Students will be taught an in-depth comprehensive curriculum covering topics such as hand technique, using many rudiments and many sticking exercises to develop their technique. We will focus on reading skills and rhythmic interpretation (listening), counting out rhythms so that the student can also educate themselves when listening to music or otherwise, and can go beyond specific lessons assignments to educate themselves further, outside of our class.
We will also cover Drum Set coordination and many styles of music associated with it.

About Carl
Carl grew up in Connecticut in a musical family. He found a great deal of enjoyment starting Drum Lessons in grade school where he noticed that this joy for music and rhythm contributed to a passion-inspired growth accelerating beyond his performance in other subjects. He was inspired by Classic and Progressive Rock artists throughout Junior High and High School, and began to take his growing passion more seriously, taking part in Marching, Symphonic bands, Wind and Jazz Ensembles. Carl made the All-State Orchestra in High School, and performed at an All-New England Orchestra while attending CCSU (Central Connecticut State University) and while studying Classical Percussion (Snare Drum, Marimba, Timpani) under the tutelage of Principal Percussionist at the Navy Coast Guard. After two years at CCSU, he transferred to Berklee College
of Music where he obtained his BA in Music Performance. While attending Berklee Carl explored Contemporary Drum Set styles within various ensembles and classes, focusing on Jazz, Latin, Funk, Fusion, and World Music, under the apprenticeship of artists such as Kenwood Dennard, Ian Froman, Jon Hazilla, Nancy Zeltsman, Casey Scheuerell.
Carl currently teaches at Needham Public Schools as well as the Winchester Community Music School, and performs in and around Boston and New England in various stylistic musical groups ranging from small Combo Jazz, Big Band, Folk, Funk, Indie Rock, Theatre, etc. Some latest projects include ‘Echo and Drake’ who were featured in ‘Paste’ and ‘American Songwriter’ Magazines, ‘Zen Carnival’, Mamadou(.com) to name a few.

Carl’s role as a teacher is to create as much of a positive blend of education with an exciting musical environment, incorporating the latest contemporary music (student and teacher influenced) while also applying a broad scope of traditional styles, techniques, and exercises for developing a well-rounded musical experience and musician, and with the goal of assisting the student in reaching their highest potential and to become as self-reliant as possible.

Ryan's style is relaxed and friendly. He walked carefully and deliberately through the material in the first lesson, but not so slow that it was boring.

I have mostly taught beginner drummers to get the basics down. -separating the limbs to work independently - rudiments - basic beats and grooves used in popular music - and how to read it and write it on paper if you are interested.

also - "how to count" ...and "understanding song structure"

I have also worked with a few excellent, established drummers on "what to play in the studio" and how to be a good session player...how to be consistent and simplify.... etc

About Billy
I teach my students how to understand how music is put together so they can learn even more on their own.

I read, write, and play all styles and I focus on teaching the student fundamentals that work in all styles of music ....AND I get them going on the style they are interested in - pop, rock, country, folk, etc.

I have spent my entire life in the music industry and I can show you how to use what I teach to apply to the real world. I have also been a successful songwriter and I can work with students to learn about song structure and song writing.

I am also good at preparing students for college music classes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to break it down into small steps and accomplish them, then move on to the next.

Each person learns differently and I am good at connecting with how you learn - then we can use a boo
k or CD or not according to your needs.

I have several books to choose from as well as CDs and other tools. BUT .....some things are learned best through 1 on 1 instruction and explanation without a book.

I like to see progress every week and I usually do.

*** Studio Equipment ***
recording studio w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student needs instrument only to start and discuss from there.
I have many tuners, metronomes, props, books, etc

*** Specialties ***
I teach using modern popular songs as vehicles but back up examples with theory and some reading and ear training.
I usually get quick results and my students can understand the music as well as play it.

Understanding and feeling time signature, arrangements from various genres, grooves, subdivisions, stick drills, accents, and musicality.

About Joel
I started playing recognizable melodies on the piano at 18 months old. At that time I was told that I even had perfect pitch. By age 5, my mother started giving me classical, gospel, and improvisational lessons. I was one of her 50 students until my senior year in high school. Through elementary, junior high, and high school, I received a lot of performance experience from school marching/concert bands, choirs, church choirs, piano concerts, band/choral conducting, and composing.

I received my BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington; through college and to the present, I have received over 25 years of performing/directing experience from overseeing two mega-church music ministries. At these ministries, I served as the department head, responsible for lead piano, directing, arranging, worship leading, and departmen
tal oversight.

I have produced 10 personal instrumental projects, and I have produced and recorded over 40 projects for other local, regional, and international artists. I currently travel with national, jazz, recording saxophonist, Joseph Vincelli, and my personal band Zamar. We have performed with a number of acts from Kirk Franklin, Darren Rahn, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Fred Hammond, and many more.

