I love to teach piano to anyone age 5 and up. We will work together to learn the basics of piano through games, drawing activities, and of course playing the piano. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and have been playing the piano since I was 7 years old and that is a LONG time ago!

About Cheryl (Cher)
I love teaching music to anyone who has an interest! Just about everyone likes some kind of music and I want to be able to help you make your own! Whether you like classical music or that really great song on the radio we will get you to where you can play it.

MY PHILOSOPHY

Music touches our lives every day. Music is there for us to help express our emotions feelings, fears and hopes. With what you learn in your lessons you will be able to make your own music, whether it be from the printed page or something that you have composed yourself. I will provide a teaching environment that will be encouraging and caring. We will work together to create great music from your very own fingers and who knows, maybe one day you will share your talent with the world!!!

MY EDUCATION

My story started on the day my mom said “HAPPY BIR
THDAY CHER!! Today, for your 7th year birthday, you are going to start taking piano lessons!!” Well, I didn’t know what to think about that but I started piano lessons and I have been hooked ever since!

I studied piano for 6 years with a local teacher and then moved on to a teacher who could help me with more complex music. I was only able to study with her for a short time because we moved to a new town. There I found the greatest piano teacher ever. He helped me grow in my playing and performing.

After graduating from high school, I was accepted at Illinois Wesleyan University where I studied piano with Dr. Carol Thibodeaux. I also sang in the collegiate choir and had a great time in theory classes and music history.

MY EXPERIENCE

I have had many other great experiences as a musician and teacher that include:

1. I have played and sung at many weddings, parties, and social events.

2. I continue to accompany band and orchestra students even though I am no longer teaching in schools.

3. I directed the Bell Singers choir from AT&T for about 10 years.

4. I was the music & youth director for the First United Methodist church in McKinney, TX were I lead the adult choir. I also create a children’s choir program which was a great success. I was also the substitute organist when needed.

I have been involved with music of all kinds over the last 40 years and am looking forward to carrying on for many more years to come!

This was my first experience with TakeLessons.com and I am completely disappointed with the experience. After many days of anticipation, my very excited daughter and I arrived at the appointed time and place for her first piano lesson which was scheduled for 6:00pm on a Monday at Cheryl's house.

We drove up to a residence with trash scattered over the front porch and a dog barking loudly from inside. After ringing the doorbell, a sleepy young man answered and stared at us as though we were annoying solicitors. I explained that my daughter was scheduled to have her first piano lesson with Cheryl and he simply told us that she was "not home right now".

Surprised by his response, I asked him what time he was expecting her to return. He said he didn't know and suggested that I call her. He went on to explain that he was her son and he could not invite us inside because "the house was a wreck".

Surprised and dissapointed, we left the house and immediately called Cheryl's phone number. She answered and explained that our lesson was scheduled for 8:00pm, not 6:00pm as indicated in the official email from TakeLessons.com. After apologizing many times, she went on to explain that she also no longer gives piano lessons in her home and offered to give my daughter a lesson at another location in 2 hours.

I politely declined her offer and told her I would be initiating a refund for my payment. I hugged my daughter who was clearly disappointed by the whole experience and promised her I would pay a premium fee for a more reputable piano instructor.

She took personal interest in my daughter’s desire to improve her singing, and Tasha went above-and-beyond in coordinating a Christmas caroling opportunity for my daughter . Beginner to intermediate.
Piano is maybe the ideal instrument for a beginning musician. One can develop skills and acquire knowledge of music that can used for the rest of his or her life, and can be transferred to any number of other instruments.
I mostly teach beginner piano (most of my students are 6-10 years old), but I can also help those casual players out there who'd like to tighten up their playing, or maybe improve their sight reading.

