About Rob
I have been playing guitar since August 1992. I cut my teeth on the alternative music that was popular at the time (Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Nirvana) but soon began to focus on earlier movements, specifically the playing styles and mindsets of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Eric Clapton. I formed a band in 1996 and began gigging in Austin and throughout Texas. During this time, I immersed myself in jazz and did everything I could to bring the sonic palettes of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis into my playing, even taking up saxophone and piano in order to better understand what they were doing.

I eventually moved back to my hometown of Lubbock, where I graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in English and a minor in Music, having played guitar and saxophone in the Jazz Band in addition to taking s
everal classes in theory. During this time, I was giving private lessons in Lubbock and setting up arts education programs at the Lubbock Boys & Girls Club and The Buddy Holly Center. Since then, I have started a family and begun writing fiction, both of which have given me a much wider spectrum through which to channel my songwriting.

*** Lesson Details ***
These are your lessons. I see my role as being nothing more than helping you get to the place that you want to be, in whatever fashion and at whatever pace that you set. While it would be disingenuous to say that I don't take pride in watching my students succeed, I believe that the instructor should only be as concerned with measurable results as the student. If the student wants to learn three scales and two songs every week, then it's the instructor's responsibility to have those ready to go, along with a few suggestions for additional work. If the student wants to learn a few chords and then spend ten minutes talking about Led Zeppelin, it's their dollar and their time to spend however they wish.

All of which to say, my teaching style varies dramatically from student to student. It can be laid-back, strict, calm, or rapid-fire, depending on the learning environment that the student prefers. My experience is that this approach leads to the greatest level of student satisfaction, which I consider to be of the utmost importance.

*** Studio Equipment ***
1 Paul Reed Smith, 1 Fender Stratocaster, 1 Jasmine Takamine 12-string, 1 Alvarez acoustic 12-string, 1 Jasmine Takamine 6-string, 1 Montana electric/acoustic bass, 1 '75 Gibson SG electric bass, 1 88-key electric piano, 100-watt Fender Twin tube amp, 35-watt Mesa-Boogie solid-state amp, 1 Fender bass, 1 Yamaha tenor saxophone

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have an acoustic guitar and I could provide one for the student, though he or she is not going to get very far without one to spend hours practicing on outside of the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I'm best at teaching students music what they want to learn. I specialize in rock, blues, beginning to intermediate jazz, songwriting, and music theory in general.

Great teacher. I'm a total beginner on piano and Leanna has consistently been patient and brought me along at what feels like a very reasonable pace through the fundamentals and basic pieces. She consistently has good tips and helps me work through issues with what feel like very intuitive solutions. Would definitely recommend her to anyone else looking to pick up piano, and would have to imagine she'd be similarly excellent to students who are further along than I am.

I was an engineering tutor at University of Texas at Austin from 2006-2009. I graduated from UT with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009. I am very familiar with the UT engineering courses (from the beginning to the end).

While I was at UT, I also studied jazz drumming with Brannen Temple. I have been playing professionally for over ten years with lots of different bands. Teaching and playing music are the most gratifying things for me. But I also like to teach math!

I have been teaching high school math, physics, and music theory at Premier High School of North Austin for five years (2009-2014). I am a certified teacher by the state of Texas.

I am a young energetic pianist, anxious to pass on my passion and love for music. I began my journey through the wonders of music at the age of seven. My first year as a piano student, I absolutely loathed it. I was frustrated and didn't understand the time and effort I had to put in to be able to play like the pros. However, thanks to an amazing teacher and proper guidance, I now love playing and teaching piano as well as guitar and voice. I continue to further my musical education in composition and theatre. I look forward to meeting you!

Victoria was a good choice to get my child off the ground in her piano instruction. She helped give my daughter confidence (which is saying something, as my daughter is a perfectionist and therefore very insecure) through her friendly, patient approach. Though I had higher expectations with regards to disciplines like posture, proficiency development through things like scales/arpeggios/drills, or development of sight reading, as I had in my own musical upbringing (though I practiced under one of the top violin instructors in Seattle) I'm nonetheless grateful to have started the first few years of beginner lessons to give my child sheer enjoyment of music performance, as Victoria clearly has a love for music herself. I'm also very grateful that she was willing to drive all over Austin to meet in homes, as that was invaluable for my schedule. Thanks a lot, Victoria!

About Carolyn
Hi, I grew up in Northern California in a family of Texan musicians, who knew from the start I'd be a musical trouble maker. From my early days of Suzuki violin, to marching band, and then to bluegrass and Billie Holiday, I make myself musically at home wherever there's a groove. Now a graduate of Berklee College of Music, and an active part of Berklee's American Roots program, I'm a recipient of the Fletcher Bright Scholarship Award, a 2015 Freshgrass Fiddle Competition finalist, and two-time participant in the Acoustic Music Seminar at the Savannah Music Festival. Most recently, my project The Page Turners has been given the 2016 Freshgrass Best Duo Award. I've performed widely at festivals across the United States such as Grey Fox, the Three Sisters Festival, Berkeley Bluegrass Festival and Newport Folk Festival, as well as endeavors
abroad with the Nairobi Symphony. I've performed with many beloved artists, such as Bruce Molsky, Aoife O'Donovan, Joe Walsh, and Darol Anger. I have been teaching all ages and abilities for 7 years, all over the country. My favorite things are cooking, two-stepping, and hanging out with dogs. Carolyn is moving into Austin, TX in the Fall of 2017.
