Despite what TakeLessons says about my location, I can come to you even if you don't live on the East side.

About John
I have an associates degree in music and I have been teaching lessons for 10 years now. I also have experience as a substitute teacher. As a substitute, I have taught all grades, all subjects, and I have helped out many kinds of students each with their own way of learning.

Besides teaching, I love learning too. Anytime I have a question I immediately start seeking out the answer. Learning never stops!

*** Lesson Details ***
Ever wondered how musicians write music? Why do they make the choices they make? Why do those choices work? Why does music work the way that it does? I can answer all these questions and much more.

With me as your guide, I will unlock your musical superpowers and make you capable of things you didn't know were possible. I have many different methods for teaching not only technique, but how to listen, and ho
w to think creatively so that you can unlock your full potential.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide my guitar, picks, and tuner and that's really all you will need as well.

I'll occasionally bring my laptop with me to use some music software to assist in my lessons.

I'll always have pens and paper so I can make notes or diagrams if needed. I highly recommend that my students have a spiral notebook so I can more easily cater to them.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in many musical genres including rock, ska, punk, progressive, jazz, folk, and more. Music theory is a big part of what I do as it's the universal language of music. If you learn enough theory, you can learn ANY instrument.

John seems to customize his lesson to you. He teaches the basic, and theory behind why these chords go together and helps you learn the music you are interested in. He goes at a slow pace, so that you have time to practice and really pick up what he is showing you

I currently play trumpet in our Austin community, and I receive training from Marcus Graf, a professional trumpeter. As I build my skills, I would like to transfer my knowledge to you. Playing trumpet with other trumpeters is such a fun experience!

About Michael
Greetings Music Enthusiasts!

I have been playing music since elementary school. I taught myself how to play the piano and guitar, but my primary instrument is the trumpet. I worked towards a minor in music at UC, Berkeley where I spent most of my time learning music composition.

I pride myself in stepping into the learner's shoes and being a guide for my students. I am not an expert in all things music, but I can promise to help you grow your skills and be a great resource along the way. It's not about what I know, it's about what you discover on your personal music journey.

Experienced music teacher of 7 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! While clarinet is my primary instrument I have a special attachment to the trumpet. My original clarinet teacher was in fact a trumpet player and is currently a section leader for one of the United States Air Force Bands. I have also given private lessons to 4 trumpet players - some of whom have gone on to do very well at the high school level.

About Michael
Michael A Tate graduated from the prestigious Music Education Program and Psychology Program at Ithaca College in 2012. Ithaca gave him the incredible opportunity to hone in on his musicianship and compositional skills. He was also able to discover a new medium of composition, film composition. Tate immediately fell in love with the art of writing music for film and was able to make his first musical debut on a film directed by Mike Blaney. In his time at Ithaca College, he composed scores for multiple films and continues to maintain an active composition career. Tate is currently finishing as a music teacher Brooklyn Scholars Charter School (BSCS) and Music Content Leader for National Heritage Academies (NHA) New York Branch. In the fall Tate will be returning to school to study the psychological benefits of music education for children
and adolescents, while teaching private lessons.

Good day!
I have taught occasional trumpet lessons ever since I was in High School six years ago. Beginner trumpet students start with basics such as lip buzzing, mouthpiece buzzing, and easy songs. Eventually, they will learn about playing with a desirable tone as well as instruction on playing solos and etudes. I play both classical and jazz music on trumpet.
If I sound like a fit, then don't hesitate to press the green button!

About Edward
You may think it’s strange to talk about a story that is unrelated to music, but read on to find out why this story is important to Alex’s life as a music teacher. Alex has always been a curious guy. Having worn glasses for his entire life, Alex was interested to see what contacts were like. Usually, he would have just accepted what he was told. However, this time, he was determined to wear contacts. So, Alex attended a different eye doctor rather than his original doctor. Even then, he was told that he would not be able to wear contacts. But he was still determined to try them out. Surprisingly, the contacts worked! Little did Alex know that this would be the start of a different chapter in his life.

It was perhaps not surprising, then, that a new emphasis on education had begun to develop. Shortly afterwards, Alex accepted a new job
as a piano teacher at the Piano Studio. Using the lessons he had learned from his visit to the doctor, he started to form his philosophy on teaching. No matter what the challenges of the student, Alex will always strive to work through those challenges and do his best to successfully teach that student.

There have been a few piano beginners that have come by the Piano Studio that were assigned to Alex’s teaching roster. When they started, they were clearly some of the hardest beginners he has had to work with. One parent even remarked that her child would be impossible to teach. That parent was fortunately wrong! For months, now, this student follows Alex's instructions very clearly and has been paying attention every lesson. This is an example of how Alex's tenacity has paid off.

