Basic Italian vocabulary, grammar and diction.

About Bridget
I have been a professional voice, music theory and piano teacher for the last ten years, and have loved every minute of it. I am originally from Canada, and went to the University of Windsor to study vocal performance. I was given an opportunity to the study principals of classical singing and musical theater. From there, I began to work as a featured classical soloist and choral singer throughout Canada. I came to New York to continue my studies, and earned a Master of Music degree in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music.

I believe that singing lessons should be a lot of fun. With good technique, my students and I can team up to accomplish anything from singing classical songs and even some opera arias to popular songs and musical theater. It is my goal to help you discover your own personal voice, and build confidence
in your individual gifts. My students have gone on to study voice in college and university, perform in musical theater, sing in rock bands, children and adult choirs and even win a competition or two. I love hearing my students perform, and feel that an opportunity to sing in front of others builds confidence and ability. I take pride in arranging recitals for my students who would like this opportunity.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons with always begin with warm ups and technique. We'll also focus on an important principal topic, such as breath and support, vowel placement or expression. We'll use some exercises that I have already, or perhaps a new one just for your needs (once I get to know your voice) to help you achieve our goals. We'll then work on 1-2 songs. You'll probably have picked one, and I may have picked one. The concept that we worked on in our technique session will be applied directly to the songs you are working on. You can learn so many different things in each song, we may practice your songs, using a different goal in several different lessons.
All of my students get a chance to perform in occasional "vocal class" settings, where you can sing your favorite songs for one another, in a fun, laid back environment. All students are welcome to participate in an annual recital for their family and friends too! Piano lessons are designed to suit your needs. We can work on the basics for classical playing, read chords, jazz improv and more.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have my own music studio set up in my apartment. On teaching days, my living room can be a comfortable waiting room for parents/guardians. You are all most welcome to relax, have a cup of tea or coffee and listen to our lessons. I do ask that you do not sit inside the studio (at least not after the first lesson) as this can be distracting for your child. My studio is equipped with a music stand, upright piano, work sheets for theory, pencils and crayons. I also have a full Broadway and classical music library that students can borrow from, CD/DVD's that can be borrowed, and a New Grove Reference set.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring some music, until we assess the student's needs, then they may buy some books, while I provide the rest. I bring theory worksheets, stickers, pencils etc. If a student would like to sing/play a particular song (Broadway/pop etc) I may have it in my music library. If I do not, the student will need to purchase the music they would like to sing. The student would need a keyboard/piano in their home should I travel. I have a piano in my home.

*** Specialties ***
Classical singing, Musical Theater, Jazz, music for young children, pop singing, audition preparation, beginning music for adults.

Pasta. Pizza. Spaghetti. As Americans, we're pretty familiar with Italian food. But do any of us know the language? Do you know the difference between when you should say "bravo" or "brava" in a concert? Whether you need help for an exam, or are about to study abroad, I'll help you learn Italian and improve your pronunciation so that you're ready to go!

About Nicole
Nicole is available to teach lessons for students of all levels. Beginning her singing career when she was 7, she most recently sang at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, was a winner of the international CS Competition in musical theatre, and is a Chicago F.A.M.E. finalist for Jazz and popular music. Combined with her training and professional experience, Nicole teaches singers to switch gracefully between multiple styles. She practices what she preaches: one night she might be singing Beyoncé, and the next morning she might be singing Handel's Messiah!

Nicole has been a young artist for Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Metropolitan International Music Festival, and for Tiroler Opern Programm, under international instructors, including Elizabeth Bachman (from the Metropolitan Opera), Kim Josephson (Metropolitan Opera), Sharon Cheng (Caramoor),
Michael Fennely (Carnegie Hall), Wei-En Hsu (Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), and Candace Evans (Santa Fe Opera). Nicole earned her Associates in Theatre from Brigham Young University ('12) and went on to acquire her BM in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University ('14). Nicole obtained additional training from Boston University, Elon University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage.

I have taken lessons with Ronald since I was 6, I am now 23. In my 17 years of taking lessons I have learned to play piano, sing and am proficient in music theory. In the more recent years I have even had the opportunity to teach music through Ronald. Throughout the years, I have experienced and witnessed the patience and kindness Ronald consistently shows his students. He encourages his students to become better and shares in their enthusiasm due to their accomplishments. Ronald genuinely cares about his students and is dedicated to making sure his students improve. I fully recommend Ronald for students who have parents who want to be involved in the learning process and especially for young children who are just starting out. Ronald works well with families, includes parents every step of the way and is very patient with young students helping them learn in an open and encouraging environment.

Mr.Chaz is really dedicated to his profession. He started to teach my seven year old son over one year ago and he has motivated him to sing his best and he started piano with him last year which has been a phenomenal experience for my son. Chaz really focuses on the detail, theory and groundwork necessary to excel in music. If you are lucky enough to get your child started with him you will never regret the experience. He is simply the best! My son sings all the time now and loves to play piano. I am so happy for my son to have found someone to expand on his talents!

I provide customized lessons based on the student's specific need. I believe immersion is the best way to learn a language (that is how I learned English), therefore I try to minimize English interactions during the lessons. I also give practical exercises for the students to do between lessons. Unless specially requested by the students, my lessons are not grammar-heavy but are more focused on useful Italian conversations to help the students become comfortable speaking and understanding.

About Karen
My mission is to help everyone, from beginner to expert, feel comfortable engaging in Italian conversations and believing that learning a second language is not only necessary but possible!

I provide lessons to people of all ages determined to learn or improve Italian. Each lesson is customized based on the specific needs of each student and the goals they are ready to achieve.

~Parlare é la chiave per imparare~

Cancellation or reschedule policy: If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, I will be happy to do so but would require 24 hours notice prior to your scheduled lesson time.

I have a conversation-based curriculum I designed based on my 5 years of teaching introductory Italian. My lessons are fun and get you communicating in the language as quickly as possible. I love sharing knowledge! Math has always been a passion for me, and I competed in several math competitions even in elementary school. Since then I have tutored many students in math from a fourth grade level to college math. I scored a 34 on the ACT and I enjoy helping others achieve their dreams by getting college scholarships. Peter is an excellent one-on-one teacher for Italian. Based on his background, I'm not surprised to find him very knowledgable about the language as it is currently spoken. In our sessions, he often explains the nuances of words and phrases based on usage, is careful to guide correct pronunciation and adds in multiple phrases of common speech. He has assembled a workbook that is well-organized and clear; we have progressed through it week by week and it has a nice feel of building a usable knowledge of key verbs, words and phrases. Peter is great at teaching and sharing what he knows, and on top of all of this he is flexible to the student's pace, needs and interests. We paused in our progress through the workbook to focus on specific topics like directions, clothing, colors, food, the urban setting, etc. Weekly he sends me sentences via a Google doc and I work and them and send my translations into Italian back--works great! I am excited to have Peter as my teacher and I think you will be, too. I plan on working with him through the course and beyond. Grazie mille, Peter!
