My experience as an electric guitar student of Justin's is nothing short of perfect for what I was looking for. Justin has a great studio with everything you'd need and is very focused on ensuring he's helping me learn what I want, not some standard, boring, antiquated way of teaching. He's got a TON of accomplishments under his belt (music and otherwise, he is also an actor!) from which to draw experience from and share with students. Very professional, personable and contemporary - IMO a perfect teacher and I'd recommend him to anyone looking for lessons!

You want to play music that means something to you. The music that moves you. I’m pretty sure it’s not Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

I promise you, no stifling method books with hokey songs and no rote practice of scales with no end in site.

We'll pick a song you want to learn.

I’ll identify the techniques you need to play it and provide you with skill building exercises. We’ll look at the structure of the song and anything else to help you learn it. If the song requires advanced techniques, I’ll break it down into what you can do now; we’ll use the remainder to guide your development.

Although you’ll follow a logical progression of skill building, I believe learning in the context of songs the student knows and enjoys is the best approach for teens and adults.

I have been teaching guitar for 10 years and have been a professional musician for the same amount of time. First and foremost I want my student to have fun while learning the guitar! I will base our lesson plans around the songs and styles you want to learn. I will write out easy to read chord charts, sheet music, tab, and even record video examples for you to reference when you are practicing at home. I have taught ages 5-70 and all levels of players from total beginners to college students majoring in music.

I have taught through the City College of New York, The Larchmont Music Academy, Music Box NYC, and tons of my own private students.

About Pat

Pat really knows his stuff with jazz guitar. My goal has been to study chord melody with some jazz standards and modal jazz, and Pat has a lot of ideas with chord shapes, voicings, scale choices and alternate and passing chords. I play a lot of rock tunes as well and I've found the lessons with Pat have really helped me expand how I look at playing those songs as well. As a teacher, Pat is really patient and provides really useful supplemental charts. Highly recommended.

Pat is the best guitar teacher I have ever had! Pat makes all the lessons super enjoyable, yet I still learnt a ton! Pat always explained everything super clearly and I had so much fun! I have learnt so much in the year I have been playing guitar and pat made that possible!

Michael is an incredible teacher. My fiance has never played a musical instrument before in his life and I got him a few lessons for his birthday. At first, I wasn't sure how virtual music lessons would go, but Michael is by all accounts, an incredibly engaging, funny, and knowledgeable instructor. My fiance looks forward to his weekly lessons with Michael. In particular, he enjoys learning about the history of this incredible instrument alongside the actual music theory and practical aspects of learning a new instrument.

It has been truly incredible to witness my fiance transform in a few short weeks from someone scared of learning a new instrument to someone who is confident that he can learn a new skill provided he puts in the time and effort to practice and show up! Michael has given him the confidence and the inspiration to make amazing progress as a student.

I highly recommend Michael as an instructor. He really makes the virtual format work and he knows how to introduce beginner musicians to the joys of learning how to express yourself on an instrument.

"After having played sax and flute for 7 years, I decided to start to learn the guitar during the quarantine. After a month of learning on my own and through apps, one of my good musician friends pushed me to seek out lessons. I had a few teachers in mind, but he told me that Charles would definitely be the best choice for me.
I have now been taking weekly lessons with him for the past three months, and my progress has skyrocketed. My guitar playing was quickly brought to the next level, and he also gave me a solid foundation in music theory that has helped me a lot on the sax and flute as well.
Charles is excellent at adapting to his student's needs and limitations. When I was traveling and had no access to a guitar, we had a lesson on facetime audio using my flute in the middle of a park, and that was one of the best I have ever had, even without video or the guitar.
Charles is a great teacher and also a great musical mentor. He will not let you stagnate, he will push you to reach your goals and provide you all the tools to do so. The homework he gives after each lesson also helps a lot to consistently reach the goals that have been set.
For any level, beginner, intermediate, or expert, I strongly recommend him to be your next guitar instructor."

"I could not be happier with Jordan as my instructor. I had tried learning the guitar several years ago and gave up after getting frustrated with my lack of progress. With Jordan's patient and professional guidance, I have learned more in 2 months than I did for nearly a year previously. His thoughtful and professional approach is teaching me not only how to play, but to understand how to read and understand music. He is helping me build a strong foundation based on steady and fun learning at my pace. I am now seeing week to week progress, and I am excited about continuing my lessons with Jordan and the enjoyment that playing the guitar will bring to me for years to come."

"I picked up my first guitar around 1960, and took my first real lesson - from Jeff - about 55 years later. I had played off and on before, mainly off, but when I retired from doctoring my wife bought me a package with TakeLessons, and Jeff was the closest to home and had good reviews. I highly recommend him. We focus on the rock, R&B and such that I grew up on. Jeff's knowledge of music is encyclopedic, and he is able to teach it to an old man like me. He plays just about everything, from Jazz to Ukulele. I give him 5 stars. I have learned a lot, limited only by my own lack of practice time, and over the years I have also gained a good friend. Give Jeff a try!"

"I'd say Kevin is by far the best teacher I've ever had for acoustic guitar. I'm left handed, which require a special technique of instruction. I'm also well up in my years and have always wanted to learn guitar for my own enjoyment. He's patient with me, which is great, and is very fair with the time he provides for the cost. He goes the extra mile to assure I gain confidence and fulfillment with my playing. I have plenty more to learn and I only want Kevin because he teaches in a sincere and meaningful way. I'm going to start singing with my playing and am very excited about that. Kevin is awesome!!! He's genuine. I highly recommend him to anyone, at any age."

"Omar is a great music teacher! We love that he is able to come to our home for lessons, plus he is flexible when we have to reschedule due to doctors appointments. He is very knowledgeable & talented in different instruments. He is currently giving our daughter piano lessons and our son guitar lessons once a week. They enjoy his patient, fun, and low key style vs feeling pressured or nervous. Our children are learning so much from him and feel confident in their new skills -enough to perform in front of others. His prices are very reasonable, and we feel very blessed to have him as our children's music instructor. We highly recommend him!"