As an instructor, I have been blessed with an ability to be relatable, relevant, musical, creative, fun, and engaging. I understand the language of music as a performer, and instructor, but most importantly, I value the ability to help the student find their own path of learning the joy of making music vocally and instrumentally. With over 18 years of private teaching experience and 30 years of group experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge on how to be instructive and personal with the young or older beginner, intermediate and even advanced players. Let's grow together musically.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very laid back, although goal-oriented. We have fun while seeing progress. For piano, I typically use the Alfred Series "Alfred Basics 1 - 6" or the Adult All-in-One for the Older Beginner. In the first 3 - 6 months, one will become familiar with basis technics and concepts behind creating music. These concepts will be the foundation behind learning how to read music, play by ear, and create your own songs in any style.

We would move a little faster for the older beginner and work through the Alfred's All in One in conjunction with introducing my 5 steps to performance for any popular style. These steps have been very valuable for those that are wanting to play piano, guitar, bass, or even sing.

For vocalist, I work through Estelle Liebling, Vocal Course, Alfred Piano (as an instrumental reference) and a number of practical performance techniques that I have gained over the years to sing in more of a pop, jazz, gospel setting. We will work on performance techniques and develop the ear to gain confidence to perform in various popular settings. I will also introduce creative ways to make up original music using basic theory and ear training.

Acoustic Piano, Yamaha MOXF8, Roland Fantom, Protools 9, Logic ProX, Midi Keyboards, Bass Mod 5 String Bass, Acoustic and Electric Guitar, and Tama Drum Kit.

I have been professionally teaching the drums for over fifteen years, both privately and at a variety of schools including Northfield Mount Hermon and Deerfield Academy. My teaching method strives to combine requisite skill building work and technical refinement (notably in the areas of rudiments, time keeping, and independence) with a focus on musical implementation of said technique in a variety of settings/genres, and an awareness of how to play with other performers and effectively use your skills to create an evocative (rather than simply challenging or impressive) performance.

A huge part of our lessons will involve listening to and learning how to play a diverse repertoire of music, from contemporary pop, and hip-hop to 70's era funk and soul, to 60's jazz and rock, curated to match each student's interests, while also exploring new material that they may never have had the chance to encounter before. Depending on the student, we may also delve into part-writing for ...

About Nathan
Teaching and playing music have always been closely linked for me throughout my career. I began performing professionally at thirteen, and two years later began giving private lessons, constantly incorporating new techniques and lessons I was learning from my gigs into my teaching curriculum. This early start in both areas has provided a wonderful foundation for my teaching and performing careers, both of which have continued for more than a decade and a half. During that time, I've had the joy of working with students of all ages as a drum instructor at Northfield Mount Hermon, a music teacher at Greens Farms Academy, a general music and chorus teacher at Amherst Middle School, a summer music instructor at Deerfield Academy, and with continued private lessons. I've also recorded drums on over 20 albums and played hundreds of shows with a
diverse group of artists across the country.

In my lessons, my highest priority is meeting students at their level and making sure that our work is helping them to progress towards theirs goals as a musician/instrumentalist. With a combination of focus on musicality, technique, and developing a musical vocabulary, students will both improve their fundamental skills on their instrument, while also expanding their more general musical understanding, all within a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment. I look forward to working with you!

Hey folks, Ive been slamming my drums for about 20 years, I have a fun exciting approach to teaching. Sometimes it can be boring to get bogged down with rudiments and classic drum lesson material, Im not that kind of teacher. I have a back round in psychology as well as music, and I understand the importance making any subject exciting to the audience. So heres my approach laid out below in a few easy steps.

1. Ask you what music you love, and what are some songs you want to learn how to play.
2. While helping you to rock out to your favorite songs, like a pro, I will be assessing certain chops you need to work on.
3. Slowly work in some basic drum rudiment work, to help you play the songs you love even better, and add in some of your own flare.
4. Eventually have you perform one of your songs live in front of friends and family, if you feel up to it.
5. Continue to build your skills in an organic, fun, engaging , performance goal focused teaching method that I truly believe in.

I have been teaching privately for over 9 years and playing since the age of 6. My studies have taken me through music performance programs at William Paterson University, Manhattan School of Music, and The Drummers Collective. I've performed at venues throughout the country in a wide variety of musical settings (jazz, rock, theater, marching band, etc). Lessons are focused on each individual student's musical interests and a strong foundation on the instrument. From beginners to professionals, lessons will be tailored to fit the student's needs and goals.

About Steven
My name is Steven Crammer and I am professional drummer and teacher based in New York City. I have a B.M (jazz performance) from William Paterson University, a certificate from Drummer's Collective, and am working towards my M.M. (jazz performance) from Manhattan School of Music. I have performed around the country in a wide variety of musical settings (jazz, rock, theater, marching band, etc.) and taught privately for 9 years, as well as given clinics/masterclasses.

Although my formal education is focused on jazz, I perform and teach many styles of music. I am as comfortable playing/teaching rock and metal as I am with jazz and world music. Beginners to advanced players are all welcome,

The lessons are flexible based on each student's specific needs and interests. I want the student to have a relationship with music and the instru
ment. We will work on building a strong foundation (technique, groove, time) as well as being creative and working towards the student's personal musical goals.
