I offer private in-studio lessons tailored to your level and goals. Learn to play lead, rhythm, jam, and/or improvise. We can approach learning by using tab, standard notation, or by ear.

We'll focus on tunes you want to play, or take a broader approach incorporating reading music, ear training and theory.

If you’re just starting, we’ll begin with basic technique (holding the pick, strumming), playing chords and playing simple melodies.

About Max

I am a Berklee College of Music graduate in guitar & mandolin performance, and play in two 4-piece bluegrass/country bands and an acoustic duo. I've played over 400 shows since returning to Austin in 2016. Lessons are tailored to your level and goals. We can focus on tunes you want to play, inco

When I started taking lessons with Max, I knew three chords and very little about music theory. I never thought I would get past G-C-D. His patience and structured lessons helped me become a better player. Max is very encouraging and that was most appreciated. I have more confidence in my playing thanks to him. I even understand the circle of fifths!

Max is a very patient and experienced teacher. I enjoyed my lesson with him and will be back for more.

As a 20 years and counting studio owner and record producer to the Austin music community. I’ve been a performing, touring musician since the age of 13. I bring an understanding and love of a lifetime of music. Many of my students have gone on to be successful touring musicians. I love teach my students in my Recording studio which is recently relocated to historic downtown town bastrop. So kids and adults can get a recording of the lesson. I make different lesson plans for every student based on your level of experience and interest. I always teach foundational to advanced music theory, songwriting, improvisation and music appreciation of all genres.

I’ve never taken a lesson with Jonas, but in nearly three decades of covering local goings-on as Music Editor at the Austin Chronicle, I can certainly attest that this man is a musical GENIUS. And as I type that word, I’m trying to think of another local musician I would so readily apply said assignation to. His accumen on six strings is preternatural. In playing with a broad cross section of bands and individuals, Jonas asserts a truly uncanny ability to coax any sound out of his instrument at any give moment. When he does, it’ll be the ONLY sound that should’ve have come forth at that juncture. That’s a rare feat in ANY musician. Jonas’ confidence as a musician/guitarist/producer is only equal to his empathy for others and both remain palpable as his greatest gifts outside of shit-hot natural ability. If I played guitar, I’d absolutely lose my mind at the opportunuty to be mentored by Jonas. You will find NO ONE BETTER. Amen, y’all.

I have been teaching guitar for 10 years and have been a professional musician for the same amount of time. First and foremost I want my student to have fun while learning the guitar! I will base our lesson plans around the songs and styles you want to learn. I will write out easy to read chord charts, sheet music, tab, and even record video examples for you to reference when you are practicing at home. I have taught ages 5-70 and all levels of players from total beginners to college students majoring in music.

I have taught through the City College of New York, The Larchmont Music Academy, Music Box NYC, and tons of my own private students.

About Pat

I have taught lessons since 2008 and love it! I enjoy teaching all levels and truly enjoy seeing my students improve and fall in love with playing music. Teaching has been one of the most fulfilling endeavors of my life. I began playing guitar at the age of 10. With the encouragement of my father,

Pat is a top notch NYC jazz musician with an excellent teaching style. He quickly zeroed in on my current level of ability and goals and helped design a practice plan that delivered results and kept me motivated. My strongest recommendation!

Pat really knows his stuff with jazz guitar. My goal has been to study chord melody with some jazz standards and modal jazz, and Pat has a lot of ideas with chord shapes, voicings, scale choices and alternate and passing chords. I play a lot of rock tunes as well and I've found the lessons with Pat have really helped me expand how I look at playing those songs as well. As a teacher, Pat is really patient and provides really useful supplemental charts. Highly recommended.

Pat is the best guitar teacher I have ever had! Pat makes all the lessons super enjoyable, yet I still learnt a ton! Pat always explained everything super clearly and I had so much fun! I have learnt so much in the year I have been playing guitar and pat made that possible!

Scott is a *fantastic* teacher! My 10 year-old daughter has been taking lessons with him for a year now and her progress has been amazing. She learns how to the play the music she likes, so I never have to push her to practice, and she looks forward to lessons every week. Scott is really great with kids -- patient, encouraging, friendly, and fun. He's very flexible with scheduling, too. I highly recommend him!

From the moment you meet Dennis, you know he has "that musical something." Dennis' teaching style is genuine, present, and easy to understand. Further, he has the ability to take his natural gift for music, schooling, and experience in the studio to help you create a musical journey and to capture sound like no one else can. "Once you go Terry, you never leave.

I've been taking lessons with Terry for about 5 years now. I've become a very skilled guitar player in these 5 years. Through Terry, I've learned my fretboard up and down, know how to use scales to improvise solos, and especially learned how to play heavy metal. He is an extremely talented musician. Not only does he teach you your instrument of choice, he gives you knowledge of music theory. Not because he feels like he has to, because he wants to. He is in my opinion one of the most valued teachers in Michigan. Go with Terry, you will not be disappointed."

Kids' Guitar Lessons: How Often Should My Child Practice?

Odds are that if your child is taking guitar lessons, your child chose to play the instrument. Unlike stringed instruments, piano, and classical instruments, kids usually choose to start playing guitar. Kids guitar lessons are a great start, especially when they are geared to your child’s age, but the only way your child will really progress with the guitar is through regular practice. Practicing is a unique challenge when it is an instrument that a child chooses to play. People tend to …
