Hello and welcome to my teaching world! I love teaching any one, and any age, piano, as it has always been my strongest instrument. I can start as young as four or five (if that child knows her/his ABCs and numbers 1-10, use a pencil and crayons); or any teen or adult wanting to refresh their early piano training.

Learning piano is excellent for those young minds entering the school system. Most kids studying any musical instrument become honor (AP) students. Learning music is especially helpful in learning math as music and math are based on patterns. Engineers and musicians have the same thing in common: they learn to recognize patterns easily.

For very young beginners, I use Alfred's Young Beginner course. For students 6-7-8 years of age, I lean toward John Thompson Easiest Piano Course (or JT's Modern or Adult courses) as they include a variety of genres learned early, with emphasis on classical technique after students become familiar with five-finger hand positions

About Susan B.
I would first like to say that I was born into a musical family. My Dad (choir director) and five older brothers were not only the majority of the choir in our large Catholic church, but Dad had a "tame" Frank Sinatra singing style. My mother played harmonica and piano by ear so acquiring musical intellects spread quickly to all of us. Most of my siblings sang and played instruments as we had a piano, guitar, organ, harmonica, trumpet, clarinet and a recorder to use as we pleased, with or without a music teacher.

I started singing and playing the piano at age four. With consistent encouragement from my oldest sister (a professional organist for 40+ years), I learned piano and music theory while I was learning to read; started guitar at eight. A natural born singer, I learned the basics of voice while in choir from middle school thr
ough high school while accompanying myself on piano or guitar when singing privately or for others. I wrote my first song at 17 and worked my way through college playing original music in coffee shops while earning my bachelors degree. After college, I started touring across the US (this was long before American Idol and the Internet when if you wanted to make it, you had to "pay your dues" on the road first). Working in the studio was always the most fun and challenging, my first original song got air play in 1990 (this was before CDs).

I received international distribution of my original music starting 2004 - that summer I worked and sold CDs in Munich Germany; however, upon returning to the US realized that performing was not my preferred way of providing service to others - teaching then become my passion. So while working for a local public school district as substitute teacher for general music classes (orchestra, band, choir as well), I was asked to write and teach a beginning songwriting class. From the very first day I had kids' attention in the palm of my hands (some of those students eventually recorded their own songs in studios).

After 30+ years of professional musicianship spanning across two continents (US and Germany) with originally produced music available on iTunes and two CDs on the market, I have found a unique way of teaching music to others. I especially enjoy teaching families (children, parents, grandparents, cousins, etc.) that want to learn to play a variety of instruments and music together. Married couples are wonderful to teach as well, I can usually get any combination of two or more people playing music together.

I usually host annual recitals. I do not force anyone to play in the recital, however most everyone enjoys the experience.

*** Specialties ***
Piano: Beginning/intermediate classical piano; then onto pop, blues, jazz, hymns, praise music (piano/voice).

Guitar: Beginning Classical Guitar (nylon strings; notes, chords, fingerpicking); Beginning Acoustic Guitar (steel strings; notes, chords, fingerpicking, strumming, using a plectrum or flat pick).

Ukulele: Beginning note and strumming patterns while accompanying voice.

Voice: I can take you to professional levels! As proof, one of my adult male students, singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist/trumpeter, came to me to enhance his "character" voice. After 30 lessons, and assistance arranging vocals (including mic technique) in home studio four-song demo, my student signed a four-song demo recording deal with an eight (8) time Grammy award winning music producer Joe Chiccarelli - in LA with studio right on Sunset Blvd.

Lastly, I would love to enroll students who want to learn Joni Mitchell's style of piano and guitar playing. Mitchell never had formal music training, she played by ear; particularly on guitar she used more than 50 open tunings.

First of all, I'll need to know you or your children's goals, dreams and natural talent(s). What types of music do you love best? Are you more the serious type or fun-loving (I can work with both types of personalities but do require a respectful demeanor).

Lessons are once per week. It is extremely important to develop the brain, nervous system, physical coordination all together with momentum and repetitive physical movements; particularly, the first six months of learning.

I do schedule students on "Schedule-As-You-Go" however usually only after consistent weekly lessons.

If you already know an instrument and want to take Combination Lessons - Voice/Piano or Voice/Guitar - I am an excellent teacher for that purpose.

Please do not expect overnight success, hand/motor skills need to be developed and that doesn't occur with one or two lessons, unless you've had prior experience on your instrument and just need to refresh your brain's neural pathways.

If you are the creative type and wish to compose your own music, then by all means let me know as I teach not only composition, but arranging, music production, and the legal aspects of copyrights and international distribution.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano lessons will be given on my parlor grand piano. For guitar lessons, I use either my Yamaha acoustic-electric classical nylon string guitar OR my vintage Epiphone steel string guitar. Please see the photo noting the studio's microphones/vocal monitors, plus I have a variety of hand percussion.

