Adam has been a great teacher and exactly the sort of professional and understanding person I was looking for. While I don't think my mediocre (getting better every week) guitar skills are the best testament to Adam's ability as a teacher, I think the fact that he has encouraged me to stick with it and turn a crazy idea into a legitimate hobby is.
But to play the mando well looks a lot easier than it is, unless you have learned your lessons and done your homework. I love to teach the basics and show all the basic things you have to do to be a good mando player.
Most tunes I will teach you are old timey, blues, fiddle tunes, swing, also special notes on playing with a band, playing backup, and of course, bluegrass.
I like to teach old school Bill Monroe/ Bill Napier style of Bluegrass Mando.
Basic musical questions are also welcome
I began playing flute in middle school at the age of 12. I was lucky to have the opportunity to attend the prestigious LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and the Performing Arts, in addition to the Juilliard School on the weekends. I continued to study flute into college and graduate school, where I studied with world renowned professors at established music conservatories.
My passion for teaching and love of music have brought me to play and live internationally. I am grateful
My understanding of music has affected the way I perceive the world, and the way I move through it. I enjoy sharing that with my students.
I teach a lot of skills and instruments. My greatest joys are teaching
The violin is an instrument that is incredibly simple conceptually and, when played, provides an infinite opportunity for variation. The process of learning involves stripping that infinite variety into a set of simple ideas that are learned, ingrained, and, eventually, the variety is reintroduced and creative ability begins to show itself in a usable form. Using the violin as a fun and rewarding method of self expression, and a tool for sharpening the mind and the body provides a powerful combination that, when approached with regular practice, can provide a depth of benefit far beyond possessing a new skill.
Music production is a huge part of music, a bigger part of the future of music. And every great musician is a producer in one sense or another. To me, production is seeing the big picture. To decide what you want the hear, to imagine a sound, an arrangement, a complete track or album, and to bring it into the world complete with all the precision and happy accidents that go along with that process, that is music production. I particularly enjoy teaching electronic music production through Pro Tools, Ableton Live (what I use the most personally), or Fruity Loops. I'm comfortable with most modern software relating to music. And I will guide you through the process of learning effects, recording techniques, sound design, songwriting, composing, arranging, and mixing, to create the music that reflects your imagination.
I have a Master's degree in Guitar Performance -- emphasis on Classical and Flamenco -- from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. I have been providing private lessons in guitar for over 10 years for students of all ages and skill levels. I also perform and gig regularly. In my career, I have played several well known pieces, such as Entre Dos Aguas by Paco De Lucia, Asturias by Isaac Albeniz, and Recuerdos De La Alhambra by Francisco Tarrega.
Lesson plans are tailored to the student's needs and goals, which can be anything from learning how to read music, learning how to play by ear, furthering one's technique, etc. In lessons with me, you can expect to develop the basics of proper classical techniques, all the way to mastery, enabling y
My goal as a teacher is to develop a strong foundation to allow students to eventually learn songs on their own with ease. I strive to create a fun environment to foster learning and keep students engaged in the task at hand. My schedule is flexible and I am open to lessons at my home, your home, or online. I can't wait to get started!
