I'm a professional, classically trained bassoonist that plays with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and rock bands. I've been teaching private lessons for over 15 years and I'm available to work with students at any age and skill level including beginners, intermediate students who want to improve their skills (or are picking up the bassoon after time away), as well as advanced students looking for audition and performance coaching. Lessons with me are always positive, supportive, and tailored to each individual's goals and needs.

My method of teaching is motivating and rewarding, and my students always succeed on their scale tests, Region and All State auditions, and college auditions. We can work on major and minor scales, beginner to advanced etudes, solo literature, audition etudes, orchestral excerpts, contemporary music and extended techniques, music theory, and more.

About Kristilyn
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a passion for all types of music. I received my Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in bassoon performance from the Ohio State University, and my Masters of Music in bassoon performance from Arizona State University.

In addition to holding faculty positions at Grand Canyon University and Paradise Valley Community College, I teach a large studio of both online and in-person bassoon students. I also perform with symphonies and classical chamber music groups all over the country. Outside of the classical world, I am a founding member of the band Dry River Yacht Club, which has gone on tours, played music festivals, and recorded 3 studio albums.

I love working with students on an individual level, finding out what motivates and inspires them, and helping each one accomplish his or her personal goa
ls. Lessons with me focus on technical precision while also developing listening skills, focus, sensitivity, and appreciation for refinement and beauty.

I am an active performer and teacher of bassoon, and am still an active learner on my instrument. Lessons with me are fun, engaging, and informative on this unique and often difficult instrument. I strive for my students to love the bassoon and enjoy working on their craft, whether a beginning band student or an aspiring professional. I earned my Bachelors of Music in Bassoon Performance from Sacramento State University and am currently earning my Masters of Music in Bassoon Performance at University of North Carolina, Greensboro. I also can help with reed making and adjusting, I make all of my own reeds and have for years.

About Jack
Jack Fanning has been teaching the bassoon since 2015. He is currently available to teach lessons online, or at the student’s home (and is ready and willing to travel within the NC Triad area). Jack aims to make each lesson fun, enjoyable, educational, and informative. He has helped middle school and high school students win positions in youth orchestras and honor bands in California and North Carolina.

Jack studied bassoon performance with Dr. David Wells at California State University, Sacramento and studied bassoon performance with Dr. Michael Burns at University of North Carolina, Greensboro. The tutelage of these great bassoonists fostered a love of music education and sharing the magic of bassoon playing with younger students.

Jack holds a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Music Theory from University of North Carolina, Gree
nsboro. His training specifically focused on pedagogy of music theory and the study of current trends in music theory.

Jack is an accomplished bassoon reed maker and makes his reeds available to purchase for his students. The importance of a good reed to a young bassoonist is paramount; it is key to making great music and being successful from day to day.

Our daughter was amazed and in "Ah" with all she learned in just her first lesson with Jack. It was fantastic to see her excitement again for private lessons. So excited she wanted to continue playing and practicing even after the session. Thank you, Jack! She wanted me to let you know she is looking forward to many more days like this!😁👍

Jack is a friendly, encouraging instructor---a great match for my 11-year-old daughter. He's obviously an expert bassoonist, but does a fantastic job of explaining things clearly and simply for the less-advanced student. My daughter can't wait for her next bassoon lesson with Jack!

I have been teaching beginning and intermediate bands for the past 8 years. I love teaching beginners to help them figure out how to accomplish learning an instrument. It is a challenging thing to do, but I make learning a new instrument fun and as easy as I can. I have been playing the Bassoon since I was in 8th grade and minored in it in college. I have taught privately for 10 years now on all band instruments as well as Piano! I enjoy playing the bassoon in my free time as well as all woodwinds in Pit Orchestras around the Rochester, NY area, and I play the clarinet for the Eastman Community Music School's Music Educator Wind Ensemble. I would love the opportunity to share my love of music and instruments with you.

About Rebecca
I have been teaching in Public Schools for 8 years and teaching privately for 10. I love teaching beginners through the intermediate level. Students just starting off learning an instrument need an experience that is going to be encouraging and fun. I have taught ages 5 through adult on all band instruments and piano. Work with me and I will help you to learn an instrument, read music, and have fun while doing it! Learning to play an instrument is a life long skill that will last forever!

I’ve been playing bassoon for 12 years now. I’ve taught for 3 years. I mostly teach beginner and intermediate. Not very many people actually play bassoon play in SETX, so having someone available 24/7, in person or online, is such a great opportunity. As a student at Lamar University, I don’t have the privilege to have a bassoon teacher anymore like I did back home. It can be very confusing to have to teach yourself new things or having to research your own material. That’s what I’m here for! I’m very patient and will help you until you know all my secrets to becoming a better bassoon player. I hope to hear from you soon!

About Aiden
I am first bassoon in the top band at Lamar University. I also play in the symphonic band. I’ve been playing for roughly 13 years so I’ve got a lot of tricks up my sleeve.
I’m pretty blunt when it comes to criticizing your playing but I’m not harsh about it. I want you to be the best you can be but you’ve got to want it too. I give my all in lessons and I will always go a long way for my students in order to help them.
I’m pretty relaxed and patient when it comes to teaching. As long as there is respect between us both, we’ll have a fun learning experience. You can always expect to improve each week.
First couple of lessons will be me learning what you know and what you don’t know and what you need to work on. Sort of like an ice breaker so we can get to the good stuff faster.
I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your
journey to becoming a better musician.
