*** Travel Equipment ***

Learn to play the drums quickly!!!!

About Michael
I have many years experience as a working musician, combining: Private drum instruction, freelance studio work, and collaboration with musicians and bandmates in both a live and studio setting.

I have been a member of solid Metropolitan Detroit bands, most notably including: Friends of the Family, Night Train, and The Mobius Loop. I have been blessed with many great opportunities, most notably supporting national acts, such as: The Headhunters, Melvin Seals, Mofro and Strange Folk. And, I have recorded at excellent Metropolitan Detroit studios, including: Studio N Armada, Riff Lab Studios, Woodshed Studios and The Disc. Most recently, I participated in two separate studio/recording projects, with producer/multi-instrumentalist Joshua Michael Ackermann, and with producer/sound engineer Dan Lesnick. Along with teaching drum lessons, I
love to supplement my income with this type of studio work. I am also presently collaborating on original material, with a newly formed rock band, yet to be named. I am very excited about this and hope to get in the studio and to be gigging, in the near future!

I am looking to add dedicated students to my current roster. I took private instruction, studying under two EXCELLENT drummers from the Detroit Metro area: Darryl Pierce and Donny Gruendler. Mr. Pierce (among many other accomplishments) currently tours internationally and nationally with a well known artist by the name of Bettye LaVette. This group has made frequent television appearances, including: David Letterman and Austin City Limits. Mr. Gruendler, is currently the Vice President of Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and he has been featured in several Modern Drummer publications.

I have learned a great deal through private instruction, and therefore teach from experience. I utilize and apply many of the techniques that I personally found useful; through my own private instruction. References from teachers, students, producers, and bandmates can be provided on request.

Mike is a great drummer! He helped me with basic rhythm and techniques to build my skills. One unique benefit is Mike offers students to practice at his studio (for a fee) before/after the lesson. This was super helpful to me since I don't have an acoustic drum set and practicing right afterwards kept the material fresh on my mind. He also explains music concepts very clearly, and answers my questions in depth! I would recommend him to all ages for drum lessons!

I have been playing drums for 18 years, and have been teaching 11 years.

I have tons of energy during lessons that mixes well for the younger students.
For older students I have the chops to catch their attention.

My curriculum ranges on the needs of the student. I have everything from developing better grooves, more independence, chops, or simply learning how to play different styles.
My goal during my lessons is dependent on the student. Not only do I want to help achieve personal goals, but I too want to help give the gift of being able to develop personal style. I feel that as a teacher, when my student is capable of achieving their playing desire on their own, I have enabled them to be a life long self sufficient musician.

My teaching style is very informative and demonstrative. I love being able to view the problems the student is facing and create a lesson to help overcome those obstacles.

About Jeremiah
As a Musicians Institute graduate, I've learned from exceptional drummers in the Los Angeles music industry. I gained and learned many tricks of the trade and can offer the same quality education to anyone. As a student myself, I realized that having great sound, solid timing and groove are just as essential as having cool beats to play. There are more technicalities to drumming than being able to play fast or having the best chops.
Aside from learning how to play drums, knowing how to think about music, how to listen to music, and how to study music will give a great foundation to any student of any style.

I first like to determine the students ability and understanding by working on a few coordination exercises and reading exercises.
From a good foundation, I build a curriculum, and deter any obstacles by constantly changing my
approach to further and benefit the student playing.

Patricia is an AMAZING teacher.

Personality: She is very welcoming, warm, funny and just a positive person to be around which bodes very well when it comes to learning and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Knowledge: Just by looking at her credentials you know that she has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to music. However, her greatest gift is being able to relay all of that information to someone who may not have a very strong musical background. She is also very adept at making connections making the learning process fun and understandable.

Lessons: I have been taking lessons with Patricia for months now for voice. The greatest part of the lessons are that she does not only focus on improving your voice on a technical level. She helps with mental preparation, ear training, music theory and great deal of other things which helps students to become more well rounded. I believe this also helps students to grow in their area of study much faster.

Misc: Patricia greatly encourages her students to perform. If you are not comfortable going to an open mic, Patricia hosts a performance event for her students. This provides a safe and secure environment for students to express themselves an apply what they have learned in lessons.

I recently performed and while nervous the mental preparation that I described above helped me to "put on a show". I will continue taking lessons with Patricia and I am grateful for everything I have learned and experience in my time.

Patricia is an excellent teacher for all levels. I have worked with her teaching three year old beginner drum group classes, all the way to masterclasses for college students at CUNY on techniques to use when improvising in complex time signatures. She can teach anyone! Patricia makes the lessons fun all the while you gain inspiration. I also really enjoyed the concert she hosted for her students in the Village. Sign up, you won't be disappointed.

About Rachel
I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm.

I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager.I really enjoy the art of practice and the journey of patience. The process of learning has helped me carve out and cultivate my style of music. It's opened up a lot of doors for me in my life. I've had the honor to play with a lot of great performers and have been lucky enough to tour the U.S. and Canada with festivals and showcases such as Vans Warped Tour, South By Southwest and the Halifax Pop Explosion.I've been the opening act for Carolyn Wonderland, Maria Taylor, Tsunami Bomb, Tilly and the Wall, Basia Bulat, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere. Anathallo, Cursive, Milton Hopki
ns, and Pony Up.

When I have free time I volunteer with the Houston Chapter of Girls Rock Camp to help teach girls empowerment through songwriting and music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I began teaching as an afterschool job when I was 16. I was homeschooled, so I feel that the experience taught me that everyone learns differently and that there is not just one standardized method to playing music.

My teaching style varies with each student, but the one constant is my ability to make each and every client I encounter completely fall in LOVE with music. It's my super power.

Lesson plans are tailored for your specific needs and to help you achieve your musical goals and aspirations at your desired pace. I enjoy my students and making music with them.

Here is an overview of the lessons that I provide.

Guitar:
Finger Picking, Song Writing, Rhythm, Lead, Scales,Modes & Ear Training.

Songwriting and composition: Learn techniques, how to brain storm and plot your musical story line. This class pairs great with vocal lessons or guitar lessons.

I'm a 22 year old guy who had no experience in the drum world. I found Randy through a mutual friend and asked if he could teach me. I knew he has played drums for close to 20 years and I thought he would be a great option. That was literally the best decision I've ever made. He made things so easy for me to learn. I'm now playing every week at different churches all over houston and even being booked for studio gigs. The way he teaches is so easy to understand. If you have trouble with it, not to worry, he can make it even easier for you until you do understand. He is a genius when it comes to drums. One of the best in my personal opinion and I'm sure others as well. I highly recommend him to anyone who has no idea what they're doing around the kit and even people that think they have it all figured out. Randy is for sure the way to go!
