I have a degree in guitar performance at MI in Hollywood Ca. I am in 3 gigging bands here in the DFW area.

About Ben
Hello, my name is Ben and GUITAR IS MY BUSINESS...AND MY BUSINESS IS GOOD so please consider me. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years and have been in playing bands for 12 years. Recently after the band broke up, I decided to further my education and went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. There I was taught by the best guitar players in the world. Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Johnny Hiland were just a few of the great players who gave clinics there. I received a degree in Guitar Performance and the knowledge I received there made me UNDERSTAND the mystery that is the guitar.

I can teach Rock/Metal, Country (lead and rhythm), Blues, Alternative, Acoustic, Classical, Chord Melody, Melodic Soloing, Twang, Chords, Scales, Modes, Many different lead and rhythm techniques a
nd more importantly any song you want to go over.

I feel learning to play your favorite songs is the most important and the most fun about guitar playing. After playing songs, some of the information given (scales, chords, theory, ear-training) starts to make some since and you begin to slowly figure the guitar out.

Theory and Ear-training I feel are very important to learn when trying to understand music. It just gives you a basic mathematical way of understanding how music works. It can be very frustrating to learn and takes some time to sink in so if you don't want to learn it then that is great. Ear-training is cool because when you start to understand it you can actually hear music and not just listen to it. You can listen to a chord progression on the radio and go home and play it and also improvise over it.

I encourage BEGINNERS through EXPERT to at least hear what I have to say. I have A LOT of information to give about the guitar. I played for ten years made 2 demo CDs, one full length album, another demo specifically for Metal Blade Records, was in a big cover band and so I thought I knew it all and was a great guitar player. Then I went to GUITAR SCHOOL in Hollywood and reality hit me.
I wasn't as good as I thought. When you hear the best guitar players in the world everyday for a year and a half like I did at Musicians Institute it makes you want to be better and practice, practice, practice. I learned everything there about guitar and music and I know the Right way to teach.

Please consider me for your guitar teacher I will make it fun and a good learning experience as well.

Thank you,
Ben

*** Lesson Details ***
It depends on what level the student is on and that is where we will go with the lesson. If you are a beginner we will start with the very basics. I try to make it to where you can easily understand everything taught. The most important part of the lesson is you are having fun with playing the guitar and also getting as much information as possible. Upper level students may want to go over a song they are learning or want to know about theory or chords. Usually we will talk about where you are at with your playing and then go from there.

Thanks.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic and electric guitar PA system, small amplifier for student

*** Travel Equipment ***
Books and paper. They should have guitar and pick

*** Specialties ***
Teaching Rock, metal, country lead, blues, ear training, theory solo improvization. Scales and chords and how they go together. Melodic soloing and chord melody. Can teach out of a book and can read music. But most importantly have fun and learn cool songs

I'll help you build your confidence and presence on stage, whether you're performing for an intimate crowd, a nerve-wracking audition, or a large crowd!

About Carol
On singing and performing: I've been a musician for a very long time and can testify that music heals on a mind, body, and soul level! Though my official performances in front of audiences started with playing woodwind instruments such as clarinet, sax, and flute from elementary school through high school in band, and simple piano accompaniment for my small singing groups, my primary instrument in earnest has been voice for the past 32 years.

However, my Mom told me that I have actually been singing--well, humming (a recognizable tune at that!)-- since I was nine months old. I've lead numerous solos in small ensembles and large choirs over the years, and was very involved not only with the adult music ministry at my church, but directed the children's choir as well. I'm a huge fan of arranging and creating harmonies for duets, trios, a
nd small groups. I’ve shared the stage with Erykah Badu, Ruben Studdard, Rickey Dillard, Chrisette Michele, Ledisi, Peabo Bryson, and CeCe Winans.

I love musical theater, and my favorite credit has to have been when I played the role of "Mama" in Once on This Island (though Nunsense runs a very close second!).

I have a strong passion for the arts--music in particular, and have the musical talent and enthusiasm to guide, empower, and improve the vocal tone, agility, flexibility, projection, and pitch for the willing student. The ideal student will already be able to match pitch, however.

*** Music Lesson Details ***
Every student is different--diversity is the spice of life! I tend to tailor my teaching style to the needs of the student. I do expect each student to work on their craft outside of "class" (even if it's just 10-15 minutes of practice a day) and come eager to learn. My teaching style is a co-creative process when it comes to helping students reach their goals. My demeanor is gentle and humor-filled, yet firm. Whether you're preparing for an audition (with all the mental, emotional, and physical energy and health that goes into it), want to hone your harmonizing skills, or just want to strengthen what's already inside of you to the next level for fun, I can help!

