I'm knowledgeable and patient. I believe it is important to build on the student's confidence as well as their skills, because panic hurts performance almost as bad as being unprepared.

I've been active in this discipline for over 30 years in a wide variety of industries. I was also in the Air Force.
I have good rapport with young children, and tutor from Kindergarten to adult. It would be helpful to know what textbook your child is using so I could work from the same text (which I would either purchase or rent online).

I like basic math. Without basic math, we cannot do the more advanced math like Algebra. Basic math is an absolute necessity to function in society. I really hope to help students learn the concepts that they need to be successful.
While tutoring at ASU, I have modified my tutoring style to provide better service. What happens is that during the first few sessions, I get to know each person and some things about the course that they are taking such as the syllabus content, the type of grade the person wants in the course, the number of points each assignment is worth, and the date of the next major test. I then try to hold tutoring sessions in accordance w
Usually, I tutor by appointment and each session usually lasts for about 1 hour. In order to reschedule or cancel an appointment, I request a 24-hour notice. I am willing to meet in a public place or online.
I also make videos that cover math concepts in order to make it a little easier for students to get the information that they need to be successful. If you would like for me to make a video, please let me know!
Please contact me and we can get started.
Using research based instruction, my lessons are about student understanding through conceptual learning and not procedural. The students will learn the why math works. Through the use of hands on activities, I make the math relatable to the student.
I have a masters degree in mathematics education from the University of Texas at Arlington. I’ve taught in elementary schools, tutored middle and high school, and I am an instructional coach for math teachers.
For instance: did you know, no matter what a person's height divided by the distance from the belly button to the floor is going to be around 1.618 (depending on accuracy of measurements)?
Do you want to know why the "Butterfly Method" works when comparing fractions?
Do you want to know what you are doing with simplifying polynomial expressions?
I can help you to understand how fun and important math is and how it is all around you.