Susan is a excellent teacher, she has shown great patience and allows you to learn at your own pace. For an adult student with very little childhood training and having taken lessons once before as an adult she has done a masterful job learning what I want to learn and has been very open minded on which direction to go in as far as my lessons go. I am amazed that she has pulled some thoughts and ideas out of me that I didn't realize I had and has taught me patience in learning the piano.
If you are an adult student wanting to learn the piano or advance in piano Susan is the perfect teacher, she is flexible and takes the time to learn what your individual goals are in the piano. She has changed courses with my learning based on my interests, and for that I am thankful. If you are looking for a very talented music teacher (especially if you have done lessons before and have been thinking of giving it one last try) I would highly recommend Susan as the person to work with. 5 stars all the way!!

Beginner to intermediate.
Piano is maybe the ideal instrument for a beginning musician. One can develop skills and acquire knowledge of music that can used for the rest of his or her life, and can be transferred to any number of other instruments.
I mostly teach beginner piano (most of my students are 6-10 years old), but I can also help those casual players out there who'd like to tighten up their playing, or maybe improve their sight reading.

About Ray
Born in Arlington, Texas, I began playing guitar and bass guitar in high school. After studying for several years under Joey Faust, I studied Jazz, Classical Guitar, and Music Theory at TCC in Fort Worth. I began teaching in my free time to friends and family in 2003; by 2008 I was teaching full time, my students ranging in age from 3 to over 70. I also play piano, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and auto harp.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe lessons should be fun, so all lessons are tailored to the individual student, based on the student's interests and goals. Students are free to progress at their own pace, and to choose their own learning material. Styles and techniques include Rock, Country, Blues, Bluegrass, Jazz, Shred, Slide Guitar, Classical Guitar, and Slap Bass, to name a few.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in my home stud
io are definitely more beneficial to the student, because I have all my toys here! Besides having all of my other instruments here for demonstrations, or being able to freely change between electric or acoustic guitar for example.
I also find that students who are at home (especially the children) tend to be more distracted, whether it's from lack of privacy due to the area chosen for the lessons, or often (again, this goes especially for the kids) there are pets that they like to play with while I'm trying to talk to them.
When they're guests in my home, however, I find I have their strict attention.

*** Specialties ***
I am primarily a guitar player specializing in electric lead guitar and solo acoustic guitar/vocal performance. I also teach beginner to advanced bass guitar, primarily finger-style.

About Lisa
I have been a music teacher and private lesson instructor for the past 20 years. I have a bachelor of science degree in Music Education and hold a teaching certificate for all-level Music Education. In my private studio I have taught students from 3-70 and have enjoyed them all! In addition to teaching music I also serve as the Music Minister for my church. Students coming to me can expect a tremendous amount of experience as well as a committed, honest and caring teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning piano students at the pre-reading level (ages 3-6ish) I like to use the Faber "My First Piano Adventure" series. I love that this series enforces solid technique in a fun, child-friendly way.

For older beginners and players with some piano I like the Alfred series, supplemented, of course, with songs/styles of music that i
nterest the student.

Guitar: I've found that guitar method books are nearly as diverse as the guitarists that play them! That being said, I typically start with the Essential Elements for guitar for a solid introduction to music reading and a touch of theory.

Depending on the style of play the guitarist is interested in I move on from there. Mel Bays Classical method is always a solid choice as is the Christopher Parkening Guitar method. I also have a few tab oriented books and some rock/blues oriented books.

For clarinet and oboe students I like to compliment what their band/orchestra director is using when possible. I also love the Klose method for clarinet. The Rubank is also a tried and true book I use. I've had a lot of success with these books.

Of course the best method books are for naught without adequate practice time! When theory and technique work get too dry it's always fun to throw in some fun selections to compliment the "work."

Voice students are a bit different in that I don't use a specific method to instruct. I have many books that I draw from when teaching voice due to the unique nature of the individual. Depending on the style of music, from classical to jazz/pop, I have music that will teach proper breath support, vowel placement and tone.

I have over 20 years of experience playing as a professional musician. I teach students piano performance techniques for classical and jazz. Students are taught how to read music, chord and scale theory, improvisation, and how to play by ear.

About Carl
As far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed performing music. I can remember during my elementary school years how I would play drums during church service. Some days I would sneak in my dad's closet to play his saxophone. I began learning how to play saxophone in middle school and by the time I was in high school I was learning piano, performing jazz, and composing music.
I went on to get a Bachelor of Music at the University of North Texas. I have been performing professionally for over 18 years. I also have taught band for 11 years in Dallas ISD. I enjoy teaching and mentoring other up and coming musicians. It's a joy to see another world open up to them through music.
Through my warm and positive personality and experience as a certified music teacher and music performer, I understand how to meet the social and education
al needs of each music student. I am well versed at solving problems and helping students thrive and reach their full potential. I think that I do this best by personalizing the instruction experience for each unique situation. I love to encourage students and help them discover the music in them.

I teach piano holistically, encouraging a well-rounded knowledge of the piano and various genres of music. Along with technique, I encourage the student's exploration of the piano by improvisation. As a sight-reading lover, I also teach sight-reading so students can easily discover pieces on their own. I want students to develop the proper foundations to discover music at their own leisure.

About Elisa
Elisa grew up in Austin Texas and started playing piano at the age of 5. She comes from a family of pianists and piano teachers, and played piano throughout high school.

