I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :)
I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. This is also determined by your dedication to daily practice (the more you practice, the quicker you will progress & the more accomplished you will become). This is a 'Team Effort'; I give the guidance and tools. You practice, utilize learn these tools, and off we go! The sky is the limit!

Rina is a fabulous instructor. My son originally contacted Rina after researching piano teachers in our area. She came highly recommended and as a result he gave me a gift of five piano lessons to start. I became hooked; I've been with Rina for well over a year now and thoroughly enjoy learning. Her background in music is broad and she is creative in her approach to teaching.
The experience has been extremely rewarding for me and I look forward to continuing my journey into piano with Rina for many sessions to come.

I like to begin with the Essential Elements series. I have had a lot of success with my beginners in this series. I also encourage my oboists to bring and play with a tuner. Having a great ear for pitch is absolutely necessary for playing the oboe.

About Lisa
I have been a music teacher and private lesson instructor for the past 20 years. I have a bachelor of science degree in Music Education and hold a teaching certificate for all-level Music Education. In my private studio I have taught students from 3-70 and have enjoyed them all! In addition to teaching music I also serve as the Music Minister for my church. Students coming to me can expect a tremendous amount of experience as well as a committed, honest and caring teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning piano students at the pre-reading level (ages 3-6ish) I like to use the Faber "My First Piano Adventure" series. I love that this series enforces solid technique in a fun, child-friendly way.

For older beginners and players with some piano I like the Alfred series, supplemented, of course, with songs/styles of music that i
nterest the student.

Guitar: I've found that guitar method books are nearly as diverse as the guitarists that play them! That being said, I typically start with the Essential Elements for guitar for a solid introduction to music reading and a touch of theory.

Depending on the style of play the guitarist is interested in I move on from there. Mel Bays Classical method is always a solid choice as is the Christopher Parkening Guitar method. I also have a few tab oriented books and some rock/blues oriented books.

For clarinet and oboe students I like to compliment what their band/orchestra director is using when possible. I also love the Klose method for clarinet. The Rubank is also a tried and true book I use. I've had a lot of success with these books.

Of course the best method books are for naught without adequate practice time! When theory and technique work get too dry it's always fun to throw in some fun selections to compliment the "work."

Voice students are a bit different in that I don't use a specific method to instruct. I have many books that I draw from when teaching voice due to the unique nature of the individual. Depending on the style of music, from classical to jazz/pop, I have music that will teach proper breath support, vowel placement and tone.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio: converted dining room with 3 guitars, young percussion instruments, upright piano and f/w keyboard. Seating available for parents.
Music ministry at First Christian Church in Terrell. Access to choir room with upright piano. Seating available for parents.

*** Specialties ***
Degree in all-level music education with specialty in voice.

Mrs. Lisa was absolutely a joy to work with. My granddaughter was visiting for a few days when she mentioned she would like guitar lessons. A few calls later we had lessons set up with Mrs. Lisa. Michelle was so excited when she finished her first lesson and said, "Mrs. Lisa is just like my Aunt Jenn.. She is sweet, kind, she encouraged me and made me feel like I could learn to play my guitar."
Thank you Mrs. Lisa...I believe you may have "hooked" her.

Very detail driven lesson to insure growth and success in music. Having fun is always key!

About Garrett
My name is Garrett. I am originally from Southern California where I grew up constantly around music. My mother being a pianist, I started at a young age. After a few years and a few different instruments, I fell in love with the Oboe. I was fortunate to have great teachers through middle school and high school and I ended up making my way to college on a Music Scholarship. Studying mainly classical music, I did have my chances to explore various genres and perform all over California as well as various cities in the US. I am very passionate and love to teach. I look forward to the possibility of teaching/coaching young or old musicians here in California.
