I've been teaching violin and string instruments for 10 years and my students have gone on to perform at everything from small recitals to with GDYO to as a member of TMEA All-State Orchestra. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to hold the instrument properly and play 1-2 pieces rote (without reading music), and as time goes on you'll be able to read and write simple melodies that you can also play. I specialize in the Suzuki method, typically use Suzuki and Essential Elements books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: mirror, music stand, straws and other teaching tools. Violinist, Pianist, Teacher and Conductor

I graduated December 2010 from Texas Tech University. I have my Bachelor of Music with a Teacher’s Certification in the area of strings and orchestral studies. My principle instrument is the violin and studied under Dr. John H. Gilbert as a part of my degree. I continued secondary piano studies with Dr. Carla D. Cash at Texas Tech University.

In the Fall of 2010, I completed my degree by doing a full time student teaching at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas. During my time teaching at Martin HS, the orchestra competed in TMEA String Honor Orchestra, where they placed third in the finals. At Texas Tech University, I worked two years as a teacher for the nationwide outreach program, String Project. With String Project, I would teach classes of 15 to 20 students at a time. These classes were forty-five minute violin classes held at the university twice a week. Each student had an additional thirty minute weekly, private lesson. My work, along with 4 other teachers, earned a position to lead two clinics at the annual ASTA convention, held in Atlanta Georgia in 2009.

During the Spring 2011 semester, I spent my week in the Houston area as an orchestra teacher at Fort Settlement Middle School. During my time at Fort Settlement, I ran a program of 164 middle school string musicians on violin, viola, cello, bass and harp. The orchestra ranged from beginner to upper-intermediate levels. I had the opportunity to take 3 of the orchestras to UIL contest. All three groups came back with outstanding awards, including Sweepstakes, the highest award possible.

I am a sought after violinist, pianist, accompanist, teacher, conductor, and adjudicator for several ensembles, musical organizations, and student recitals. I began my musical career at the age of eight playing the piano. I have continued to play and take piano lessons throughout my life. When I entered the sixth grade, at the age of 11, I began my violin studies. These violin and piano studies led to my eventual audition and acceptance at Texas Tech. Though one may think two is enough, I did not. After a year marching in the colorguard in high school, I began lessons on the clarinet at the age of 15 and joined the band. I continued to perform on the clarinet in the marching and concert bands throughout high school and college.

With 6 years of private, group and public teaching, I am a state certified music teacher for early childhood through 12th grade. Since the fall of 2011, I also teach full time as a middle orchestra teacher in Lewisville ISD. I am a current member of TMEA, TODA, TMTA, and ASTA. I have taught a wide range of students and enjoy sharing my passion for music making. As a teacher, I want my students to understand and learn music in many different aspects. Understanding how to read notes and rhythms is important, but combining them with the emotion and sensitivity of music makes playing any instrument fantastic. Music theory and technique are other important aspects of playing all instruments and are stressed in each lesson as well. As students practice and develop their skill and understanding, it is my desire for students to express the music from the depths of their heart.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am generally a very easy to get along with, but I do have high expectations from my students. For beginners, I run my lessons in sections with stretches, detailed warm-ups, repertoire, theory and end with an overview of the lesson and expectations for the next lesson. With my intermediate and advanced students, I expect them to come in already warmed up and prepared. I will have them play through technique exercises with brief reviews and explanations for the next expected exercise. We then go immediately into repertoire where students will "perform" prepared pieces for me. I stop and work on things throughout and then set an expectation for the next lesson for repertoire before ending the lesson.

*Note* I do expect all students to have an instrument to practice on. I highly encourage all beginners to RENT their first instrument from an instrument specialty store and not purchase one from a "department" or "super" store or online. Instrument specialty stores are always available to do repairs and upgrades with very decent prices. Purchased beginner instruments are hard to sell once grown out of. I do have names and numbers for multiple violin and piano shops in the DFW area, as well as a piano tuner.

Students will need to provide all of their own equipment. I will bring any additional books on an as need basis. I will bring my own violin to violin lessons, but students will need to provide their own with accessories.

