I took lessons from Andy for many years. He always kept it challenging - never boring, pushed me to do more than i thought I could. Well worth the money. Can't go wrong with this one!

Ms. Marisol is wonderful, talented, and dedicated piano and vocal teacher. She teaches with structure but is also very kind with her students. As one of her old vocal students, she was great at teaching me how to control my voice, sing with better dynamics and pronunciation. As for my brother, he studied with her for a couple months and we saw a lot of improvement despite him being a slower learner. Although I didn't study with her for long due to personal problems, she was a wonderful teacher.

Marisol was my son's first piano teacher when he was 5 years old. She is a wonderful piano teacher. Within 5 months, my son went from not knowing a single thing about music to playing Fur Elise and Chopin. He was able to read music sheet and excel in playing more advanced piece, thank to Ms. Marisol. Since we live in Riverside and she is in Santa Ana, there was time we need her help with my son's lesson through FaceTime and she was really good helping my son through that too. To sum up, she is a great piano teacher , especially for young kid.

I've taught ages 3 to 35, beginner to undergraduate collegiate level. I will inspire a love for the instrument that will carry through the week with you.

Gabrielle is very encouraging. It’s a lot of fun to take lesson with her.

Gabrielle has a really fun personality, which only helps to compliment her piano skill. Not only that, but she is very flexible on scheduling, and understands that things can come up from time to time for either the student or the teacher. With this expectation in mind, her lessons really make the most of the 30 minutes allotted, and her skills show as she helps you step through each measure. I've taken piano lessons before, quite some time ago, and Gabrielle was quickly able to adapt the lesson to what I already knew versus what I had to re-learn or learn for the first time. Definitely recommend!

Tszto IS THE BEST CELLO TEACHER I have ever had because it is the first time someone explains me how to BREATH and ENJOY playing the cello, with a PERFECT TECHNIQUE and posture. He loves to play cello and he teaches with the same PASSION. He is super PATIENT with me and has the best way to correct me and explain me. He is an amazing cello player and really pedagogic. I had a german style teacher in the past and I stop playing cello because I didn't enjoy it and had pain and frustration. Tszto is helping me to reconnect with my cello, he corrects my posture (so it is a pleasant time with absolute no pain) and playing is turning to be a movement meditation for me, I love it now. I can feel and hear the progress on each lesson, thanks to him and to the homework (practice 15 mins, listen and reading). THANK YOU Tszto! After so many years, I am able to start again from cero and with so much passion. Thank you!

Tszto is an excellent cellist and teacher. My child has improved immensely in the few months she has been studying with him. He is diligent in making sure all aspects of playing the cello are in order from musicianship to technique. He is professional and a nice person.
Amy
Tszto was the best instructor ever! He was well-prepared, experienced, and flexible. He always brought all of his teaching materials relevant to me and made sure we cover what I needed to learn/reinforce. He was also clearly experienced with teaching a wide range of students and applied relevant teaching methods that worked best for me. I also appreciated how flexible he was in scheduling/rescheduling lessons whenever despite his own busy schedule and commitment. I only had a very positive experience learning from him and appreciated the fact that he demonstrated his passion for teaching in every lesson I had with him. Definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn/practice cello!

"Working with Briana was a fantastic experience. I went in with much more pessimism than I had actual ability to produce notes on command. Briana had the ability to notice what skills I did have (in acting and mimicry), the confidence to convince me too that this could be transformed into the ability to hit a note with confidence, and the musical and instructional skill to show me how to do it. Within a couple of lessons she took me from virtual thinking I could never sing at all, to knowing it would just take some time and practice with the application of what I could already do with my voice to the musical realm.

It was one of the best sets of private lessons I've ever had, because of how tailored it was to my individual position with regard to what I personally could do, where I needed to get, and my own point of reference as far as how to get there.

In all, Briana's extremely knowledgeable about the human voice and how to use it, very attentive to the individual student's needs and abilities, and a huge amount of fun to work with."

What Other Musicianship Skills Do Singers Need?

Are you a singer who wants to be a more well-rounded musician? Here, Hayward, CA teacher Molly R. shares what you should be working on beyond the necessary vocal techniques...   When you sign up for voice lessons, you have certain expectations about the things you’ll learn: how to breathe, get better high and low notes, etc. You’ll also likely learn more about selecting repertoire, and how to be an effective performer! But… is this enough? Singers often get a bad rap for …
