Robert is very nice and polite. I think the lesson was sufficient for the first lesson. He gave me homework to work on the D, G, and C chords. We went over the right hand numbering PIMA. I need to determine what my goals are in playing the guitar.

I am very happy with my guitar lesson with Mr. Calva. He is very knowledgeable and very patient. He found out my musical background and goals. He used that to structure my lessons today. He then gave me homework, tips, and short term goals. I am super pleased with his style of teaching. By the way, I am 50 years young...

Hi there. I'm Andrew. I have been teaching for about 5 years now and it has become one of the things I truly love to do. When I am not writing, reading, gigging, touring, or recording, I love to teach people the things that have made my life so colorful.

With a little push in the right direction, you can become an active participant in the things you love. No more watching from the sidelines. Become the musician, writer, speaker, reader that you have always wanted to be. It's never too late! Trying something new or asking for help can be intimidating, but I am happy to show you that the rewards far exceed the costs. Trust me, I speak from experience (as a tutor should, I would think!). I've taught personalized lessons for over 5 years now without a single complaint. At this point in my musical career, the majority of my experience and attitude has come from being "in the field". I've played South By South West, Westheimer Block Party, opened up for bands like the Misfits and

About Andrew
Music is my life. As cheesy as that phrase goes, for me, it holds true. Everything I do and have been doing has been geared towards music. I've been in one working/gigging band or other without break for the past 10 years. I began intensely learning to play guitar at the age of 9 and have not stopped. The second I started learning I knew that that was what I wanted to do. Fast forward to now, and here I am loving every minute of it. I took lessons of my own as a kid, which helped shape me greatly. I then picked up bass at the age of 13.
I've taught personalized lessons for over 7 years now without a single complaint. At this point in my musical career, the majority of my experience and attitude has come from being "in the field". I've played South By South West, Austin City Limits, Westheimer Block Party, opened up for bands like
the Misfits and the Shins, shared the stage with bands like The Wallflowers, Minus the Bear, and Echo and the Bunnymen, and been on tour and lived the whole life more often than not!
YOU can be an active musician. If you have the passion and desire. The first step though, is learning your instrument. Learning an instrument is something that stays with you for the rest of your life. It's an unfaltering companion that can benefit you in so many ways. I like to toss out the strict "teacher/student" regiment and create a laid back, fun, easy going atmosphere. I want to be buds and SHARE music with each other and introduce you into this world that I have grown to love so so much. There is nothing more rewarding. I promise. So let's get started!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very laid back. Your progress is directly linked to you. I will give it my all to teach you and help you, but if you don't practice or soak it in, that's on you! I hate having a tense, seminar type lesson atmosphere. Lessons with me will be easy going and relaxed. I don't want to have to put on a sweater vest and wag my finger as a I scold you. That's just not me.
However, I DO expect you to get things done. Why waste your time with lessons if you're not going to take them seriously on any level? The curriculum will be totally personalized for YOU. After all, not everybody likes the same music and style. The first lesson or two will be getting a handle on exactly what YOU want to learn and what YOU want out of it. Finding out your favorite bands/artists, guitar players, bass players, etc. There's nothing worse than being taught something you have no desire for, but having it drilled into your head week after week! So whether that be blues, folk, metal, whatever, that's the first step. With that information I'll begin constructing and laying out the rest of your lesson plan.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Although I assume you have an instrument of your own (if not I recommend getting one, it sort of helps), if you're looking to just try things out at first I have more than a few extra that I'd be happy to let you use. My teaching studio doubles as a recording studio as well. This means 2 things: if ever you would like to record some of your music you know where to go! And also, I have the means to record the entire lesson if you'd like. You'll need to supply the blank CD(s) of course. It's not a requirement to record the lesson, just an option! Basically, I have everything you could ever possibly need for music lessons here. So you're set.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitars, amps, etc. anything that would be needed I've got!

*** Specialties ***
I am versed in blues, rock, metal, folk, hardcore, acoustic-finger-style and various other acoustic styles, and more. Through teaching and experience as a working musician I have mastered most genres and styles. When sitting at home jamming in my free time, I probably most frequently find myself playing acoustic finger-style, blues, folk, or hardcore, but love and appreciate most styles. So, bring it on!