Hi, my name is Anna. As an orphan, I grew up in Hungary in a foster home. At a very young age I was already exposed to music. It kind of blew me away. I didn't know how something could be so beautiful, and it was like a miracle for me. Then and there, I knew that something special was waiting for me ahead. When I was 3, I didn't talk for a long time, but I did do one thing: sing. At that point my life has totally changed. I began my long journey. My foster parents got me into a music school, called Janos Patzay Music School. I knew immediately what I wanted to be. I built my whole life on music. It always filled up a very special place in my heart, it still does, and it always will. I started to learn the violin when I was 5 years old. Being in a music environment always gave me strength, made me feel safe, and made me stronger as a perso
n. I decided to learn more, and to grow, I must never give up on my dreams. After elementary school, in 1998, I went to Bela Bartok Music High School, and graduated in 2002. I continued studying music at the University of Miskolc Bela Bartok Institute of Music trough 2004-2008. Those four years were some of the best years of my life. In college, I changed my major to viola instead of violin. I am never going to forget the day of my diploma concert (April 27,2008, Sunday). It was wonderful. All the hard work and studying got me here to this point. I had no family being there for me all these years, nothing really, only God and music. Knowing the fact what I wanted kept me going in the hard times. In 2003, I met with a pastor from the United States who were on a mission trip in Hungary, in the orphanage I lived. Nothing can describe it, not even words what we had. I felt like I always knew her. I used to say I was born in a wrong place in a wrong time. After my diploma concert she and her husband adopted me. Today I am able to say that I have a family, a real family with true love. So, I came here to study English (ESL) at the University of Minnesota for a year and a half. Not having time for me to practice and not have music around me for a little over than a year, it made me really sad. I was depressed, and I thought I am going to get crazy. Music was totally cut out from my life. In 2009, I finally had my music back. I was enrolled in Crown College for 2 years. I attended the school's chamber orchestra and quartet, and I also attended other classes as well ( English, drawing, painting, and piano). I have been in different chamber groups through all of my schools (duet, trio, quartet, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra). I also studied how to teach violin ( teaching techniques) for four years in college. I observed teaching methods at the Beni Egressy Music School once every week. In my fourth year of college, I was also teaching little ones, and after my diploma concert I also had to do a diploma teaching.

I am really patient with my students, while helping them master new songs and techniques. I understand that every student learns in a different way that is unique to them, and I will do my best to discover each student's learning style. I do not ask for perfection, but I do drive them to do their best.This is my motto: "Do the best you can", and "Be the best you can be".
I am a classically trained musician, and I believe that it's really important to have a strong foundation of learning the basics: reading notes, rhythms, a little bit of music theory etc. Everything else builds on this, for example, like learning and playing different styles or genres in music. You have to know the basics in order to be able to play them.
In each lesson, I will have assignments for the students to work on throughout the week: 1 song for 30 minute lesson, 1-2 songs for 45 minute lesson, 2-3 songs for an hour lesson, and I will always ask for a specific scale at the beginning of every lesson. How fast or slow we can move forward, and how much we can learn it's really depends on the students. These assignments will be showed first (I'll play it to the student), then we work on them together. I'll make sure they understand what I am showing and telling them before leaving. I will also have technique exercises, and music theory sheets for students.
I take practice very seriously. The amount of time I recommend is varies according to the student's age and skill level.
Students will have a recital once a year. They will show what they have learned through the year. I also encourage students to share their talent in community and school talent shows, at church, at family gatherings, and for friends.
Note: I do have cats in my home. If you or your child has a problem with cat allergies, I can teach in Victoria, give lessons in our church.

The In-Studio lessons are taught in a finished basement which has been converted into a studio. Music stands and seating available.

Anna has a wonderful rapport with our son. This, I'm certain, has greatly improved the quality of the lesson and his willingness to practice. In the very short time (year and a half) that he's been taking violin, he is playing better than many of the longer studied kids in his string orchestra at school, due to the tutelage of Anna.

I was raised in the Suzuki method, trained in it, and I believe in it. It is the most effective school of education for new musicians who want to learn reliably. I've been teaching it 6 years.

I can talk to you for days about the method, but I will sum it up as quickly as i can.

I'm a relaxed person with a strict teaching style. I have two critical expectations for my stud
ents.

1: I expect my students to practice everyday, with time depending on age. (10 minutes a day for 5 year old's, 20 minutes for 10 year old's, etc.) No exceptions. Lessons are a place for me to teach you, not a place to watch you practice.

2: I expect parents to participate in every lesson. You are the teacher 6 days a week, I'm only get to teach them one.

If everyone understands my expectations, students will grow and learn quickly, and have a great time doing it!

I develop a lesson plan depending on each students strengths, weaknesses, talents, and personality. No one student is identical to the next, so none will be taught the same, but everyone will follow a similar pattern.

My daughter has been taking lessons since may and she loves it. Joshua is a great teacher, he us straight forward and will not move her forward unless she has fully learned what he taught her. If your kids need lesson he is your guy. Thanks for being a great teacher.

I've been playing the violin self-taught for about two years because my first experience with a violin teacher went horribly. So after two years I figured I'd try again.
I was on Reverb Lessons for 6 months, and it was a complete nightmare. The most highly rated teacher they provided didn't seem like he was teaching me anything at all. Most of our lesson were music theory, which was helpful, but I would only play the violin the last 5 mins of the two hour lessons. He kept telling me, "i didn't have it in me to be a violinist" and he told me to play piano instead. Well it turned out he didn't even play the violin!
Completely despondent, I was getting angry that I
might not progress in the violin (which I was madly in love with) but dispite my bitterness I decided to try to find a teacher again.

