Mr. Anderson has been a great influence on my life. As a cello teacher, Mr. Anderson has a wealth of knowledge ranging from the making of the cello to the history of composers to just random facts. Mr. Anderson has been my teacher from the 6th grade to my senior year. During those 6 years, he helped me grow into a great cello player that as a senior, I was able to play a solo with my school orchestra as a senior capstone. He, also, understood, that during this time, not only is his job to teach me cello but also to help and guide me into a better person. I have had many great and amazing teachers in high school and college and Mr. Anderson is among the best. I will never forget those 6 years and will fondly look back at these formative years.

Dwight Anderson was a fabulous cello teacher for my son from preschool through high school. He was, in fact, the best music teacher we ever had for either of my children - through all of their piano, violin and cello instruction. He was consistent and nurturing, able to push the boundaries of expectation, and able to inspire. Although he only taught my son, he influenced my daughter as well by encouraging them to both participate in the GDYO. He was masterful in choosing certain pieces of work that inspired my son to practice and to perform. Even though he certainly assigned scales and etudes, he always allowed him at least one piece of his choosing that gave him such a sense of accomplishment. For example, my son learned to play the prelude of the Bach suite in G even before he started the 1st grade. That is still his favorite piece! And, starting around 7th or 8th grade, he let his pick which "big work" they would tackle for the following year. We went through the Lalo cello concerto, Faure's Elegie, the Saint-Saens concerto, Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, Dvorak's Rondo, and finally, "The Dvorak", for his senior project in high school. Even though my son didn't always learn all the movements of the concerto or learn it to perfection, Dwight's partnership with my son in picking these pieces gave him such a love of playing the cello! What a wonder and a gift!
In the years since high school, Dwight has kept up with my son, even though he chose a non-music career path and a life in the north east. We will be forever grateful for Dwight and the influence he has had on my son in particular, and, for his influence on the whole family for deepening our appreciation of beautiful music. Thank you, Dwight!

Mr. Anderson was very patient with my son who was just starting on the cello. He made sure that my son had a strong foundation before learning harder pieces, and always came to the lessons with a bright smile.

I have over 6 years of experience teaching private lessons in addition to teaching seminars on songwriting and music business at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts and SUNY JCC.

I teach both online and in-person lessons at my studio in Nashville and offer 30 and 60 minute lessons.

I have played over 1,000 shows, both solo and as an auxiliary musician for other touring acts. I performed on over 30 albums and have composed for radio, television, and internet video series, including sharing the stage with members of the 10,000 Maniacs. I've been featured in The New York Times, on the CBS Evening News, and on NPR.

While each student is different, I do generally start everyone on either Suzuki or the Essential Elements books.

As one of my old teachers said, “I'm not teaching you how to play cello, I'm teaching you how to teach yourself how to play cello.” This is something I strive for. Students will not only learn technical skills( how to play their instrument, read ...

I am a professional cellist with years of performing and teaching.
I attended the Jacobs School of Music for my undergraduate and masters' degrees and was a graduate teaching assistant. I also received my Stott Pilates Teaching Certification while at IU and incorporate postural alignment into my teaching. I have Suzuki certification and work on a strong technical foundation, which both facilitates performing and frees us up to explore non-traditional techniques and other genres.

Most importantly, I strive to nurture the love and passion for music and cello and I am here to help you achieve your musical goals.

About Maria

I teach cellists of all ages and abilities and tailor the lesson to the individual. Lessons include standard repertoire, and if requested, non-traditional styles as well. I have experience with solo repertoire, orchestra, chamber music, and folk music, and can help you develop your ear and even sin

"Qiele has been my teacher for several years now and it has been the best. I am in my early 30’s, started as a beginner level and now at intermediate level.

Qiele is an excellent teacher. Our lessons are not only fun but also comprehensive. He teaches all the cello technique in a way to avoid injuries. He also teaches music theory and fundamental composition so I can approach and learn music.

I can’t thank enough for Qiele and I am lucky to have him as my teacher. Thank you!"

Aaron has the gift of being an outstanding musician, but also the gift of being able to impart that knowledge to others in a meaningful way, such that even young children and teens learn easily from his instruction. We have recommended Aaron to others and he is equally as good with adults. His manner is professional, he takes pride in the accomplishments of his students and is dedicated to the success of his students."

He is kind, patient and provides a wonderful learning environment. Although my lessons are done online it seems no different then if he were standing in my living room! I would encourage anyone to take cello lessons from Victor as he teaches a unique way with every student. By the end of your first lesson you will love what you learn and practice to get better. "I am a now heading off to be a freshman in college after studying with Arlette for over ten years. I began as a shy six year old and can say I am so glad my mother encouraged me to study cello with Arlette. Arlette is both patient and stern in her teaching style. Every criticism was constructive and every praise warm and ernest. She helped me not only in my studies as a solo cellist, but as an orchestral cellist as well. I am so grateful and happy I to have studied with Arlette and encourage all those young (or older) cellists, whether they are beginning or more advanced, to study with Arlette."

"A fantastic cellist with a thirst for continually pushing her own musical knowledge and limits.

Johanna has been a great contributor to many orchestras I have conducted. She continuously seeks to further her knowledge to help make the music come to live and freely shares this knowledge with others around her. She continuously strives to find a perfect balance between technical acuity and musical phrasing/interpretation in her playing. I cannot overemphasize the benefit of her skill in this area, as it results in very technically competent musicians, who are also expressive!

She is friendly, encourages other struggling musicians. She always shows up to rehearsals/concerts early, with a smiling, can do demeanor, and a willingness to help wherever there might be a need.

She is professional and personable, she is always my first recommendation to parents and students looking for 'the right' music teacher."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