With a full studio of nearly twenty students per week while attending San Jacinto College, Alex stuck by with this principle of never giving up. Even when it seemed discouraging, he never gave up on any of his students as long as his students never give up on themselves. This, he believes, is what separates teachers who are passionate at their work, and teachers who just try to get by.

Currently, Alex teaches at a piano studio in Webster, TX, while attending the University of St. Thomas. Additionally, he performs weekly at a local Church as the staff organist and pianist.

Edward's a very patient teacher and accomplished pianist. I've played the piano a bit on my own, but he gave me a detailed orientation into the theoretical side and technical side of piano. He gives me a large plate of work every week, and expects me to do this work. My progress isn't immediate, but it's going smoothly and it IS progress. I would suggest Edward for both begginers berly learning and for experienced players trying to learn more. Don't be shy with him. He can be a bit qwerky, but there is a method to his madness.

I have studied under Alex for some time now and I think he is the best instructor in the Houston area. I would highly recommend him because of his teaching style and is also one of the best players around. 10/10 Edward displays an extremely professional attitude about everything he does and has shown himself to be dedicated to becoming an outstanding musician and teacher. He is also a very accomplished Piano, Trumpet & improviser, a very sensitive player and a very musical individual.

I haven’t taken lessons from Edward, but we have played together since high school band. I’ve seen him play in concerts as a soloist and he is very musical on both piano and trumpet. We also played a trumpet solo with piano accompaniment that he wrote and it was a list of fun. He’s a great guy to work with and is very understanding of any problems you’re having as a musician. I’d definitely recommend Edward as a lesson teacher for both trumpet and piano.

I believe every student is different, and by that I mean every student’s brain has a different way of processing a new skill. When students learn differently, that means a teacher needs to have different approaches for teaching a wide range of musical and technical skills. Ultimately, we want to be able to have a multitude of routes to the same destination. The same applies to physical setup. With every student, comes a new pair of lips, teeth, tongue etc. This should not however change the desired outcome. As long as the proper setup can be achieved (which it almost always can) then every student has the potential to be great. With every student (even beginners) teaching musicality should always be the priority. In the beginning when the fundamentals aren’t fully developed, this can be difficult. I require students of all ages to listen to music, whether it is influential music on their instrument, or music that demonstrates superior musicality, regardless of what instrument it is ...

About Jacob
My name is Jake Ciulla! I am from the Cleveland, Ohio area. I have a Bachelors degree from The University of Akron in Trumpet Performance and I just received my Masters degree from Louisiana State University, also in Trumpet Performance. I have been teaching private trumpet lessons for about 6 years. In this time, I have worked with an approximate total of about 60 students ranging in age and skill level, from beginners at the age of 10 years old to advanced college students.
Every student is different and learns differently. As an experienced teacher, I believe we need to have a multitude of routes to the same destination. I also believe in the potential for greatness in every student. It takes hard work, but I am happy to guide your child to reaching their full potential. The majority of my teaching is centered on creating a beautifu
l sound and making music.

As an experienced jazz trumpet player of 8 years, my work has lead me to play with some of the greatest of the music such as: Wynton Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Sean Jones, Wycliffe Gordon, and many more. Along with jazz studies, I am well versed in music styles such as classical, pop, R&B, and soul, and have proficiency in technique, music theory, ear training, and composition. In these lessons, not only will we learn about improvisation, jazz history, and style, we will also learn about forming your own sound, getting gigs, and working the music industry. In weeks, you can play jazz standards and songs from your favorite recordings!
Struggling to learn chord changes? Can’t figure out the blues? Learning how to swing? Shoot me a message and we can go from there!

About Cyrus
I am a professional trumpet player of many styles and my experience in music has taken me across the world. I currently play in multiple small jazz groups, and big bands, and run two of my own groups that play styles such as Jazz, Pop, Funk, R&B, and Soul. Due to my musical knowledge, courage, and versatility, I have been invited to play overseas and at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, and the many venues occupied by Jazz at Lincoln Center.

I teach students of all ages and skill levels.
I wish for you to learn musical versatility and the ability to catch on to music quickly, the things that many don’t teach. Through my years of playing I have gained knowledge and advice from the biggest names in the music industry about many topics covering the actual playing of the instrument to playing in a band and obtaining gigs.

No
t only will we learn about music, but also powerful life lessons and great qualities we should develop not just as musicians, but human beings. I look forward to helping you reach your goals and become a better person/musician!