I've only had three lesson with Josh and I can't articulate how much better I've gotten. He's calm and collective, and gives me exactly the advice I need in order to get better. He's an attentive listener, and responds accordingly. I enjoy his lessons; they are the perfect balance of stern and nurturing. I'm excited to see how I progress as the lessons continue, and I'm thankful that I FINALLY found a good violin instructor

In addition, Ruth has performed as Soprano Soloist with the Utah Symphony, Salt Lake Symphony, Utah Valley Symphony and BYU Philharmonic Orchestra. She played 2nd Violin with the Murray Symphony Orchestra in Utah.

Violinist Andrew Paa enjoys a varied career as an educator, performer, and arts advocate. A dedicated teacher, Andrew has worked with students privately and in music schools in South Dakota, Iowa and Ohio. Currently he maintains a private studio. Priviously he has taught at the Hudson and Fairlawn Schools of Music, Firestone High School, and the Western Reserve Institute of Music. His students have achieved a high degree of success, earning college scholarships and assuming leadership roles in their ensembles.

Andrew has performed across the United States and internationally in venues such as Cleveland's Playhouse Square and the Vienna Konzerthaus. Professionally, he performed, for three seasons, in the first violin section of the Sioux City Symphony. He has played with and assumed principle positions with several collegiate ensembles
including the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, the University of South Dakota Symphony, the Kent State University Orchestra and the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra. Dedicated to performing chamber music, he currently plays with and is the manager of the Cuyahoga String Quartet. Additionally, he has founded several ensembles including the Enigma String Quartet, the Rosen String Quartet, and several piano trios.

Andrew earned a MM in Chamber Music and Violin Performance from Kent State University where he studied with Cathy Meng Robinson (Miami String Quartet) and Jung-Min Amy Lee (Assistant Concertmaster with The Cleveland Orchestra). He studied chamber music with members of the Miami String Quartet and the Verve Chamber Players. Prior to Kent, he earned a MM in Violin Performance from the University of South Dakota studying violin with Dr. Eunho Kim and chamber music with members of the Rawlins Piano Trio. He earned his BA in Music from Luther College where he studied with Drs. Virginia Strauss and Jubal Fulks. Additional studies were undertaken with Frederick Halgedahl, Dan Auberbach and Maria Peters.

Andrew is an extremely knowledgeable and talented teacher. He explains technique exceptionally well, has an impressive understanding of phrasing and musicality while playing, and is very patient and understanding, he has a great sense of humor, while also giving students the right amount of push they need. He has high expectations but they are always attainable for his students, and he is very flexible with each students unique needs. I highly recommend him as an instructor, he is worth every penny and students always see quick and impressive improvement; I know I did while I studied with him.

I'm an avid fan of hers and attend the concerts she puts on for her students in winter and spring. She only teaches violin, but she is very knowledgeable of music in general and helped me practice notes and counting on piano. She also taught me how to correctly hold the bow for a cello, when before I thought a cello was just a larger violin.

She raves about her students' progress to me a lot. I find that enthusiasm is contagious and I know her love for teaching positively influences her students--just this year I could hear the improvement many of them made in the months between their winter and spring concerts.

In the beginning of 2016, I created a website and founded a music program called Brighter Future for Kids. My curriculum allows students to experience all spectrums of the music world. My students can perform around the community to raise money for the program so underprivileged children can participate in the classes for free. Students can also participate in building the website and can be featured on the YouTube tutorials. In addition, they have the option of learning Irish fiddling, pop, and jazz music in addition to their classical studies.

About Shaunessy
Shaunessy began playing the violin when she was seven years old and has been studying under Ronald Neal, founder of the Dallas Chamber Orchestra and former student of Ivan Galamian. When in Germany, she studies under Dr. Peter Gries, the director of the Musikacademie in Kassel. At age 11, Shaunessy made her solo debut when performing with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra. Shaunessy has done solo and chamber master classes with Ralph Fielding (Lynn University), Julia Bushkova (University of North Texas), and Arkady Fomin (Dallas Symphony Orchestra). She played in the New Conservatory of Dallas for six years and was the Associate Concertmaster of its top orchestra which performed at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Ms. R attended the North Texas School of Irish Music for two years and has recorded a CD with them. She has been w
ith the Dallas Millennial Orchestra since 2013 and participated in the orchestra tour and CD recordings across the U.S. In the past five years, Shaunessy has attended the Music in the Mountains summer program in Durango, Colorado and the acclaimed Meadowmount School of Music in upstate New York. She has also been a top prize winner at the Dallas Symphonic Festival, Texas MTNA Competition, and Collin County Young Artist Competition. In addition, Shaunessy is the founder of Brighter Future for Kids music program, a community outreach for underprivileged kids for which she provides free instruments, teaches them weekly lessons and organizes recitals for them in the McKinney, TX area. She created a website to provide students with a guide to become a successful violinist. Besides classical music, Shaunessy also likes to explore other genres like Jazz, Pop, and Irish fiddling.