He explains things in a way that makes sense to a beginner and it’s obvious that he wants to help his students become good musicians. I’m glad that I found a guitar teacher like Andrew. The Guitar is my first love. I customize every lesson for every individual student that I have, and base the heart of each lesson off of the infatuation I have for my six-stringed side kick. I love to use the guitar as a tool to expand my students creativity. My students learn to listen and appreciate a broad variety of styles and experience the full music spectrum.
Lessons will cover scales, theory, chords, jazz and blues progression as well as Crafting your tone for your amplifier, finger picking and performance techniques.

About Rachel
I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm.

I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager.I really enjoy the art of practice and the journey of patience. The process of learning has helped me carve out and cultivate my style of music. It's opened up a lot of doors for me in my life. I've had the honor to play with a lot of great performers and have been lucky enough to tour the U.S. and Canada with festivals and showcases such as Vans Warped Tour, South By Southwest and the Halifax Pop Explosion.I've been the opening act for Carolyn Wonderland, Maria Taylor, Tsunami Bomb, Tilly and the Wall, Basia Bulat, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere. Anathallo, Cursive, Milton Hopki
ns, and Pony Up.

When I have free time I volunteer with the Houston Chapter of Girls Rock Camp to help teach girls empowerment through songwriting and music.

I began teaching as an afterschool job when I was 16. I was homeschooled, so I feel that the experience taught me that everyone learns differently and that there is not just one standardized method to playing music.

My teaching style varies with each student, but the one constant is my ability to make each and every client I encounter completely fall in LOVE with music. It's my super power.

Lesson plans are tailored for your specific needs and to help you achieve your musical goals and aspirations at your desired pace. I enjoy my students and making music with them.

Here is an overview of the lessons that I provide.

Guitar:
Finger Picking, Song Writing, Rhythm, Lead, Scales,Modes & Ear Training.

Songwriting and composition: Learn techniques, how to brain storm and plot your musical story line. This class pairs great with vocal lessons or guitar lessons.

Bass:

Ukulele :

In my guitar instructions I always use methods where the student will not become bored, as I combine songs the student likes to learn, and songs I feel would be beneficial for the student to move on to the next level, and at the same time teach the theory behind the songs. I tailor each student differently with their needs and I do use a few instruction books which are mainly Mel Bay books, as I feel they are some of the best books out there, and he was my personal teacher when I started out. I also have a portable Pro Tools system which I sometimes use for recording lessions etc., which is very helpful, and can teach students recording techniques if they wish. I write original music for TV ads {jingles} which is called "Score To Picture". I have had many national and regional TV spots to my credit. I also can teach Score To Picture as I have lectured on this at the university level. I have taught for many years on and off and I enjoy it very much. I have played on major label ...

Thank you for viewing my profile for guitar instruction.
I also can teach and help with composition and "score to picture"using Pro Tools software. Please see videos in the photos video section for my national and regional original music tv ads.

The band I currently record guitars for {A Bad Think} has been placed on the 2017 Grammy ballot for "Best Rock Song", and the 58th 2016 ballot by the Grammys for "Best Music Video" with the new video "Save Us All" {see below}, which was added by MTV. In 2015 the band was on the Grammy ballot for " Best Rock Album" " Sleep" by A Bad Think.

I was born in New Jersey, and soon after moved to St. Louis where I began to play guitar at age 6 at the Mel Bay Studios from Mell Bay himself, and later from the person who taught him to play. Afte
r attending music school for a while, I moved to a recording studio in Houston Texas, where I was a session player and learned the art of recording and producing from major label producers and engineers. During this time I recorded on albums for Freddy Fender as well as other pop acts, and started my publishing company with BMI. After which I moved to Milwaukee where I meet John Tanner, an original music jingle writer, and worked with John on his projects as a guitar session player, singer, composer, audio engineer and producer.

In the middle 90's I meet up with another singer songwriter Noel Crowder during a jingle recording session. We discovered that our voices blended very well together, and decided to write and record music together. We soon added a drummer Steve Comeau, and started work on our first album which we released on our own under the band name "Feet Of Clay". During this time I met up with Stacy Heydon who was David Bowies former guitar player and a gold and platinum awarded producer, and started to play guitar for his production work with groups he was producing.