In 2013 she attended University of Rochester, and took piano lessons at the highly acclaimed Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Sight reading and discovering new music was her passion, and she developed a taste for classical music outside of lessons. She was accepted to Southern Methodist University's Division of Music for Piano. She is the church pianist at Westview United Methodist Church. Elisa is also the keyboardist for SMU’s World Music Ensemble.

Elisa loves helping her students cultivate their passion for music, whatever style it may be. She loves the journey of music discovery, and is excited to share her knowledge of piano with her students!

I believe in teaching fundamental skills (posture, hand position, music theory, rhythm, scales) as well as doing some music that the students’ want to play and will enjoy. Playing music should be fun, and I am very patient when it comes to seeing each student grow and advance in their craft!

Learning to read music is the foundation to help students explore playing other styles of music they enjoy. I was classically trained from a young age and had no idea that it would help become the musician I am. I not only play classically but can pick up several styles of music by ear because of theory and ear training.

Maybe you are someone who can play by ear, but would like to learn how to read music and understand the theory behind what you play? Music theory is very important, and I love seeing the lights bulbs come on when students see how the songs they know play are really put together!

Music gave me a way to express myself in a way that no other activity could. And I hope to help my ...

About Brittany
I began taking piano when I was 7 years old. My older sister was taking lessons and I wanted to be like her. One day, my mom heard some music in the background, and my older sister went grab my mom to show her it was me playing with no sheet music in front of me. I was just copying what I had heard my sister play. That is where my musical journey began. None of my immediate family plays any instruments or sings professionally. My mom decided to put me in lessons, and I have been playing ever since.

I had such a wonderful teacher and she believed I could play anything she placed in front of me. Later at the age of 12, I started playing at church and playing for people who sang solos in church. It was my piano teacher and high school choir teacher who believed I could do music in college. I auditioned and was awarded scholarship money.
I never imagined over 10 years later that I would still be teaching music.

I am such a fun, patient person when I am with my student whether in the classroom or teaching privately. Music absolutely changed my life and gave me a positive way to express myself!! I’m so glad my parents thought enough to get me started with lessons!

I have been teaching in the public schools since 2012 and privately since 2013. I took a break from teaching privately to focus on teaching high school. As I begin teaching privately again, I look forward to helping students discover their full potential. Let’s get to work!

I have forty years of teaching experience and have taught students with learning disabilities to senior citizens teaching all genres, levels and ages in your home or mine. Each lesson is curtailed to student ability, genre of music desired to learn, ear training, music theory and song writing.

Students learn to play songs quickly and with confidence; as music should speak to you. Through my years of teaching experience I've had great success in all areas as teaching is my passion.

About Sue
I started playing piano at the age of seven, classically trained then branched off to spiritual, pop, jazz, contemporary, funk. folk and every genre except country. Took music history, music appreciation, song writing, music theory, ear training and have performed at church, synagogue, parties, and weddings.

Students learn to read music and some by ear or combination of both to be well rounded pianist. Watching students pursue and fulfill their goals are my primary objectives.

My passion is to create and write my own music, however; my gift is my love of teaching and to guide each individual student to obtain their goals.

I care. I want students to enjoy learning, and am happy to be a part of their musical journey. I do treat students as individuals, and tailor lessons that are unique to each student based on their level, and talents. I also consider their personal goals and wishes, favorite music genres, and in many cases; parents' wishes. I try to help a student become a musician as well as a player by instructing them on theory, and technique. I also have an extensive performance background as a professional musician in classical, rock, and pop music which gives me a variety of stylistic choices to assist the student during lessons. I am a hard teacher; yet a fun teacher!

About Jamie Leigh
I am a professional vocalist and pianist. I perform and do studio work all over the country. I have studied music at North Texas State University (UNT), and at New England Conservatory in Boston. I am classically trained; however; my career has been made singing and playing comtemporary popular music. I also have professional theatre experience as well.

I have had the pleasure of teaching many students who have gone on to professional music careers. I am a very caring teacher, and will do my best to help a student become the best singer or player they can become. I am able to teach all styles of music. I am a very fun teacher; yet challenging teacher. I am encouraging, and I have years of training to share.

I have been performing in my band SHAZAM! as an encore favorite across the country. In 2012 I was a featured vocalist on Dymaxi
on Vehicle's CD....that recording won the coveted Artist In Music Award in Los Angeles. I have had a CORI Check as required by law to work with children. I am also a mother myself as well.

I tailor lessons based on the level, talent, skills, and areas needing work in the student's musical development process.I treat students as individuals...similar to a tutor or coaching relationship. Many students are naturally talented, and simply need more direction, and perhaps, technique, and basic music theory knowledge. In vocal study, proper breathing, vocal exercisers to improve singing and flexibility, and strength are part of lessons. In addition; I assist in choosing material, prepping for performances or auditions, and preserving and enhancing the natural voice of the student.

As a piano teacher; I can work with students at all levels as well. I am very good with beginners. I also have more to offer more advanced students in a concentration on technique, and add a music theory component to lessons as it helps them to become a better musician and instrumentalist. Thank you for your time!