About Ray
Born in Arlington, Texas, I began playing guitar and bass guitar in high school. After studying for several years under Joey Faust, I studied Jazz, Classical Guitar, and Music Theory at TCC in Fort Worth. I began teaching in my free time to friends and family in 2003; by 2008 I was teaching full time, my students ranging in age from 3 to over 70. I also play piano, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and auto harp.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe lessons should be fun, so all lessons are tailored to the individual student, based on the student's interests and goals. Students are free to progress at their own pace, and to choose their own learning material. Styles and techniques include Rock, Country, Blues, Bluegrass, Jazz, Shred, Slide Guitar, Classical Guitar, and Slap Bass, to name a few.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in my home stud
io are definitely more beneficial to the student, because I have all my toys here! Besides having all of my other instruments here for demonstrations, or being able to freely change between electric or acoustic guitar for example, I have access to my computer and all of my teaching materials.
I also find that students who are at home (especially the children) tend to be more distracted, whether it's from lack of privacy due to the area chosen for the lessons, or often (again, this goes especially for the kids) there are pets that they like to play with while I'm trying to talk to them.
When they're guests in my home, however, I find I have their strict attention.

*** Specialties ***
I am primarily a guitar player specializing in electric lead guitar and solo acoustic guitar/vocal performance. I also teach beginner to advanced bass guitar, primarily finger-style. In addition I teach slap style bass guitar, as well as slide guitar. I am also a classical mandolin and tenor mandola player. I am currently the director of and first mandolin player for the Fort Worth Mandolin Orchestra.

I started playing recognizable melodies at 18-months old. I have over 40 years of performance experience, and 20 years of teaching experience. I love sharing classical and contemporary tools with those that desire to create and to perform.

About Joel
I started playing recognizable melodies on the piano at 18 months old. At that time I was told that I even had perfect pitch. By age 5, my mother started giving me classical, gospel, and improvisational lessons. I was one of her 50 students until my senior year in high school. Through elementary, junior high, and high school, I received a lot of performance experience from school marching/concert bands, choirs, church choirs, piano concerts, band/choral conducting, and composing.

I received my BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington; through college and to the present, I have received over 25 years of performing/directing experience from overseeing two mega-church music ministries. At these ministries, I served as the department head, responsible for lead piano, directing, arranging, worship leading, and departmen
tal oversight.

I have produced 10 personal instrumental projects, and I have produced and recorded over 40 projects for other local, regional, and international artists. I currently travel with national, jazz, recording saxophonist, Joseph Vincelli, and my personal band Zamar. We have performed with a number of acts from Kirk Franklin, Darren Rahn, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Fred Hammond, and many more.

As an instructor, I have been blessed with an ability to be relatable, relevant, musical, creative, fun, and engaging. I understand the language of music as a performer, and instructor, but most importantly, I value the ability to help the student find their own path of learning the joy of making music vocally and instrumentally. With over 18 years of private teaching experience and 30 years of group experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge on how to be instructive and personal with the young or older beginner, intermediate and even advanced players. Let's grow together musically.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very laid back, although goal-oriented. We have fun while seeing progress. For piano, I typically use the Alfred Series "Alfred Basics 1 - 6" or the Adult All-in-One for the Older Beginner. In the first 3 - 6 months, one will become familiar with basis technics and concepts behind creating music. These concepts will be the foundation behind learning how to read music, play by ear, and create your own songs in any style.

We would move a little faster for the older beginner and work through the Alfred's All in One in conjunction with introducing my 5 steps to performance for any popular style. These steps have been very valuable for those that are wanting to play piano, guitar, bass, or even sing.

For vocalist, I work through Estelle Liebling, Vocal Course, Alfred Piano (as an instrumental reference) and a number of practical performance techniques that I have gained over the years to sing in more of a pop, jazz, gospel setting. We will work on performance techniques and develop the ear to gain confidence to perform in various popular settings. I will also introduce creative ways to make up original music using basic theory and ear training.

Acoustic Piano, Yamaha MOXF8, Roland Fantom, Protools 9, Logic ProX, Midi Keyboards, Bass Mod 5 String Bass, Acoustic and Electric Guitar, and Tama Drum Kit.