It's very important for my students to have a lot of fun as they are singing into their power and gaining more confidence not only in their vocal tone, projection and pitch, but in life as a whole!

*** Specialties ***
My specialties are gospel, pop, R&B, vocal harmonies in small and large groups, and jazz, though I have been classically trained by some of the best vocal coaches over the years.

On piano: Vocalists have asked me over time to teach them the basics on piano to help them read music and accompany themselves by knowing the correct chords. It's a non-traditional approach that combines piano books appropriate for the situation as well as creative ways to play contemporary tunes simply by knowing the chord progressions. So the students learn music theory and harmony in the context of piano that can be applied vocally as well.

On being an economist: Economics has been my trade and training since 1993. I've been an analyst at the Florida Legislature as well as consulted in the private sector, but my first love has always been teaching. I've been teaching the intro to micro- and macroeconomic classes consistently since the beginning of 2007 at Southern Methodist University. The algebra comes up a lot in these classes, so I've often ended up tutoring students one one in algebra as well. I was thrilled when TakeLessons added academic tutoring to their offerings in addition to music lessons. :)

***Economics and Algebra Lesson Details***

My students range in varying analytical and mathematical ability, so I meet them where they are when they come to office hours. Sometimes it just takes creating something concrete and practical from something that appears to be quite abstract. Sometimes it's catching up on the math. My approach is the same for any one-on-one endeavor outside the classroom. My goal is for each of my students to succeed!

Yana Giles has been the best piano teacher I have ever taken lessons from out of all 5 teachers I've had. She is patient, encouraging and motivational through every piece she assigns me. My appreciation for music grew an enormous amount after beginning lessons with her. My hand technique improved, as well as performance ability. I recommend her to anyone looking to learn the piano! I can teach a student how to express their repertoire and improvisations in a professional manner.

About Perry
Hello!

My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In addition, I have taken masterclasses w/ many professional guitarists in all styles such as the flamenco guitarist Miguel Antonio.

I am familiar with all styles. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.

I teac
h beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric guitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.

My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas and Paco de Lucia.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, and SRV to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.

As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.

I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.

My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.

I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
Emphasis on classical posture and technique.
Emphasis on sight-reading.
All students learn to play basic blues and jam
Technique varies depending on the particular style the student wishes to learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I presently don't teach in my home studio. I can bring a folding music stand or extra footstool if necessary.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as copied exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulf of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Moog Guitar, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also the sonic-aural language of music.

About Carl
As far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed performing music. I can remember during my elementary school years how I would play drums during church service. Some days I would sneak in my dad's closet to play his saxophone. I began learning how to play saxophone in middle school and by the time I was in high school I was learning piano, performing jazz, and composing music.
I went on to get a Bachelor of Music at the University of North Texas. I have been performing professionally for over 18 years. I also have taught band for 11 years in Dallas ISD. I enjoy teaching and mentoring other up and coming musicians. It's a joy to see another world open up to them through music.
Through my warm and positive personality and experience as a certified music teacher and music performer, I understand how to meet the social and education
al needs of each music student. I am well versed at solving problems and helping students thrive and reach their full potential. I think that I do this best by personalizing the instruction experience for each unique situation. I love to encourage students and help them discover the music in them.

For all my students, I will dedicate my teaching to make sure you not only learn to love music but also learn to excel in piano. I have expertise helping beginners of all ages learn to play classical, modern, and jazz music.

For the students that wish to perform in competitions, you can expect to learn the same material I learned in order to be a performer in all the local competitions.

About Dustin
Here me play! soundcloud.com/dbward/rachmaninoff

Update: After helping teach some amazing students in Coppell, Dustin relocated to Southlake where he is now accepting students. Thank you to all my students in Coppell who grew to love piano with my teaching. I also grew to care about them and their love of music!

Original: Dustin W. became interested in piano while growing up with music in the home. His eldest brother was an accomplished pianist from an early age so it was an easy choice for Dustin to also study music at age 10. Piano is something Dustin had always enjoyed since he had a good sense for musicality as well as technical ability. While in high school, Dustin not only played for the school choir but also played int he jazz band as well as sang bass in his school's Chamber ensemble. Dustin has experience with piano since 1
997 and since 2008 with voice.

