I am currently in the process of completing my Doctor of Musical Arts at the CUNY Graduate Center. I hope to transfer the skills and knowledge I have obtained from working with some of the most renowned harpists to my own students.
Teaching is a passion for me. Whether you are just taking lessons for fun, or whether you are serious about creating a future professional career, I will be equally attentive to your needs. I like to ensure that my students progress during the lesson, but not at the expense of having fun! I believe that a relaxed atmosphere is essential to the learning experience.
**NB: Due to COVID restrictions, I will most likely be teaching virtually until summer or fall 2021, at which point I hope to resume in-person lessons in NYC. ...

I am well trained in both pedal and Celtic harp. I love them both equally. I have years of teaching experience and am equally comfortable working with children and adults. I love the harp and I love to teach. I can help you figure out where to rent a harp to begin. Online harp lessons work great! I teach great technique so you can play the music you want. I also teach great practice skills.

As a harp teacher, all of my
students play scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises in
their lessons. I believe having a strong technical base is the foundation for
every part of playing and you can't learn without it. I will set the repertoire
for students according to their technical progress and although I may
take into consideration a student's desires to learn a certain piece, there has
to be time and they have to be ready for it. I have both short term and long
term goals for each student that involve theory, technical ability, and
repertoire both orchestral and solo. Adult students still have to learn
technique, it makes things much more fun and easy six months later, I promise! Beginning students will learn how to read notes, understand basic theory, and technique in a short amount of time, so don't be scared if you have never had a music lesson before.
I require all students make
at least an hour a day commitment to practice. I teach mostly the ...

I welcome adults and children who are new to the harp or who want to increase their skills. As a teacher, I focus on helping students be able to play the music that is interesting or fun for them. I will start with a firm background on the basics of hand position and reading music, and then we can take it away with what thrills you, whether it is pop, folk, classical, religious, or something else. I hope we can take this journey in music together!
About Mariah
I am a harpist and a scientist. At Brigham Young University, I minored in music, emphasizing in harp, while earning a geology degree. I also performed in the BYU Harp Ensemble. The formal training in harp at BYU gave me good footing in the basics of harp, complimenting my analytical bent on music.

Miss Alex is not only an amazing, patient, kind-heart, smart and trustworthy person but she is also one of the best musicians. She has a hands-on teaching style integrated with little bits of music theory. She is the best teacher I ever met. Most importantly, she treats her music and kids as part of her life not for money at all. She loves kids from bottom of her heart. I am so lucky to have her as my kids' teacher."

I'm truly grateful for all the support you showed me day by day and for having shared your passion with me."