For beginners I will get them going on basics as fast as they can thru the 1st 3 or 4 books then we'll decide what to do next - takes a year or so.

For intermediates I specialize in teaching how to play like a pop musician - songwriter - rock band - country band - studio musician - jazz / blues basics....how to read and write chords and chord charts and how to play using chord charts.

About Billy
I teach my students how to understand how music is put together so they can learn even more on their own.

I read, write, and play all styles and I focus on teaching the student fundamentals that work in all styles of music ....AND I get them going on the style they are interested in - pop, rock, country, folk, etc.

I have spent my entire life in the music industry and I can show you how to use what I teach to apply to the real world. I have also been a successful songwriter and I can work with students to learn about song structure and song writing.

I am also good at preparing students for college music classes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to break it down into small steps and accomplish them, then move on to the next.

Each person learns differently and I am good at connecting with how you learn - then we can use a boo
k or CD or not according to your needs.

I have several books to choose from as well as CDs and other tools. BUT .....some things are learned best through 1 on 1 instruction and explanation without a book.

I like to see progress every week and I usually do.

*** Studio Equipment ***

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student needs instrument only to start and discuss from there.
I have many tuners, metronomes, props, books, etc

Having taught music for 9 years full-time, I am geared towards tailoring each lesson to the individual child. That's why I prefer to teach one on one, so that each child can grow in her own or his own innate and unique qualities. Music class should be a challenge, but also something that a child looks forward to doing so that he or she continues to practice and becomes self-motivated. I also teach adults, so if the child continues with lessons for a number of years, I can accommodate his or her increased skill level and continue to provide challenges.

About Diana
Diana Buckholz, B.A., Music, Texas Woman's University, Summa Cum Laude and B.A., Political Science, University of Michigan, Cum Laude, Former Treasurer of Carrollton Music Teachers Association, TMTA, MTNA & Suzuki Member, fine tuned her natural musical talents during her studies at one of the most prestigious arts schools in the United States, Interlochen Arts Academy. While there, she also studied various other genres, such as poetry and dance. Her language experience that she infuses into every Voice lesson comes both from formal education, and from personally being widely travelled. A person of many interests, she is still just a regular gal with activities outside of music devoted to her pets, yoga, domestic errands, and spending time with family.

Diana has experience acting in theatrical and musical productions, as well as commer
cial voice-over work. She has a long history of competitions and Detroit Metro area show choir performances, in the Seaway Chorale for Voices of the Young and Youth Sings, from the elementary to high school years. She competed in Solo and Ensemble Music Festivals, where she won first place medals in Voice and Symphonic Band Performance. Her Instrumental Ensemble competition experience was gained through her past Marching Band and Symphony performances with the Trombone. Her most recent endeavors include solo performances sponsored by Voces Intimae and a Choir Performance at the Lincoln Center (NYC) in April 2015, as well as playing in an ensemble as a jazz pianist at Collin County Community College's Jazz Camp. She also has also dabbled in composition, having created a three movement arrangement while studying at TWU, one movement of which her professor described as "Chopinesque." Always willing for a new adventure, she took up Guitar this year, and now teaches beginners basic chords for students who want to learn fun sing-along music.

She works with students that have developmental and physical disabilities, having been certified in caring for these individuals since at least three decades ago.

My children have been taking piano and voice lessons with Diana for years. Diana makes the lessons fun and exciting for them. She primarily follows the Suzuki method, but teaches the children from a variety of lesson books to incorporate more theory and make them more well rounded in music. They are well prepared for festivals and theory tests. She also encourages more challenging pieces to keep them interested in practice and lessons. We enjoy the recitals that she sets up, usually at a senior living center.

If your looking for a great in home music teacher- look no further. Diana has been teaching my children voice lessons for about a year. She has worked with them on specific songs and the basics of beginning vocal training. Diana takes her job seriously and sets appropriate expectations for girls to meet. Most importantly, she is teaching them an appreciation for music, confidence to use their voice and a foundation for a lifetime love of music.