While attending Pepperdine University in 2005 on full merit/music scholarship, Dustin began to give piano lessons to young students in the area as well as his fellow classmates who needed help on improving their performance. This allowed Dustin to hone his skills in teaching both beginner and advanced level students. Dustin has received several awards for his piano performance ability, most namely his graduation from the California Certificate of Merit at age 18 as well as several other competitive awards in the concerto, Bach, and sonata competitions. Currently Dustin continues to study piano to test out his new teaching ideas as well as reinforce the skills learned through his piano career. He mostly plays for his students as well as his young son Landon so his kids can grow up in a musical environment.

The highlight of his music career is that he has been able to take what was taught to him by his favorite and very accomplished teacher, Mr. Krystrof Brzuza, and apply that to his own students. This helped him be a teacher to many wonderful students he picked up over the years. Dustin has also taught piano in Shanghai where he built up a full studio in 5 years. The saddest part for Dustin when leaving Shanghai was leaving his piano studio. Some of Dustin's students have gone on to study various majors with musical minors due to Dustin bringing out their love of music. Some of Dustin's students had gone on to study various majors with musical minors due to Dustin bringing out their love of music. Other students were much younger and would be left with another bright teacher in Shanghai. Having wonderful students is why he began teaching, having them grow to love music and continue music throughout their life is why he continues to teach. As long as he can help his students learn to not only enjoy music but to keep it with them their entire lives, then he know that he has been successful with that student whether they are 6 years old or 56 years old.

Feel free to listen to a recording of me playing a Rachmaninoff Moment Musical during my Junior year at university.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginners to Intermediate I use the Bastien piano books which I have found have the best balance for teaching both technical ability as well as love of music and song.

For advanced students I focus on tailor-making the repertoire to fit what kind of music my student enjoys as well as will improve them in technical/musical areas that are lacking. Generally I follow the one from each of the major periods plan for older students, e.g. 1 Baroque, 1 Classical, 1 Romantic, 1 Contemporary. This gives each student a good exposure to different types of compositions as well as experience in playing varied types of music.

*** Specialties ***
While experienced in teaching young students to love music, Dustin specializes in take intermediate students who are skilled and turning them into advanced Pianists who will both excel at piano performance as well as learn to love piano for the rest of their lives.

In my opinion, I have very little natural talent for music. I hadn't played an instrument with any proficiency in the past. Well, I had played air guitar and guitar hero before, but neither of them really prepared me for actually playing a guitar. Sometimes I'd sing in the safety of my commute to work, but that's about it.

Riley helped me pick a guitar, gave me a book, and play along recordings. He had me playing classic chords in about two lessons. I can now read guitar music and have come up with some of my own tunes. I wasnt a very good student at first, but I showed up for my lessons. Just that took me a long way until I actually wanted to practice and really started to enjoy my guitar.

I was missing something in my life - all I did was work, eat, and sleep. I hadn't considered music as an outlet. My wife just signed me up one night and then told me I was going to learn something new. I was kind of mad at her at first (and hence my resistance to practicing), but I'm really glad she did that for me - and I thank her every time I play guitar.

Riley is great - he has a ton of patience with me. Considering that he went to one of the best guitar schools in the country (MIT/GIT), and can pretty much play wherever he wants, this really shows how much he loves to teach. Riley can play the obscure tune, pop, metal, classical guitar (he's got me on Beethoven now), and he even played yngvei with serious proficiency. The man has mastered the guitar and wants to teach. He is a working musician, and has had gigs every week that I've known him. He understands the music business, so he can give sound advice if you want a music career. So far as lessons go, it's just a matter of practicing what he tells you. There is no guitar, amp, or pick that can make you sound better. But Riley can.

I wish I (or my wife) had signed me up a long time ago. Best money I spend each month. Anyway, I better get back to practicing.

Maureen was fantastic!
She has immediately recognized by weak spots and put me to work on improving. She gave me a lot of Vocal warm ups to help where I'm not confident in, and never pushed me to the point of Vocal hurt. I absolutely loved working with her. She is very knowledgeable about the voice and knows her music and breaking things down!

I have learned under many great saxophonists including members of the One O'clock jazz band, Airmen of Note and Saxophone conservatory in Belgium.

About Jack
I am a TCU Music Education major with a passion for teaching. I have experience teaching marching band and saxophone lessons at Arlington Heights High School and want to gain more students. I am very patient with students and I can't wait to pass on as much knowledge as I can. I know I am younger than most teachers on this site, but I feel that I can relate to younger students and become more than just a teacher.

Music Criticism: How To Handle a Critical Audience
