I'm a relaxed person with a strict teaching style. I have two critical expectations for my stud
ents.

1: I expect my students to practice everyday, with time depending on age. (10 minutes a day for 5 year old's, 20 minutes for 10 year old's, etc.) No exceptions. Lessons are a place for me to teach you, not a place to watch you practice.

2: I expect parents to participate in every lesson. You are the teacher 6 days a week, I'm only get to teach them one.

If everyone understands my expectations, students will grow and learn quickly, and have a great time doing it!

I develop a lesson plan depending on each students strengths, weaknesses, talents, and personality. No one student is identical to the next, so none will be taught the same, but everyone will follow a similar pattern.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano lessons with full keyboard. Stands, couches, and a small library of sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki style instruction for violin technique. For songwriting and performance I focus on the analysis of music to find a middle ground of emotional expression and theory. Once that middle ground is found we explore what music means to the student, and how they can use it as a tool of expression.

I've been playing the violin self-taught for about two years because my first experience with a violin teacher went horribly. So after two years I figured I'd try again.
I was on Reverb Lessons for 6 months, and it was a complete nightmare. The most highly rated teacher they provided didn't seem like he was teaching me anything at all. Most of our lesson were music theory, which was helpful, but I would only play the violin the last 5 mins of the two hour lessons. He kept telling me, "i didn't have it in me to be a violinist" and he told me to play piano instead. Well it turned out he didn't even play the violin!
Completely despondent, I was getting angry that I
might not progress in the violin (which I was madly in love with) but dispite my bitterness I decided to try to find a teacher again.

I've only had three lesson with Josh and I can't articulate how much better I've gotten. He's calm and collective, and gives me exactly the advice I need in order to get better. He's an attentive listener, and responds accordingly. I enjoy his lessons; they are the perfect balance of stern and nurturing. I'm excited to see how I progress as the lessons continue, and I'm thankful that I FINALLY found a good violin instructor

About Indigo
Indigo has been working in the performing arts since she was biting ankles, first as a dancer and vocalist, and later as a guitarist. She's composed music for and/or sung dozens of international television commercials, spots on Law and Order and songs in Films premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, and as a lead guitarist and vocalist, toured the US, Canada, Europe and Iceland, extensively, performing in hundreds of theaters and rock clubs around the world, including-- Madison Square Garden, BAM, The Beacon Theater, Music Hall Of Williamsburg, The Bowery Ballroom, Club Nokia (LA), The Santa Barbara Bowl, The Chicago Theater, Baby's All Right, The Mercury Lounge, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (SF), Pickathon (Portland)

As a teacher, Indigo's method has, at it's core, a commitment to the idea of teaching a man to fish rather than giving hi
m a fish, and every student, regardless of age or experience will be taught to understand, first and foremost, how music works, so that he or she comes away, not only with the skills to play the material covered in the lessons, but, eventually, the ability to teach themselves any other material they're interested in.

With an emphasis on ear training, her natural approach to learning theory, makes even the most wary or challenged student understand with ease, and find pleasure in the process of learning. Rote memorization is eliminated and replaced by a deep understanding, which grows naturally, while technique improves alongside it. Students quickly find themselves able to play, sing and understand things previously only dreamed of.

These universal building blocks of music apply across all genres. Technique will be tailored to your specific interests, and from the start, a portion of each lesson will be devoted to learning the material of your choice.

Indigo also specializes in coaching songwriters, and can, in a gentle and non-invasive way, help to guide you through the process of both mastering craft, and establishing your own individual voice as a writer.

Indigo is an amazing teacher. While she is a professional musician with a deep understanding of music theory, I am an intermediate guitar player and don’t spend much time on theory - i mostly want to work on playing songs and singing, and she jumps right into what i am working on with enthusiasm and an open mind. She is good at explaining things and she is also always smiling and super nice. Can’t say enough good things.

Indigo is able to break down the guitar in a way that is clear and empowering, and very musical. You will be a better musician if you follow through on her revelations.

Indigo is a fabulous and diverse teacher! I've been taking lessons with her for about 9 months. Although my lessons are "officially" for songwriting, we divide our time among that, guitar technique, and music theory. I've experienced so much progress and fun in several areas, and I attribute that to Indigo's teaching and guidance. I even wrote and produced my first solo song! Don't miss the chance to work with a great musician and teacher!

About Laurel
Laurel is a professional vocal coach and singer with a long history of performing with various bands ranging from cover bands to a jazz orchestra as well as writing and recording her own music. Laurel has been teaching voice professionally for over five years. She is a classically trained actress with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from California State University, Northridge and has starred in several musicals and plays in Los Angeles as well as Hawaii where she lived most recently before returning to the mainland. She has also worked as a professional actress in film and TV and was a voice over casting director for several years.

Most recently Laurel had the opportunity to guest sing with the Ventura Jazz Orchestra. She is currently the lead singer of a professional cover band called The Jukebox Rockers who do a variety of music fro
m different eras including classic rock, pop, country and disco.

Laurel is trained in a vocal technique called Speech Level Singing which helps singers obtain optimum results using exercises specific to their vocal type to increase control and strengthen the mix between head and chest voice. Singers are able to sing in any style without straining, cracking or causing damage to their vocal cords. Laurel is passionate about helping her students release their true voices and unleash their maximum singing potential!