After a favourable review in Billboard Magazine, Feet Of Clay signed with a record label that had worldwide distribution through RED {SONY}. With the help of our newly acquired manager John Lay, whose English managerial team included The Police, Squeeze, The Greenberry Woods, Love Nut and Feet Of Clay, we soon completed a new album which was released worldwide via the Sony distribution system and received AAA radio airtime around the United States, Canada and Europe .

After our record deal, I resumed my session playing and private guitar instruction along with live performances in musical theatre. It was at this time I began composing, recording and performing original music for national and regional TV and radio ads on my own, as well as music for film including a Katherine Heigl movie "Side Effects", released on Warner Brothers, and became more involved with the Recording Academy, of which I am a voting Grammy member as well as being a guest speaker at the university level on the music business, score to picture, session playing, recording and music publishing.

I have recently moved from Wisconsin to Kingwood Texas with my wife in search of a warmer climate leaving behind our horse farm. My interests are animals, especially horses, history, science and anything pertaining to music with an emphasis on helping young artist within the Recording Academy with my Grammy voting member duties.

Guitar Instruction Technique

Check out the video that has been added to MTV that I play guitars on below.

In my guitar instructions I always use methods where the student will not become bored, as I combine songs the student likes to learn, and songs I feel would be beneficial for the student to move on to the next level, and at the same time teach the theory behind the songs. If the student shows interest in recording and or composition I will also teach those as well, as I have an extensive recording background. My styles are pop, rock, alternative, folk and a little country for the most part, and I enjoy teaching children just starting out and intermediate players but have had students performing at a higher level. I also bring a portable Pro Tools recording system with me for recording performances. But most importantly I like to keep the lessons fun and interesting and tailored for the individual student, as that's what music is all about.

"Billboard Magazine" calls the music of Milwaukee-based band Feet Of Clay, "Knowledgeable musicianship working together with skilful songwriting, breathy vocals, aching harmonies and irresistible melodies.

Secured international/national recording contract via RED/Sony with Feet of Clay.

Critically acclaimed articles/endorsements in internationally recognised music magazines including Billboard Magazine, Boarders Books as well as Music and Pro Sound News magazine.

Wisconsin Area Music Awards nominations including Best Songwriter and Guitar Instrumentalist.

Scored, preformed and recorded original music for the Katherine Heigl movie "Side Effects" released on Warner Brothers.

Ralph is the best kind of instructor! His knowledge of the history of the guitar is amazing coupled with patience for the beginner student. Barry's patience and creative spirit enabled me to begin really enjoying playing again. He actively listened to what I wanted to achieve and concentrated on those skills that have taken me to another level. After just a few lessons, I now play better than I ever could in my younger days. I highly recommend him for both a coach for experienced musicians and a teacher for those beginning to experience the joy of playing guitar.

I graduated with Honors earning a Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Guitar and I've been teaching since my intermediate studies practically. If you decide to start on Classical Guitar or continue, I can ensure you-you won't have any musical, technical or cultural barriers with me, also... I love to teach! So, let´s get started!

About Rogelio
I'm a composer and guitarist, and I prefer to keep it like that because there are some other qualities I could mention, as singing or producing, but these are my strengths and my passion.

I learnt almost from my self when I was 12 years old, just singing and accompanying my self, and with the years even started improvising. When I was nineteen I meet a Guitar teacher who revealed me the deep and delicate world behind this common instrument, the "Concert Guitar". So I ran and did all my elementary and middle level in few years, went to competitions, won some, and prepared my self to enter into the University, which is very difficult in where I am from, because everything depends on your talent when education is free.
Finally I entered the University of Arts in Havana, Cuba, my original country, and after four years under the guise of Mart
in Pedreira, a notable pedagog, composer and interpreter, (he wrote a book which would be the deepest investigation about the Classical Guitar technique called "Ergonomia de la Guitarra", which should be translated into English in a short time), I graduated with honors, worked as an Interpreter since then and continued composing and teaching.
You can learn all the theory with me and be sure that with discipline we can build a solid way to play.