*** Lesson Details ***
The method I teach is derived from the Bel Canto technique of singing which has been historically used by opera singers but it is a universal method that can be applied to any genre of music. Teaching this method helps our students sing with a relaxed and open voice, adequate support and use of the diaphragm for breathing and control, and proper and effective use of vowels while “bridging” or transitioning between registers in the voice. Ultimately the student will learn how to sing with a proper mixed vocal sound which is explained further below.

I focus on assisting a singer through his or her vocal range from lowest notes (chest register) to highest notes (head register), safely, effortlessly, without strain, tension or loss of control. The goal is to sing with a clear solid and connected tone free from breaks or forcing pitches which results in tightness, yelling or voice flipping into an airy-sounding pitch. The student relearns to sing using a low and stable larynx which is the key to producing a mixed sound and mastering one’s voice.

Ultimately the secret to reaching your full vocal potential lies in mastering the vocal bridges which assist in the transition between registers. This technique not only allows you to sing in a safe manner but will effectively balance and strengthen your voice. Once you make the commitment to taking consistent lessons, practicing and singing correctly as much as possible, you will become the singer you have always believed you could be!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha keyboard, speakers and monitor to play background music and lyrics

*** Specialties ***
Improvement of singing pitch and range
Choosing the right songs for your vocal type
Learning to sing in a correct and safe manner
Balancing the voice from bottom register to top
Elimination of cracking, reaching and straining
Building dynamics and breath control
Stage performance and finding truth and emotion
Speech and Acting

My name is Keagan Riley. I am a recent graduate of Baylor Law School, Marine Officer, collegiate baseball player, prolific songwriter, and first and foremost a Christian.

I want to be able to share the gifts that I have with others to help them develop new skills, maximize their abilities, become more well rounded individuals, and become the best version of themselves they can be.

My lessons focus on the technical aspects of learning a new skill and on the intellectual side of the skill (which I believe is often overlooked). My lessons will focus on creating goals for yourself and then putting together a strategic plan to achieve those goals. I will teach you every tool I know, as well as learn along side you to help you get the results you want.

About David
My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and I'm looking to get a few new students.
I teach guitar, piano, bass guitar and even upright bass. If it's a tutor you are looking for I can also teach music theory and appreciation. I have a knack for teaching young people, probably because I was young when I started my musical journey. I've been very successful at inspiring a student's love of music and instilling the patience required to take on the challenge of playing an instrument.
The first thing I like to do is get to know you, the music you enjoy and your goals. In a way, I l
ike to begin by letting the student lead.
In addition to learning from you, I intend to present you with new information, to try and broaden your musical tastes and teach you how to be an active listener.

He took extra time when we first started to find out where my daughter was at in her skill and ability, made a book and plan for her, and the took extra time each week to answer every question and really try to teach her effectively. She enjoyed it and wanted to go because she was learning and improving. She even started to appreciate the homework he gave. Will definitely consider him again if the logistics work out.

About Rachel
I provide private instruction for beginner to advanced trombone, bass trombone, and music theory students. My goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere in which students can feel free to express themselves through the music they play. I keep students mentally engaged by asking them questions that are intended to direct them toward creating a clear, personal interpretation of their music. This gives the student a sense of artistic authority and ownership over their playing and creates more enjoyment in daily practicing and playing. I advocate for students listening to as much music as they can, whether it is a live concert or a recording, which I view as an essential key to swift musical development.

Rachel is a fantastic teacher and tutor. Her expansive knowledge of music theory and ear training contributes to her vast musical ability. Not only is she a great performer, but she is able to break down the music and explain it in a variety of ways in order to effectively teach students at any level. Most importantly, Rachel is an advocate for students expressing their own musical voice. She will not tell a student exactly how to play a given piece, but rather she will teach them the necessary tools for the student to play well, and allow them to explore their own musical interpretation from there.

Outside of music, Rachel is a genuine and kind-hearted person. She is understanding and empathetic, and this carries over into her teaching as well. That being said, Rachel holds herself and her students to high standards. Students will hear improvement in their tone, technique, and musicality as they work with Rachel. I give her my highest recommendation for all subjects.

Hello! So you want to be a better musician... that's awesome! Music has brightened my life in so many ways. I am so grateful for the teachers I have had, so happy I chose to be a musician, and so eager to help you on your way.

I started piano lessons when my dad forced me to, years ago... and, it stuck! Through diligent practice, in high school I won first place for my state in Music Teachers National Association competition. I studied with Andrey Ponochevney, George Lopez and Sima Kustanovich, and went on after college work as a classroom music teacher and freelance musician.

There are many directions to take in music, and I have explored quite a few:
Freelance jazz musician, playing at restaurants, receptions and special events
Teacher of music theory in the classroom
Choir director, middle school and high school
Church music direc

I also play accordion and harmonica in an Irish Folk band... see, the possibilities are endless!

I love getting to know the varied abilities of each of my students, whether they are just starting out or whether they are working on polishing Prokofiev sonatas. I hope to work with you, too! Contact me and let me help you achieve your musical goals
